Beyoncé learned from the greatest live artists when they still were in their primes, studied them and practiced ALOT to get where she is now. That’s one of the reasons beside many imo why the new generation is lacking in this category. They haven’t enough role models.

@@fizzychizzy it’s a difference imo between just reading articles/watching videos about said legends and actually being around during their prime, being able to see them live and go with them on a journey that lasts decades. Artists nowadays don’t have that anymore.

@@kalmanta1824 but is that true…Usher was out here pumping entertainment gold with dancing and vocals and choreography and then picked that little white boy up and what is that white boy doing now? There are live acts that are still very good and still in the place to teach today. What was Chris Brown doing in that back half of the Usher era? It’s really because these artist chose not to put in the same amount of work. Its lack of will (by the artist and the labels) that’s the problem in my opinion.
@damyanthelion2 жыл бұрын
I think lack of recent role models is definitely a contributing factor, especially when so many recent (male) stars seem to have gotten away with just jumping around the stage in lieu of any real stagemanship. Beyoncé, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Aaliyah, Britney and Xtina etc. prioritised craft because there wasn’t really an alternative in Black music when they were coming up. Everyone had to be good at something; if it wasn’t dancing, then it was singing and if it wasn’t either then it was musicianship or re: Hiphop, a megawatt level of charisma to talk to the crowd and sway them with words. Beyoncé et al put a lot of things together to create their respective styles.., And while there are some strong performers on the rise from the new generation I feel a lot of them look solely to Beyoncé for inspiration when what they really need to do is consider her ONE module of MANY when studying the greats💯 As

Bruno Mars is excellent live! He and his band dancing and singing with simple lights and pyrotechnics shouldn’t be so charming for how retro it is, but it works because they sell it well. The reason Michael Jackson's epic performance at Motown 25 is so special is because he did a wholesome Jackson 5 medley with his brothers first and then followed it with an aggressive Billie Jean performance in a room filled with LEGENDS and a TV audience of 50 million people, who still saw him as the adorable ABC kid. That night MJ destroyed that perception and said the crown is mine, FOREVER.

Whenever people dare to call Beyoncé overrated its just makes me chuckle because that woman is a machine when it comes to performances. You will never understand the greatness of Beyoncé truly unless you actually see her live. Every single element you see on her stage is planned carefully. According to one of her interviews she spends 18+ hrs a day rehearsing, working with choreographers , vocal coaches , designers , light technicians just so she could deliver the best experience to her fans and audience. When you go to her concert, you get exactly what you paid for. The production and stage design just awes you and makes your jaw drop, the vocals just mesmerize you, the stage presence, the dancers, her backup singers i could go on. Its like you enter a whole another dimension. So for some people to go online and say shes overrated is just absurd because you dont ever know the amount of work this woman has put in to deliver for her fans.

Taylor Swift doesn’t just work the crowd, she makes it feel like a personal interaction. Everyone is given a bracelet that lights up/changes with the music. It makes you feel like youre part of the music but also makes people sitting in the way back feel seen. At the 1989 tour one of her bits was to bring down this huge hanging mic, get the crowd to sing, live mix the recording into a beat, and then perform with it.

Little Mix are underrated live performers. They don’t get much attention outside Europe but people have flown across the world to see them. No two performances are the same and their vocals are always live and often better than the recording. They do big dance numbers but they also sing ballads and they also do a capella. They truly do it all and command the stage every time. I wish they got more exposure!

Florence + the Machine is incredible live. I saw her a few years ago, and the whole time she’s singing, she’s dancing across the stage and twirling around on her bare feet. The way she dances doesn’t feel choreographed (I don’t think it is honestly), like she just moves to the music and let’s it flow through her. When she preformed at Coachella in 2015, she asked members of the audience to embrace one another, and to wave their hats, their shoes, their shirts in the air. The crowd was so into her performance and sure enough they did. She then took her own shirt off, jumped off the stage, and ran around the crowd singing the rest of the song. It wasn’t until her set ended, that she realized she must have landed on her foot wrong when she jumped off the stage, and turns out she broke it! But she was so into the performance that she didn’t even notice! Her energy and presence just absolutely takes my breath away. I can’t wait for her next tour.

being a part of a collective experience is a vibe. i can't decide if small kinda packed venues are better or like giant ass stadium concerts. i mean, if it's a small venue and everyone is basically a stan and the crowd is like really receptive even to the opener that's such an amazing energy. but at like a stadium show (where my seats are in a different zip code from the artist bc i've had a tragic life so far) there's just so many people and it's a different type of amazing energy.

@@msterrific I’m gonna have to disagree. I don’t know what artists you have seen but most that I’ve seen aren’t just performers, they are artists all around. @marjkc99372 жыл бұрын
The key to being a great performer is the understanding of how music and the visual representation interrelate. Yes the best live performers are artists that are skilled in every aspect most noticeably MJ and Beyonce. but every singer or rapper can put a great show if you realise that you literally just need to look at your skill asset and look where you lack. Your voice is on the weaker side? No problem focus on dancing like Britney. You can't dance neither? Make sure your stage production help create an experience like Taylor. You can't dance? Let your voice shine like Adele or rap like Kanye. But it is true that you have to excel at some kind of skill... it can be like I mentioned dancing, stage production, singing, rapping or even playing some instrument, every genre and crowd has its own ''requirements''.

I'd like to mention how coldplay is probably the best band in this century when it comes to performing... the attention to details, like specific shaped confetti (example: a sky full of stars getting white stars confetti), each song has a certain screen filter or visuals, the four of them make sure to walk all the stages (they have three: A, a runway, B and C that is nearer to seats of the venue/stadium), the xylobands that have different colors depending on the song (the whole stage going all yellow during yellow is magical). I grew up listening to them, but only got to see them for the first time in 2016 and let me tell you, i had spent 5 whole years hating paradise, but that song live is BRILLIANT, the arrangement they did for the a head full of dreams tour was insane, because it was the original version (the synths not being as loud as in the studio version) + tiesto remix + the instruments on top of it, the whole stadium went wild, it felt like you were at a party with thousands of people, ever since then I only listen the live version from that tour and even watch the performance from the live in são paulo in their youtube channel, because it was that impactful for me! They're amazing performers, incredibly talented in their respective instruments, with amazing stage productions and chris is so charismatic and so willing to engage with the crowd for the show (even more when he goes out of his way to hype the crowd in their native languages, instead of english!), i recommend anyone to go to a coldplay concert, it's an amazing experience and just overall wholesome!

I got to see Bey and Jay during the OTR 2 tour and I honestly don't know who can do it the way Beyonce can.... she's truly on a different level. I think Bruno Mars has outstanding stage presence. Lizzo, Doja, Anderson, ChloexHalle are ridiculous live. I think even artists who don't make music to dance to like Adele, Hozier, Sara Bareilles... they don't make music that will cause you to get up and jump and dance but they still know how to engage with the audience whether it'd be through talking to them inbetween songs/telling little stories about how songs were concepted, etc. I think Billie Eilish is great too. I personally am not a fan of Taylor Swift but from what I've seen she puts on one hell of a show. And I might get clowned for this but I think Dua Lipa's stage presence has improved so much from where she was with her first album! I think she is one of the few artists who saw that she was getting clowned for her lack of presence and weaker side of dancing and put in the work to improve and she is way better now! And I haven't been able to see them live yet but I recently got into BTS and they are some of the best live performers I have ever seen. Like before I became a fan I wasn't too sure on if the hype around them was worth it but after watching some concert videos of them my mind was totally changed.
