Beyoncé learned from the greatest live artists when they still were in their primes, studied them and practiced ALOT to get where she is now. That’s one of the reasons beside many imo why the new generation is lacking in this category. They haven’t enough role models.

They have the role models. They just don't care enough to emulate them. Becoming Beyonce takes a lot of practice and hard work and not enough of the newer artist are willing to put in that much effort.

@@fizzychizzy it’s a difference imo between just reading articles/watching videos about said legends and actually being around during their prime, being able to see them live and go with them on a journey that lasts decades. Artists nowadays don’t have that anymore.

@@kalmanta1824 but is that true…Usher was out here pumping entertainment gold with dancing and vocals and choreography and then picked that little white boy up and what is that white boy doing now? There are live acts that are still very good and still in the place to teach today. What was Chris Brown doing in that back half of the Usher era? It’s really because these artist chose not to put in the same amount of work. Its lack of will (by the artist and the labels) that’s the problem in my opinion.

I think lack of recent role models is definitely a contributing factor, especially when so many recent (male) stars seem to have gotten away with just jumping around the stage in lieu of any real stagemanship. Beyoncé, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Aaliyah, Britney and Xtina etc. prioritised craft because there wasn’t really an alternative in Black music when they were coming up. Everyone had to be good at something; if it wasn’t dancing, then it was singing and if it wasn’t either then it was musicianship or re: Hiphop, a megawatt level of charisma to talk to the crowd and sway them with words. Beyoncé et al put a lot of things together to create their respective styles.., And while there are some strong performers on the rise from the new generation I feel a lot of them look solely to Beyoncé for inspiration when what they really need to do is consider her ONE module of MANY when studying the greats💯 As

Bruno Mars is excellent live! He and his band dancing and singing with simple lights and pyrotechnics shouldn’t be so charming for how retro it is, but it works because they sell it well. You get wrapped up in the vibe whether you’re 8 years old or 70 years old, and that’s what he’s all about as a student of popular music

Seeing Beyonce live was life changing. I spent like 10 years watching her in DVDs and when I saw that 5'7 woman come up on stage with fireworks, that bass on the speakers was like 🤯. As a performer myself, I never even thought that a human being could be that agressive and relatable at the same time. The vocals, the tenderness and you can see the effort she puts in every detail. That was the best day of my life.

The reason Michael Jackson's epic performance at Motown 25 is so special is because he did a wholesome Jackson 5 medley with his brothers first and then followed it with an aggressive Billie Jean performance in a room filled with LEGENDS and a TV audience of 50 million people, who still saw him as the adorable ABC kid. That night MJ destroyed that perception and said the crown is mine, FOREVER.

Rina Sawayama is an amazing performer, saw her when she only had her EP and a few singles out and she already had costume changes and backup dancers with full choreography. She made these tiny venues feel like a stadium with her presence. Now that her debut album is out and her growing fan base lets her play larger venues, I’m 100% sure she’ll deliver on giving a great performance. Definitely a legend in the making.

Whenever people dare to call Beyoncé overrated its just makes me chuckle because that woman is a machine when it comes to performances. You will never understand the greatness of Beyoncé truly unless you actually see her live. Every single element you see on her stage is planned carefully. According to one of her interviews she spends 18+ hrs a day rehearsing, working with choreographers , vocal coaches , designers , light technicians just so she could deliver the best experience to her fans and audience. When you go to her concert, you get exactly what you paid for. The production and stage design just awes you and makes your jaw drop, the vocals just mesmerize you, the stage presence, the dancers, her backup singers i could go on. Its like you enter a whole another dimension. So for some people to go online and say shes overrated is just absurd because you dont ever know the amount of work this woman has put in to deliver for her fans.

Taylor Swift doesn’t just work the crowd, she makes it feel like a personal interaction. Everyone is given a bracelet that lights up/changes with the music. It makes you feel like youre part of the music but also makes people sitting in the way back feel seen. At the 1989 tour one of her bits was to bring down this huge hanging mic, get the crowd to sing, live mix the recording into a beat, and then perform with it.

Tyler is so hype, funny and interactive with fans during shows, his stage settings are detailed/niche, & he truly puts ALL his energy into the songs. There was never a dull moment watching him.

All with fire, uncomfortable vocals, out of the ordinary backup dancers, and busting some sick moves in the process. Florence + the Machine is incredible live. I saw her a few years ago, and the whole time she’s singing, she’s dancing across the stage and twirling around on her bare feet. The way she dances doesn’t feel choreographed (I don’t think it is honestly), like she just moves to the music and let’s it flow through her. When she preformed at Coachella in 2015, she asked members of the audience to embrace one another, and to wave their hats, their shoes, their shirts in the air. The crowd was so into her performance and sure enough they did. She then took her own shirt off, jumped off the stage, and ran around the crowd singing the rest of the song. It wasn’t until her set ended, that she realized she must have landed on her foot wrong when she jumped off the stage, and turns out she broke it! But she was so into the performance that she didn’t even notice! Her energy and presence just absolutely takes my breath away. I can’t wait for her next tour.

The key to being a great performer is the understanding of how music and the visual representation interrelate. Yes the best live performers are artists that are skilled in every aspect most noticeably MJ and Beyonce. but every singer or rapper can put a great show if you realise that you literally just need to look at your skill asset and look where you lack. Your voice is on the weaker side? No problem focus on dancing like Britney. You can't dance neither? Make sure your stage production help create an experience like Taylor. You can't dance? Let your voice shine like Adele or rap like Kanye. But it is true that you have to excel at some kind of skill... it can be like I mentioned dancing, stage production, singing, rapping or even playing some instrument, every genre and crowd has its own ''requirements''.

My favorite Concerts that I've been to include Green Day, Foreigner, Eddie Money, Taylor Swift, several local acts (Group Therapy, Kootz Band), cover bands of band/singers I love. Edited today to include Billy Joel. He was amazing when I saw him yesterday

I'd like to mention how coldplay is probably the best band in this century when it comes to performing... the attention to details, like specific shaped confetti (example: a sky full of stars getting white stars confetti), each song has a certain screen filter or visuals, the four of them make sure to walk all the stages (they have three: A, a runway, B and C that is nearer to seats of the venue/stadium), the xylobands that have different colors depending on the song (the whole stage going all yellow during yellow is magical). I grew up listening to them, but only got to see them for the first time in 2016 and let me tell you, i had spent 5 whole years hating paradise, but that song live is BRILLIANT, the arrangement they did for the a head full of dreams tour was insane, because it was the original version (the synths not being as loud as in the studio version) + tiesto remix + the instruments on top of it, the whole stadium went wild, it felt like you were at a party with thousands of people, ever since then I only listen the live version from that tour and even watch the performance from the live in são paulo in their youtube channel, because it was that impactful for me! They're amazing performers, incredibly talented in their respective instruments, with amazing stage productions and chris is so charismatic and so willing to engage with the crowd for the show (even more when he goes out of his way to hype the crowd in their native languages, instead of english!), i recommend anyone to go to a coldplay concert, it's an amazing experience and just overall wholesome!

I saw Sza last year and the feeling was just amazing. The Ctrl album has been such a huge part of my life and has been in my rotation since it came out. Getting to see it live was everything and more. It was my first concert in forever and was in the new city that I never went to before. I also tried sn edible for the first time ever and I felt like just Sza and I were at the concert. I also love any of Beyoncé live performance and particularly love Kanye’s performance of his albums.

I didn’t get to see her perform live, but from the little videos I saw of fka twig’s Magdalene tour, it looked absolutely incredible. That album is already a piece of art, and the added theatrics and costumes and choreography that went into it only elevated it even more

I re-watched the reputation stadium tour live performance on netflix just yesterday. Taylor Swift really doesn't get enough credit for her stage presence. There's also a couple videos online of malfunctions, and the way she gets people hyped by singing an acoustic version of her songs with no instrumentals at all while being stuck suspended above the crowd is crazy. Critics said that tour would flop, but it ende up being the highest ever grossing tour in the US and North America. She doesn't tour like that anymore, due to family reasons, but damn, I wish I could see that live

The reputation tour was just a few years ago, so it's a bit too soon to really think she doesn't tour like that anymore, imo! I feel that she will but that the Lover Fest setup was definitely for family reasons, as you said. Maybe for some experimentation, too. But yeah, with the pandemic having stalled things right at the beginning of this new stage, we really don't have a lot of info on what she'll do next. It's pretty exciting but also a bit nerve-wracking lol!

I got free tickets to an Adele concert, I'm not a fan and only knew her radio stuff, but her circular stage setup, presence, singing ability, and crowd interaction had me tearing up with emotion towards the end of the concert. I've been to lots of concerts and hers might be the best, even better than artists whose work I truly I love.

Michael Jackson has to be one the best if not the best live performer in history because of how he didn't even need special effects, background dancers and all this hectic stuff to make an elaborate show, just his voice and his dance moves but also so many other performers ngl

Bruce Springsteen performed for 3 hours non stop when I saw him live in Australia and this was when he was 60 years old. He didn’t miss a beat. Genuinely one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen.

Would highly recommend checking out the clips of Jacob Collier's Toronto Concert from a few years ago, he literally controls the crowd's voices to make a new piece of vocal music live. Also the raw childish joy that his energy brings when he's running between instruments is just so fun to watch I can't wait to see it live this year

Hayley Williams is one of the best live performers of all time. Paramore as a whole is phenomenal, but the presence she has and the way she commands a crowd is just insane, and then she delivers vocal performances that are often better than the studio versions on top of it. Watch let the flames begin at BBC radio 1 big weekend 2013 and tell me how this woman can deliver one of the most chilling performances lying on her back on the stage.

A really good perfomances that I really love are from a japanese band called One Ok Rock. The maist vocalist(Taka) is really insane with his raspy but clean and emotional voice(specially the high notes with this raspy quality). Also, the drummer and the bass just go insane(literally a camera is focusing on the drummer, and you see his passion and love for the music). They also make orchestra version of their song, I'm only going to say that it's epic and they make their music mor epic in a live space.

You do know beyonce gets it all from Micheal jackson right. The fireworks, some outfits even the dance moves are inspired. Except its not half as good . They don't call him the greatest performer for no reason. You should see his performances and not just the biggest ones, you'll realise not only how untouchable he is as a performer and live singer but just about how every performer steals from him in some way. The gun on stage, prince playing as a shadow behind a curtain, beyonce. Its all from michael. The dude literally once flew a jet pack and a tank of stage.

I got to see Bey and Jay during the OTR 2 tour and I honestly don't know who can do it the way Beyonce can.... she's truly on a different level. I think Bruno Mars has outstanding stage presence. Lizzo, Doja, Anderson, ChloexHalle are ridiculous live. I think even artists who don't make music to dance to like Adele, Hozier, Sara Bareilles... they don't make music that will cause you to get up and jump and dance but they still know how to engage with the audience whether it'd be through talking to them inbetween songs/telling little stories about how songs were concepted, etc. I think Billie Eilish is great too. I personally am not a fan of Taylor Swift but from what I've seen she puts on one hell of a show. And I might get clowned for this but I think Dua Lipa's stage presence has improved so much from where she was with her first album! I think she is one of the few artists who saw that she was getting clowned for her lack of presence and weaker side of dancing and put in the work to improve and she is way better now! And I haven't been able to see them live yet but I recently got into BTS and they are some of the best live performers I have ever seen. Like before I became a fan I wasn't too sure on if the hype around them was worth it but after watching some concert videos of them my mind was totally changed. They're performers through and through. There's a lot of great live performers in the kpop genre in general. Kpop, K-R&B, K-indie,

I haven't been able to see BTS live yet but I have seen them perform for their online concerts a couple of times and I don't even have the words to describe how good they are, it was like I was their at the concert in person. I could never get bored of their performances, and there's this feeling of having to go to all the tour stops because they're that good. Legit woke up at 4am so I could watch some of their online concerts and have never been disappointed!! People travel across the world just to see their concerts.
