Clicked on this just to actually know how you're supposed to pronounce "Tsojcanth"

@welovettrpgs Good to know I guessed right and have been pronouncing it correctly since 1983!
@eskipotato3 ай бұрын
@@welovettrpgs in that case, it should be more like soy-cont, with the 'j' being pronounced as a 'y' like in Hungarian or Polish, while the 'th' is just 't' as in Hungarian.

@@welovettrpgs There's no slavic language that works like that; they tend to be extremely straightforward in pronunciation - every grapheme is a sound, and it's usually the same sound. There's no doubles, few digraphs, no silent letters, and very little ambiguity. Tsojcanth is a made-up word pronounced in a made-up way, so it doesn't really matter, but the way it's written is _very_ English; nothing like how it would be transcribed in any Eastern European language. The "th"-sound, /θ/, doesn't even occur in any such language.

@@welovettrpgs English words are "based on" Old Norse and Old English, but you don't see us talking like vikings. English is full of French words that are pronounced *nothing* like the French versions. Sometimes languages don't sound like other languages. Sometimes it's ok for a made-up language to be pronounced in a made-up way. Gary Gygax was no linguist, and AFAIK never released an official pronunciation. I'm looking at the original tournament version right now and there's nothing about pronunciation.

This has been the best video in a long time. I miss Chris talking to Todd about the joy and the lore of older play. I had the same reaction as he describes when I first read the original module. (I'm old)

Todd, like your interviews. Rewatching Heroes of the Vale in a couple of weeks.

The original adventure also had a full wilderness before you got to the cavern on your way there. It sounds like they did something like that.

I love how they just casually spoil a major twist in Wild Beyond the Witchlight.

@@DoinItforNewCommTech And it takes some groups years to finish a campaign. It's odd that WotC are throwing major spoilers for many of their campaigns. For example, hope no one was playing Curse of Strahd because there's major spoilers randomly in the new PHB.

I seem to recall the Behir being in the greater dungeons? from what he said the Behir should be at the beginning??? am I wrong?
@mathhelpwithprof.yenerall64073 ай бұрын
Your memory is totally correct. Mr Perkins statement toward the end about the alphabetical order is way off. While there are V and X monsters in the final room, the very first encounter in the lesser caverns is with Stirges (hardly letter A!) and there is a dracolisk very close to the end of the greater caverns roster… not sure if Chris is thinking of another dungeon or what..?

This adventure was released for free, you can print it out from D&D Beyond and put it in a 3-ring binder just like they did in the 70s

I never liked this adventure. I remember it as just one monster fight after another with no let up. As one who owns all the originals in this anthology I’d list this as the weakest of the lot. That being said I’m sure there are a lot of ‘optimisers’ who will relish the challenge.
@bukharagunboat84663 ай бұрын
Sorry, but in my opinion this was a truly terrible module. Basically just a zoo of what were at the time new monsters, all of them forgettable. The poetic "clues" barely reach McGonagal standard and the "story" is a predictable dungeon crawl.
