This was my childhood - I was deeply involved in the shows - via both imagination and the fact that my Father worked on DrWho and Out of the Unknown. Indeed, I was almost in Out of the Unknown myself - but my heart wasn't loud enough so a special effect had to be used instead. I very clearly remember the Gun scene from "out', and the 'Out' robots in "who' but I never knew about the telephone door. Later, I worked at BBC Enterprises myself and edited the Mind Robber Ents release. I remembered the white horse from TX so well that i convinced the producer to let me use the full outro shots and the full intro shots of it - as they were different, the original plan was to lose one of them for tightness... but, my argument - that I remembered it so other fans would too - won the day. Great to se it in this video too. VERY well done. I love it.

Ive been on a long search for the last 15 years for a short film shown on BBC2 in the last 80s and the 'Out of the Unknown' section reminded me to make a comment here in the hope someone knows what it is I am looking for! It was a short film, in BnW set on an island. There was a child who lived on a submarine (which looked a bit like the Nautilus from the Disney version of 20,000 LUTS). The child is friends with a Chewbacca looking type guy and a teenage pirate. They are on a quest to free the childs mother, who doesn't remember she has a son.

Fascinating. So Nation didn't own the props for ego or kitch reasons. There was a real money aspect. And that explains why he kept hiring them out for public events, to recoup some of his cost. It still boggles the mind why the BBC didn't buy the rights along with the original Dalek script.
@Sol-Cutta4 ай бұрын
Because they didn't realise they would be anything bigger or more popular than Any number of their other 'monsters' and in house creations. I should imagine that's the reason ? I find it hilarious that tony Hancock and Terry were friends and he used to go and sleep (without sleeping much) round Tony's and it was here he fleshed out his daleks with the help of tony Hancock who no doubt suggested the plunger ends and eye stalk...definitely nation who suggested upside down shuttlecock which Hancock found hilarious.

Thanks for your help, as it stands I was more interested in seeing the Daleks themselves and how they were worked into the act rather than the actors in blackface more than anything else. I have seen, thanks to KZbin, a few of the other acts that they did for their little show and while I am not racist I must admit to having a morbid fascination with such media (eg 'Tintin in the Congo') granted I may be somewhat desentised due to my repeated viewings of old films plus the fact it is seen as taboo does often draw me too that kind of media, but the historical context of the times it was made in has always interested me greatly plus the kind of thinking on the part of the original audiences of any era of which my interests would have been presented to interests me as well as I feel that understanding such things helps me enjoy old media a lot better. I would recommend such thinking to anyone who wants to lets say, watch an old horror film on its own merrits rather than see it as 'old rubbish'. Happy Times and Places!

Yes there was a brief 'crossover' period where Dalek One had a silver eye in The Chase. It was eventually painted black.

I will do but do you know of the Dalek in the Spike Milligan sketch .
@Dalek63885 жыл бұрын
Yes. It’s covered in one of the other videos. It’s Dalek Seven-2 and was the last time the skirt featured on TV as far as we know.

Thanks for that..

Given Sara Kingdom's death in her only serial, that show would have presumably been a prequel, which is pretty bad-arse.

Well compare it with Dixon of Dock Green. The eponymous character first appeared in The Blue Lamp. By the end of the film he was dead!

Unfortunately it is not in the background, it tramples over the dialog, spoiling this video.
