Fascinating video. To be able to identify each of 19 Daleks takes some doing. That level of individualism is why 63-88 Daleks are THE true Daleks.

@beef business Individualism goes against everything Fascsim, what Daleks are an allegory for, is about. Uniformity and supreme loyalty to the cause without question is what it means to be Dalek. There may be special castes and groups, such as the Recon Scouts and the Cult of Skaro, but they're the exception, not the Rule. Even then, Cult of Skaro leader, Dalek Sec, and the Recon Scout clones from Revolution of the Daleks were all Exterminated for their impurity.

When I was a child, I remember the nursery school that I attended having a Dalek. I remember it being solidly built, you could get inside, you could also move the gun/arms from the inside and it stood by the back door. This would have been around 1970 and I was only about 2 then. So my memories may not quite match reality. The nursery school is still there in Cookham Rise, Berkshire. I am not sure about the Dalek, but Pinewood Studios is only about 11 miles away.

Completely normal for interviewees on UK TV up until about the 1980s. It's gone so far the other way now that even in drama scenes set in, for example, a pre-1980s cinema there may not be a single smoker. For anyone who remembers the fug being so thick that you could see the projector beam, this is completely unrealistic.

I saw Terry Nation in Maidstone Library in the mid seventies with two Daleks one of which was red. I think he was awarding a prize to the winner of a children's competition of some sort. Ottakars Bookshop in Milton Keynes owned a black Dalek that looked like it was from one of the films. This shop later became Waterstone's and they must have sold the Dalek because it seemed to disappear in 2018.
@Dalek63885 жыл бұрын
Thats a great story thank you! If one of the Daleks was fully red that would place it before 1973 as that was when it was painted black to become the Supreme Dalek. Wow! This really has opened my eyes to some information that I never knew before. I always thought that the Supreme Dalek seen in 'Planet of the Daleks' was simply the Gold coloured Dalek seen in the 1966 movie with a torch put on the end of it's Eye Stork plus a sink plunger put in place of it's Claw (in order to stay in keeping with continuity with the rest of the Daleks in the show) and that was that. But, this, wow.... The 1965 stage play (or rather the 2009 Big Finish audio version) entitled 'The Curse of the Daleks' has always been one of my em 'guilty' pleasures (if you've heard the CD or maybe read the script you'll know what I mean...) and it was interesting to find out the connection between the movies and the stage show. Also thank you for clearing up the mystery regarding the odd looking Dalek that was used in the photo shoot with Jill Curzon, of which made me wonder ever since I was old enough to stop looking at Jill and to pay attention to more important things, such as the toy Dalek that she was shown holding in a few shots (I used to own one of the reissues but sadly I lost it in a fire at a storage depo where it was being kept while I was moving house, along with a large number of other items) and yes, the odd looking Claw that the Dalek sports in the photos. Just wondering, will you be covering the history of the Dalek seen in the 1970s Katy Manning photo shoot, I know that not all of the shots show her alongside the Dalek and the images are somewhat NSFW (if you get what I mean) but I would like to know a little more about it, particularly with regards to how it was decided to show the Dalek with it's eye removed from it's Eyestork, most likely this was probably meant to be a very obvious joke but I'm sure that there's a story behind it anyway. Just wondering, I know that you have already done a (very good) video cover some of the production aspects of 'The Chase' but it is still a confirmed fact whether or not if the larger sized Daleks seen inside the DARDIS were indeed Movie style Daleks, only with the bases removed? Thank you for uploading, and yes I have subscribed to your channel as well.

@@Dalek6388 it is like they inadvertently came up with the same look that "miniaturizing" video/filter achieves. Thanks for the fascinating video. On a side note, I am always peeved that the Daleks seem so flimsy. When I was younger, I thought they were made of a highly damage resistant material, "Dalekanium" or something like that, only to see their tops or pieces just fly off without much effort. Oh, well. An English friend of mine from college remembers the "Dalek Invasion" very well and she said she was "absolutely terrified", but she said it with a big smile and such delightful glee. She thought Jon Pertwee was the definitive Dr. Who. I would have to say Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee and David Tennant are the top three. It was quite a fun series to watch.

@@Dalek6388 we live in hope! 😂 There is, after all, a first time for everything. These videos remind me, slightly nostalgically, of the little videos they ran before each episode of Planet of the Daleks in 93..... But with a lot greater care and attention. Love em. And I didn't stop it 7 minutes in!!

I live in Mansfield and there was until recently a shop called Who's Toys which had a gold dalek in the front window, the owner claimed that it was an original model. The shop has since closed and the prop removed.

If it’s the one I think it is then it was just a nice fan built prop

@@Dalek6388 that's what I thought but the owner was insistant. Even put a sign on it. No idea where it went or where the owner is now.

Hmm. That happens quite a lot I’m afraid. There is a bookshop in London that believe they have one too. But again it’s just a fan built one.

We also had a black Dalek in our Waterstone's in Norwich, probably a fan one, which looked similar to the 2150 black Dalek. It had silver orbs and it's eyestalk got broken off some years ago. Last time I visited (this year) the Dalek had gone.

Waterstones bought a number of Replicas from ‘This Planet Earth’. They were in quite a number of their stores around the country.

One detail I've never understood is why there are a pair of Vickers Vimy engine nacelles just outside the hut (at 14:16 in this video). Anyone?
