Loved the video, it's awesome to see someone talk about this game! Me and my friend actually used to play the local co-op mode together all the time, since he didn't have a PSP to play Freedom unite with. I don't recall if monsters gained any new moves or changed their behavior much however, I think it was mostly just swapping between targets randomly. The second player would always start directly behind the monster, so they could get some early damage on the tail in very easily. One strange detail I do remember is that despite the congalala not using any actual fart attacks, at the beginning of the hunt, he would always fart on the player behind him. It was purely visual and did no damage, but as kids we found it hilarious and would always play rock paper scissors to see who had to get farted on while hunting him.

The mechanics of this game seem like a crazy good setup for an arcade game. Allow players to save their progress with a NESiCA card like SFV, provide preset loadouts for guests like in the demos, perhaps allow for connectivity with a second cabinet for co-op... The flashing callouts and leaderboard incentives are already there. With controls that simple, yet hard to master, it doesn't feel like much would need to be done to really make a really engaging experience on a larger scale.

Something you need to keep in mind is that all Japanese mobile games are optimized for metro travel. So it only requiring one hand to play isn't that surprising.
@play-mek124511 ай бұрын
the game technically still requires you to use two hands as you have to hold the phone with one and play with the other (the fact you have to use two fingers with the playing hand means you can't hold it with that one), I think it really just has very outdated controls 😅😅

I have always been curious about the various mobile Monster Hunter games. And I absolutely love that you played this game so completely in order to document it completely. Documenting games like this that would otherwise be lost is so incredibly important. It's stuff like this that makes you easily my favorite Monster Hunter channel on KZbin. Thanks for a great 2 hours. Also it bothers me deeply that the game has you roll away from tail-swipes, when usually in the main games that's a great way to still be in the hitbox when your i-frames end...

I think my two critiques about MH Now is that 1), the potions we have now should be some sort of revival item, and then have a set amount a potions for each hunt to encourage more liberal use of them (my armor is under-leveled, so I use potions for revival rather than healing), and that you get more of individual drops, (unless I'm misremembering it feels like I still get 1 of each rarity 1 item even at higher difficulties) but more overall drops would be nice too (i.e. 6 total drops instead of 4 + break parts)

I remember playing this on ios back in the day ! And I do remember playing the local coop with friends. I am very certain that both players were in the same instance and you could see each other running around and fighting the monster. I vividly remember strategizing with my friend on when to use the chance down so we could both use the barrage attacks when the monster was squirming. Unlocked memory !

Thank you for such an amazing and thorough dissection of Dynamic Hunting! It's clear you put a lot of time and effort researching this, and I'm glad you were able to have fun with the game. I thought the personal narrative about trying to S Rank every hunt and get all the armor/weapons/achievements was great. It really captured why people get so sucked into MH games. Your video paints a picture of Dynamic Hunting that you can't get just by scrolling through the wiki or reading some old forum posts, and that's super cool!

It’s kinda sad how no one likes stories, because some mechanics and things from this game appear in those games as well, like the ranking system and how simplified the monsters look, with how bright and recognisable they are while still having detail. Seeing you play this game makes me feel like I'm back in 2013. This wa smy first MH game and it also reminded me how back then, despite some exceptions, mobile games were used to be more like mindless but fun distractuions to waste some time. Nowadays though, it feels like more mobile games are demanding more of your time and in some cases, punishing you for doing so. This also reminds me how back then there were more infinity blade clones compared to now, in which there are more Raid clones, and I can't help but prefer the former lol
