Used to always keep a length of duct tape wrapped around upper part of my paddle or some other cylindrical piece of kit for temporary patches. Also used a "Green Leaf" (old sweet shaped like a leaf, green and sugar-coated) to plug a hole in my canoe up on the Margaree. Livin' the dream lads...thanks for sharin' it.

I’m a Nova Scotian living in Denmark. I paddled a lot of NS back in the 80’s and 90’s. Still have a fishing camp on the St. Mary’s (if the salmon ever come back) and a vintage Chestnut Prospector. Years ago I paddled with Bill Mason’s son, Paul and daughter, Becky) (Path of the Paddle). Paul considered Nova Scotia’s rivers as some of the most technical in Canada (Narrow and boulders everywhere). Love the poling. We poled a fair bit and my ex use to teach poling clinics on the St. Mary’s. Love seeing old skills still being used. Your trip is bringing back lots of great memories. Thanks and “tight lines”.

Great video coverage of a great adventure! I'm not sure I can relate to paddling wind & waves at a 45 degree (18:00). Wouldn't it be near impossible to keep a straight line - especially solo - with the wind constantly pushing your front end? I always find it necessary to 'split' the wind head on or my boat is going sideways in no time. If the waves are bad enough to come over the bow then I'm off the water, period. Anyway, thanks for sharing the trip!
@NorthernScavenger4 жыл бұрын
You're right Paul, as a solo paddler it would be tough, though a tighter angle would help and possibly be less work than paddling directly into head winds - similar to tacking a sailboat or switch-backs up a mountain. Though, sometimes all attempts are futile if the wind is too strong!
