The lost station of Myrene

The lost station of Myrene was built in the 1930s by Hellenic State Raiways and Hellenic Army as starting point of Amfipolis branch line. This 24km used for special military transfers conenting the port of Amfipolis at eastern coast of Chalkidiki with the Grecobulgarian borders around Serres. Myrene is the junction point on the 93km of Thessaloniki-Alexandroupolis main corridor. Since early 2000s, the stations is abandoned as a new section was constructed during improvements. Not far from the old station of Myrene is Aggites river. The line passes from the norrowest point of the river, which creates a breathtaking gorge.
In the video we follow and AEG Dmu on 600A and IC91 trains, running between Thessaloniki and Drama.

Very nice video, congratulations. This is a very scenic line. When I was on holiday in Greece, I was also looking this place around Alistrati cave to make a video, so it was familiar to me without reading the notes. But finally I decided to film at Nestos valley. You can see the result on my channel if you like to. :) Unfortunately there was only 4 trains a day, and I had no time to find a better view, and go back for another shot. It would be a nice view from a drone above the river and follow the train through the tunnels. The curves are ideal for this. How many days have you spent on this video? And is that a cotton field near the station? I saw freight cars at Fotolivos station with cotton remainders, so I guess cotton is transported by train, partially at least.

All scenes were filmed on the same day. There are no passenger service between Drama and Alexandroupolis so Nestos valley is currently with no trains. Today, you can film 4 trains at Thessaloniki-Drama section, 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening. Here you see the morning services, one to Drama and then returns back to Thessaloniki. No agricultural product is transported by train anymore. Cotton is being loaded on trucks.
