12:01 The King of SubCon is probably not named “Osama”, I would have to see it written out in the original Japanese documentation, but “Ou-sama” (王様) means “King” in Japanese (literally: “Mr. King”, but I am not able to describe the nuances of the “-sama” suffix in a timely manner, so for the purpose of brevity I will leave it as “king”). So rather than giving him a name, it seems that in the original Japanese narrative the King of SubCon is just being called “The King” with no further specification.

Have you heard the fan theory about how SMB1 is the only one that actually happened? Part 1 where Mario and Luigi enter the Mushroom Kingdom and and the day actually happened. And then part 2 is just a dream. Part 3 is actually a stage play based on the events of SMB1 as evidenced by the curtains and a lot of the platforms looking like they're bolted to the background like it's a set. Then the rest of games are just re-tellings of the same story (since they generally have the same plot) where all of the details just keep getting blown more and more out of proportion. Also, I love SMB2.

that's not a fan theory, that's called fan fiction lol there's no story or plot beyond "mario saves the princess" until Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy, and even then the point of the game is the mechanics, so they don't put much effort into any kind of story.

Maybe its just me but SMB2 felt like a more natural step in term of the series evolution than the orignal/lost levels to SMB3. That game just felt like SMB 2.0.

The real SMB2 was pretty much an expansion pack rather then a true sequel, but to call the western SMB2 a "more natural step in term of the series evolution" is ridiculous. How is it in any way a natural step? It's a completely different game that doesn't resemble the original in any way. SMB3 and SMW were natural steps forward in the evolution of the series, western SMB2 was a complete deviation.

@@JMFSpike Sure the gameplay was different but back then we were used to sequels being completely different than the previous game. Some of the mechanics from SMB2 were used in later games such as grabbing and throwing or riding on enemies, which would evolve to riding Yoshi. Also SMB2 USA kind of established that Mario quirkiness even more so than the original and Lost Levels.

Rather than just steps I think of 1 and 2 (usa) as parents. Their children resemble them both in different ways. Just like Zelda one and two, in regards to later entries.

My favorite bits of trivia are Dream Factory Doki Doki Panic was built on top of the shelved Super Mario Bros 2 engine, was created by the same team that made SMB1 and converted to Super Mario USA by still the same team, making it a real Super Mario Bros sequel no matter how you look at it- it just took a roundabout route. :)

Doki Doki Panic itself started life as a prototype for a Mario game, by the same team. The prototype ended up getting shelved, and revived as Doki Doki Panic. So when it was converted into a Mario game it went full circle.

Agreed, Tetris 99 and Mario 35... i really miss Mario 35. They could turn so much into the same kind of online/ battle royal type of game to make our favorite old games more fun to play again... if they really wanted to. Its a little sad to see how much effort they went through back then in this super niche market ( considering the times/ local) and they neglect it in our overly abundant online presence in modern times.

I wouldn't be surprised if there actually was a project to emulate BS Mario USA, much like how there was a large project to emulate BS Zelda and Ancient Stone Tablets. It would probably require heavy use of MSU-1.

Correction @ 2:46 super mario bros 2 that was originally doki doki panic, was always meant to be a mario game. The reason doki doki panic was made is the yume kojo festival 87 that was sponsored by Fuji TV and at the time super mario bros 2 was in development Fuji TV went to nintendo and pitched a game based on yume kojo festival using the mascot Majin, Lina , papa and mama as the main characters. It was at this time a prototype was already made for super mario bros 2 that miyamoto's team made after shelfing it reuse it and reskin it to doki doki panic. Doki doki panic was released before the yume kojo 87 festival started. Meanwhile nintendo of America was trying to find its footing in us video game market, they need another hit a game changer for the us gaming market. It was suggested by Minour Arakawa to reskin doki doki panic back into a mario. Now some of the prototype elements from SMB2 did make its way into doki doki panic such as The lamp Early version of phanto And the fast moving water fall animation

I think one of the big things that would make localizing this particular one tough is how Birdo in the SoundLink audio has a portrayal that, well, probably would not be considered kid-friendly or acceptable in the current day. And a major character needing that much rewriting would certainly be a feat.

In theory? The most difficult part of that is identifying some short jingles that may be original and several licensed tracks. The voice acting would also need to be able to land jokes in a way that was not necessary for BSZ.

Super Mario Bros. 2 is probably one of my favorites alongside SMB1, SMB3, SMW and NSMB..seems that the Japanese SMB2 is added on Super Mario All-Stars as Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels.. Given you're ability to uncover lost gaming media, I would like to know if there is any hope of finding more information on the SNES version of FFVII before they moved on to the PS1. Or anything regarding earlier versions of the game as there were many. Another good video topic is the 4th disc of the international version of FFVII.

@@paxhumana2015 not exactly. FFVII started development as an SNES game in 1994. Development was halted so that the developers could work on Chrono Trigger. Once that was finished, the next generation of consoles was underway and they decided to go with the PlayStation with a whole new set of ideas.

You should get something for that cough. :P The Last of Us Part I actually has quite a lot of changes to it. The accessibility features alone, has dozens of additions to it. Which is always a good thing. The mostly just kept the voice over and mocap data, and rebuilt most everything else. I'm still going to wait for a sale, but I think it's very much a worthwhile remake.

Well these day’s there is a way to extract those mixed live voices from the vhs recording using advanced ai sound saperation algorithm,clean them up and store them as sound files wirh that game,so eventrough those original source samples are lost for good,BUt we should thank those people who actually had recorded those live events in the first place am mean who had ever tout that??? Am glad those video recordings are put online so we can remaster those grainy blurry tapes and extract those stuff as well🙏👍
