Visiting Shipley Glen in Bradford, the site of many Victorian Attractions amongst its long history.
In this episode we are looking for the two main attractions located on the glen, the Aerial Flight ride, and the famous Toboggan Rollercoaster that closed after an accident in 1900.

My bet is the iron anchors at the start are held in with lead. They would drill a hole drop in the anchor hen pour molten lead in the hole to fill any gaps, Great video 2x👍

There were definitely other Aerial Flights at Southport, Crystal Palace, Cardiff, and Munich, and claims of a few more too, including Berlin and Vienna. Stansfield himself went off to look for gold in Alaska in 1898 and wasn't heard from again after that.

Great video Darren. Really enjoyed these. As a direct result of the Part 1 video a couple of weeks ago I took a walk from East Morton, on the canal to Roberts Park in Saltaire and had a little ride on the tram, for the first time in probably 30-35 years. Brought back a few memories from being a kid. I had no knowledge of the rides mentioned in this one, so will definitely be heading back to the locations on this video for a mooch around!

Played on them myself as a kid. I used to live in Eldwick, just in view on the aerial shots and used to help out with the Glen Tramway. The old dodgem cars were across the path from the top tramway station, where the new house is. It’s only a few years since that was demolished.

Heyas Darren, I was blissfully unaware of the toboggan run and Ariel flight history when I was with my brother and cousins using the Glen rock faces as a playground. I remember the trees didnt seem as grown as they do now and the water way into the dam was always on show. I eventually bought a small caravan at Dobrudden(?) Farm overlooking the Glen. Back then it was a couple fields with small tourer type caravans and a cafe in the farmhouse. All pleasant memories. Cheers DougT

Really liked this series! Brilliant that you could find where these two rides were and that something was still there after all these years! There was something similar at Devils Dyke near Brighton with a Victorian funicular and a similar aerial flight, well worth a visit as believe there are remains there too. Views up there are also stunning.

@@edwinturner1149 I used to go there as a kid to see Go Kart racing and later the stock cars. A few things remained when I first went from some of the rides and most of the frame of one ride was still there, either dodgems or a waltzer. There were riding stables not far away where we played in one of the open coaches from the miniature railway, I always wondered where that came from and it was years after when I found out. I think Darren is going to go there one day He mentioned the place on another video. There was a little video on here years ago showing boats on one of the lakes, could still be there

5:38 So the attraction relied on the novelty of flying through the air in a wagon with a couple of your mates and nothing else? It didn't go from somewhere of interest to somewhere else of interest, it would appear. Such innocent times and how different to our blasé "been there done that" attitude today.

Probably wrought iron Darren as it works well in tension unlike cast iron which would have been too brittle for the purpose although it works sell in compression. The holes would have been drilled, the anchor pins inserted and then the space filled with molten lead to secure it once the lead had cooled and set.
