I would disagree. We don’t see global uniformity nor do we see evidence that it is coming. The diversity of ideas is still very large online, and the internet has provided spaces for development, change, and intellectual diversity to occur and grow. We do see a lot of homogeneous ideas online, but I believe that is from societal influence and the increased visibility of the ideas and views of humans around the world. In short, I believe Crichton was very wrong about the internet, but did pick up on some of the trends and effects it will and has had. I believe he just took those effects to the extreme without accounting for individual variance and how that effects the system. Edit: of course I could be wrong, but I am just stating what I see. Although, the environmental effects of our physical internet technology could be what drives us and potentially the life on this world to near extinction or extinction.

This should have been the movie... much better paced with actual stakes, the dinosaurs are genuinely terrifying when written like this the constant bits exposition with Malcolm, lavine and Harding with varying scientific opinions and general contradictory statements of each conflicting with each other of what they think is going on keeps the non climactic moments genuinely gripping and interesting. Such awell written story adding onto the events of the first novel, with plenty of Easter eggs looking in to ingens and even biosin's shady motives and accomplishment. These two books, Jurassic Park and The Lost World, are the most relevant books to our modern world that I have ever read. Ethical topics in science, technology, and philosophy are brilliantly laid out in the work of fiction. I don't typically care much for fiction, but Crichton blends the line of fiction and reality so better than anyone else. He was a true free thinking intellectual. The world needs more people like him in it.

2 things I love about Crichton: he was good at exploring ethical and philosophical ideas without pontificating, and his grasp of science and technology was so great that it's hard to tell where the science ends and the fiction begins.

2:58:35, Levine estimates the RV/trailer weight at 2 tons. That's about 500lbs LESS then a Tesla model S. Or about 200lbs more then a stock 1992 ford explorer. The Explorer they brought had lots of accessories on it, easily pushing it over 4,000lbs (2 tons). But, by DR. Levine's estimation, their small SUV somehow weighs more then an RV attached to a giant trailer.

I love how Crichton just completely disregarded the fact that in the first book he made rexy unable to see stationary objects, but the Rex couple can. Of course it could be a difference in genetic coding, but still, he pulled a 180.

I think this was actually because the scientific thinking on this issue changed between the first and second book (or at least the movie caused there to be widespread scrutiny of the theory that rexes only saw movement), so Crichton used this scene to sort of correct the record. He never planned to write a second JP book until Spielberg and co begged him to do one with Malcolm as the main protagonist, so there was quite a bit of retconning in this book lol.

It didn’t bother me in the slightest that they retconned the books. Strangely enough, though I never capitalized on it, the movies were what made me wish to be a paleontologist for a very long time. It was strange for my teachers to hear a 4 year old in pre-k say they wanted to be a paleontologist when they grew up.

Superb voice acting. Absolutely nailed Goldblums voice pattern, making it easier to picture Malcolm. Also the other characters were great. Especially Levine who sounded like a bratty teenager. Dude really pisses me off
