My nan used to take me around the lifts in a local town called Bracknell. Back in the late 70s/80s all the lifts were noisy. Used to ask her "why do they make that noise" and she said "it's just they way they are designed". Had she explained about the STAR-DELTA motor start up sequence that creates this WHOOPing noise then it would have made better sense haha!!

That's loud?! I barely heard anything! :D LOL!!! Maybe there is an amplifier/mic next to the machine, to make it loud. It's got Classic Leveling to boot. I rode some badly modded 1910's Otis Elevators that were deafening. My camera didn't pick up the intensity, but it was ear-piercing. If you search "1910's otis", it's the top 2 videos, those display the noise, but not the loudness.

On all the units that are closed in the shopping centre there is a to let sign - however M&S doesn't have one - I have been told that someone owns the place (He doesn't know the name of the person unfortunately). I would like to but as you said it's unlikely that they would say yes :( No signs at all saying who the building is managed by, and if you could contact anyone it would be the shopping centre itself! Just remembered about the BHS lift - that could be interesting, and the passenger lifts in the Observatory seem to have their original motors - not sure about the Queensmere ones. Debenhams lifts have been modernised but they don't have the ecodisc motor so they probably are original from when the shop was Allders and when the lift was a Maryatt Scott.

You have a point, maybe a little unfair. My influence comes knowing the area quite well as worked on the town centre cctv system there for 6 years,also slough estates, so I have a fair bit of knowledge and experience. Britwell&common rd estates became areas to avoid if on call at night(cherrypicker was targeted many times), but I'm in Wycombe which also has bad areas. The trading est. is an excellent point with loads of bluechip companies. Maybe also I watch too much Road Wars on tv!
@MichalM6 жыл бұрын
Did you ever film the passenger lifts in the shopping centre? I've always wanted to know the company that made them. If you have some photos/videos please upload them. Any ideas anyone? They were modernised a few years ago to Ecodiscs. Unfortunately no way of identification now except the display above the door inside the lift and on the ground floor. I miss that voice :(
@mrmattandmrchay6 жыл бұрын
I did have a good look for the videos you mention. I DID actually film them, but didn't think they were interesting enough to upload. That was A LONG TIME ago and cannot find them now. I believe they had the old RED/WHITE Express arrows on the outside, but crappy 7-segment LEDs on the inside for the floor display. This means they were modernised I guess in the 2000s at some stage.
