So fast...so tight...the Lizards! Great fun to see them here.

It was in 1981 in London when i saw them - and heard of them - actually. They opened up for the first re-formed King Crimson band, which appeared under the name DISCIPLINE at the time. I remember that the guitarist ( must have been Arto Lindsay ) kept breaking the strings of his guitar by strumming very hard on dissonant random chords. Near the end of the performance no string was left unbroken. Then he unstrapped the guitar, took a saxophone and played a unison - or octave apart - duet with John Lurie, which brought the performance to the end. An enjoyable experience on the whole. He is in this performance too, although he is hardly visible.

He was diagnosed with Lyme disease a few years back and he's physically incapable of playing sax because it vibrates through your whole body when you play. Painting was pretty much the only art he could do for a long time if any. He does some music now and is on the mend, thank god. I really like his artwork, it's very moody and ties in well with his music. Is it because it's not polished or a conventional type of art that you find it hard to relate to?

i only managed to listen to their music in 1986, and then had the opportunity to enjoy a live show in berlin, also in the later eighties. thanx for uploading!

no..the guitarist is danny rosen. i am not sure if it's the same version, but 1981 live recordings are collected in the "live 79-81" ROIR cassette, than reprinted n vinyl and CD later

There might be some but their quality would be pretty sketchy as that would be late 70's/early 80's..if you can track down a movie called "Underground USA" AL is playing w/LL on the closing soundtrack

Why Henry Fliegelheimer? Of course Old Bill hipped us to that bizarre rant Henry put out when he was dying. All that is very beatnik.. and the Lizards are the archetypal Beatnik band. "French Canadian bean soup! Tell them I want to pay!" All of which puts us in mind of that wonderful country tune that has the kicker "..but I'm shot four times and dyin'!"

Why did John quit to be a painter? I've seen his painting and its.. well.. musicians aren't necessarily good at every art form. Even after 30 years I still find the Lizards dynamic and exciting, much more so than most contemporary music. Maybe they just hit a niche in my brain or something? Retro beatnik?

wasn’t exactly a desire, but he got lyme disease and it caused something where he couldn’t play sax anymore.
