I think true crime is just a different rodeo than what Ethan and h3 is doing/is prepared for. Putting real life tragedies and crime in the middle of a comedy podcast doesn’t reach the audience it might’ve intended it to be. Shoutout to AB and Lena, though! But I think that trying a serious topic like this that already has its own controversies can break the comedic cohesion of what makes this podcast special. Just not the time or place but much love. I think this was a tough one because (with love to Lena ❤) all the true crime fans who would have been excited for a crime PowerPoint already saw the Nightstalker Netflix doc, and anyone who doesn’t know of this case doesn’t like true crime anyway. So she got a tough crowd. Also, typing full paragraphs on PowerPoint slides and then reading the slides word for word is something we’re taught not to do in school. The PowerPoint is just meant to be a guide with visual aids and bullet points, while the story telling is up to the presenter from memory. Overall, I DO want to see more from Lena and AB and I hope this encourages them both to keep improving! I loved the effort, and thought AB’s ad-lib input really elevated the whole thing! Lena looked cute in her glasses too! Edit to add: something more relevant and lighthearted would have worked better than 1980s ultra dark SA stories. Think Carlee Russell and Sherri Papini’s cringe kidnapping hoaxes for example. THAT would have been funny and also relevant to current events.

@jaxsmith1204 Жыл бұрын
@@SixHundredAndSixtySix Exactly. I get that she was nervous, but this is a multi-million dollar podcast with 50,000 ppl watching. I think improv/acting classes would do Lena a world of good, and I mean that sincerely. I’ve taken them before and it really does give you confidence and change how you speak, perform. It’s worth it for the pod to invest in her taking a once a week class like that ❤️ I hope Ethan pays for that, it would improve the pod overall. Not everyone can be a natural like Ethan! And Olivia was a theater kid to begin with, so she has that training. It’s okay for Lena to take some classes. The whole team could have either prepared her better or put a stop to it before going live. Do they not do focus groups or brainstorming sessions together? No test run with the crew? Lena is taking the heat, but someone should have put a stop to this before it went live. Her monotone voice needed work, the subject matter was outdated, dark, and irrelevant, and the slides were text heavy/scripted. These are all fixable problems, and id love to see what she comes back with after some improv/acting classes!! We love her, she just needs to be set up for success!

Lena’s powerpoint looks AMAZING and the effort was so high, I just wish next time Lena / AB talk about something they can add their own info about and don’t just read out walls and walls of text that make it sound a little like a school history lecture. @@brysephone A lot of the time it comes from pain, it can be "everyone in my life has hurt me, this is the worst person that exists, if they dont hurt me maybe im redeemable." Or some obsession with trying to "fix/save" someone, or "save" society by fixing this person. It usually is from being exposed to violence and abuse and not having processed it and dealt with the trauma in a healthy manner, so many fkn issues and behaivors are created from trauma, it can take a lifetime to deal with it all and thats only if the person is self aware enough or has someone in their life to help them through the journey. I had a fascination with "evil guys/anti heros" in movies and books, but it never moved past fiction, I find it disturbing and gross people are attracted to real evil, but I mostly feel sad and worried that these people don't see the mental damage they are causing to themselves, feeding that pain and allowing it to manifest in really fkn weird ways like this.
