I don't think so. These engines seem to have most power on low rpms, and the longer they run, the more heated they get, and ignition timing shifts, and power is lost, especially on high rpm. It's not your regular diesel, it's a hot bulb oil diesel. However, a blower would help: these engines suffer from mediocre cylinder ventilation, and process efficiency drops.

Beautiful video, but you forgot to mention one vital thing: after the preheating phase, to fire up the engine and, as you said, there's no starter motor: you have to crank it by turning one of the flywheels. You have to literally put your hands on one flywheel (there's one of them for each side of the tractor) and than spin it. I think it's tha manliest way to fire up a tractor, even though mayoe not the most convenient 😂
@omartadashi33546 ай бұрын

That hopping is not a result of torque, but rather from inertia of the reciprocating assembly. Similarly, when you rev a stationary car and it rocks, thats inertia of the rotating assembly, not torque. It takes almost no torque to rock a car.
@MikkelL036 ай бұрын
If you get this engines revs way way way down you could probably make it turn backwards wich enabels you ro run without reverse gear. Many older ships did this. I can tell you guys it is actually very funny playing with such an engine. You make it nearly spin backwards and then let it spin the "normal" way again. It makes a very "funny" and unique sound(: How do I know? Got a degree in qhip building and repair which requires you to also be able to work on all sorts of engines.

99% sure Lanz Engines reverse rotation. They will even run at “0 Rpm” where they never make a full rotation, just bounce back and forth between TDC. No idea about the landini. I’ve sailed on direct reversing big old Sulzers and B&W’s. Pretty cool stuff.

Tourque has nothing to do with the tractor “jumping”.
@slv-mf7ui6 ай бұрын
It doesn't "make so much torque the entire vehicle bounces", the bouncing has nothing to do with how much torque it has. The reason it bounces is because it's a very large 1 cylinder engine, so the piston moving up and down weighs a lot and bounces it around. If it had multiple cylinders instead of one big one it could make the same amount of torque but not bounce because as some cylinders went up others would be going down and they'd balance each other out. It just bounces because it has a large heavy thing moving up and down inside of it and inertia works as expected.
