CEO of LUCID is the former long time chief engineer of Tesla who engineered all of the current Tesla cars. He was the brains behind Tesla and you can see that in how efficient, powerful and small the motors of LUCID cars are among other clever details.
@Miata8222 жыл бұрын
CEO Peter Rawlinson was Tesla's VP of engineering during the Model S design but left soon after the car was designed over reported tension w/ Tesla management. Before Tesla Rawlinson was chief engineer at the Lotus sports car company. He was there during the original Tesla Roadster project that Lotus built. A degreed mechanical engineer in the UK he had designed his own race cars after graduating before going to work for Jaguar. People always mention Rawlinson working at Tesla, but he is a dyed-in-the-wool car guy, with roots on the racetrack. He built a team of dedicated car guys at Lucid. That's why Lucids perform, handle, and ride so well.
@sunnyvalentino2 жыл бұрын
@Bill Kerr thanks for that. The guy is brilliant and it shows in Lucid. Lotus cars are the best handling cars I've ever driven, the fact that he could go from that to pioneering/leading electric motor development is impressive.

@blakespringpasturemortimer91682 жыл бұрын
@@wizzyno1566 Rawlinson did not engineer "a bit" of the Model S. Tesla's own press release when it hired him said he was the Chief Engineer of the Model S project, responsible for all aspects of bringing the car to market. Rawlinson's name is on 70 Tesla patents. Musk's name is on 0. Also, if you look up "Car & Driver" and "Motor Trend" articles from the 2011 L.A. Auto Show at which the Model S was publicly premiered, you'll see that Peter Rawlinson was identified as the Chief Engineer of the car and was also the man on the podium presenting the car to the press. This "Rawlinson was just a minor chassis engineer" nonsense is just another of Musk's lies to inflate himself at the expense of others who make him feel threatened.

Had my Air GT for 2 weeks now, and for the most part I think you gave this a fair eval. Me personally, I wanted to stand apart from the "Tesla me too" crowd, and I also was looking at the EQS, but the styling just didn't do it for me. I have been driving EV's since 2012 and before had one of the first Prius's in Jan. 2004, so for me it has always been about range, not how fast I can go. I love the smooth comfortable ride, but know if I need it, this has what it takes to get me there FAST. Your eval of the front seats I think is unfair, the Lucid has so many custom adjustments for the mid back, side adjustment, thigh adjustment, heat and vented, coupled with the full seat message functions (Both front seats) and head rest, and (I'm 6'9") that riding a long distance will not be an issue what so ever. Now to be fair, there are some things I do not like that I may have to get used to or put up with, like opening the glovebox. While that is a neat novelty feature, in the real world, having to navigate to the home screen to open it blows. I have found, and this could be that the car is so far behind in the updates (did 10 updates last night 1/23/23) that while driving I needed to adjust the passenger side mirror, but while driving that mirror wasn't available to adjust for some reason. Hoping that gets fixed real soon. Overall I really like this car, it does turn a lot of heads and for now it is very exclusive. There are only a handful of them in the city I live. I'm on a quest to get Electrifiy America to allow me to build some inner city charging stations, but that has proven to be a really slow process.

Loving the Lucid for my taste. It’s honestly astonishing to think that there 1st act is this good. It seems they are establishing quite a brand quickly. Good video. What would I choose? Well, my Air GT was delivered in April. I love it. I enjoy spirited driving on engaging roads. The real game changer for me is that the Air GT has enough real-world battery and efficiency to make long trips at Texas highway speed and the handling to enjoy those fun roads when I get there. From my DFW home I have visited both the Ozarks and the Colorado Rockies. Yes, the GT is costly, but the Touring version (shipping now) has the same interior quality, 620hp (plenty), more range than any Tesla, and is about the same price as a base Model S (with any paint or upholstery option). The Touring also has a deeper rear seat footwell than the GT. *NOTE- You misstated the Air Pure base price. Today it starts at $87,400 ($17,000 less than a base Model S but with more range)

I have a significant investment in Lucid and an Air GT. I can tell you without hesitation that I highly recommend a test drive if it is in your range. If not, well, it may spoil you for anything else. The lower screen is very useful, especially for parking in tight spot while using the overhead view. Adjusting seat bolsters, mirrors, or scheduling updates you do while parked. Beyond that you seldom use it while driving, but it is very handy for the passenger to use if they want to pull up certain music, search for a restaurant, etc. The retracting screen is a clever feature that I only used to show off to visitors. It has little utility.

We took delivery of a Model S Plaid (a replacement for our 2015 Model S P90D) in August 2021. We took delivery of our Lucid Air Dream Performance in December 2021. The Lucid was production car No. 154. The Plaid was delivered with several more defects than the Lucid. The three Lucid defects -- loose rear license plate holder, misaligned trunk lid, loose weatherstripping on trunk lid -- were fixed quickly by Lucid with home visits. Some of the Plaid defects -- steering yoke scuffing against steering column, right outside review mirror not securely attached to car, rubber grommets coming off trunk lid studs, and defective driver air bag (that took two replacements to fix) -- were fixed with a combination of home and shop visits. Some of the Plaid defects -- misaligned body panels, misaligned interior trim pieces, and protective film ahead of rear wheels and behind door handles being noticeably yellow against the white car -- are just something we are going to live with, having gotten used to Tesla assembly quality after seven years of owning Teslas. Now, over a year later and with around 15,000 miles on both cars, the Plaid has developed body squeaks and groans, while the Air remains as quiet and solid as a rock.

Given Tesla's continued poor build quality despite building cars for 15 years now, poor quality materials, and being fairly unreliable, I'm gonna go with the Lucid for this one. The Lucid CEO is an engineer who spent a significant portion of his career working as the lead engineer for Lotus, then was poached by Tesla to run their flagship Model S program, which he did for 3 years, before leaving to start Lucid and do it all better than everyone else. The lucid has significantly better range, better build quality, better materials, better design, better comfort, better drag coefficient...it's just better all the way around. The only real part they're lagging in is software, but that's constantly being updated OTA and I have no doubt they're going to get there. And did I mention the range? If you go with the 19" wheels, it's got 516 miles of range!!!

I7 exterior and interior look a mess. Not sure if a large screen which would be in close proximity to rear passengers' faces helps or makes it even worse. I7 interior looks like it was designed purely by tech engineers with no consultation from trained artists or designers.

Planning to review it soon, but from my experience of the new 760i, the materials used in this Lucid feel higher end

@@MilesPerHr Thanks for confirming that it's hot due to the glass roof. I have a Tesla Y and absolutely hate the heat. I ordered the Pure for the value (price and range) .... and yes, the metal roof !

Definitely Not as luxurious as the EQS. The use of materials are tech focused and not tailored to luxury.
