The pedal comments are insightful. Nice to see a review that tries to add value rather than regurgitating every other Lucid review saying it’s the best EV ever. I have an EQS and the pedal feel is exactly like a gas car on the highway. It gives you that “coast” feel that you referenced. I am now driving the Lucid Air Pure after owning both a Model S and the Y. It is a fantastic road car. I have never felt the need for a "coast" feature though I understand many might like this. I love the UX experience much more than in the Tesla as it definitely feels and looks better to me. I didn't like the direction the Tesla design philosophy was taking (EVERYTHING is on the screen) so was very pleasantly surprised when I discovered Lucid and their simple but intuitive layout...it feels like they actually wanted to enhance the user experience rather than force people to adapt to what the company wants. Just enough tactile push buttons but not too overwhelming. The software is not as mature as Tesla's but the OTA updates are very timely. By the way, the glass roof is an OPTION on the Touring and Grand Touring models or you can purchase a shade from Lucid for those very sunny days. The Lucid Pure (and Sapphire) only comes with a hard roof. All in all I love the car and with their adoption of the NACS charging system in 2025, there will be no excuse not to go on those long road trips, especially with an super efficient 400+ miles. Thanks for the nice review.

Great video! When I got my Air Pure, the pedal was exactly as you had described. I was seriously considering trying to return the car. It actually took a great deal of force to move the pedal AT ALL. A technician came to look at it but didn't end up doing anything. And then, lo and behold, after about two weeks the pedal started behaving normally. That was by far my biggest gripe about the car and it solved itself somehow. It sounds like most (or all) Lucids have ridiculously tight pedals that (at least if my case is typical), will correct themselves after a few weeks of driving.

Air GT owner, I have been about Range for years. I got that burst of energy out of my system with the early EV's I had. 99% of the time I'm in Smooth mode, only if someone requests a launch do I do Sprint mode. Honestly not at all important. I get 450 drive mile range, and a charge range of 470 consistently. As for the accelerator pedal is concerned, this must be a 2025 thing, because I don't experience this at all, and I only use Standard Regen. I don't think I have ever tried High Regen. Charging on the Lucid Air GT is still not where it should be based on the 900V architecture it is built around. I use a 350KW hyper charger, and it will ramp up to maybe 305KW, and then slope down to the 250KW range and slowly fall as the battery gets full. However, seeing the Silverado sit at 250KW consistently during the charge cycle, I'm a bit jealous. Just last week, I was charging next to a Ionic 5 that is built on an 800V architecture, and we started at the same time, and he hit 100% when I was just hitting 72%. Sure, I can get up to 300 mile range in about 20 minutes, but real added miles is generally 225 or so. Not bad, but it would be better if the charge controller of the Lucid maintained an input level of 250KW up to the 80% or higher state of charge. By the time I got to 80% I was at 50KW....Terrible, which is why I never go for a full charge at an EA, and just allow my solar array do the top off the next day. Lane Keeping on the Lucid is very frustrating for sure. I keep it off because otherwise I just feel it is constantly battling me for control of the car. As a human, crossing over a yellow or white line in a turn lane at a light is completely normal, but Lane Keep reacts just like a computer would (Right/Wrong) no in between. The sun beating on me through the glass roof (in Texas) got old real quick. I even added top of the line Xpel ceramic tint, and it didn't help at all either. Finally, I got the fabric inserts that act like a solar screen, and blocks 99% of that direct sun / heat, and still allows you to look through it. It also provides a small level of insulation from the cold during the winter or colder months. But this year I'm going to try to take them off and see if I like it during the colder months. Course there is a chance I will be lazy and not do it. ;) I personally like to door latch, it's different, and feels good. Your statement about it not being fun to drive is just your opinion. For me I know it is a luxury sedan and enjoy driving it that way, and if I have to jump on it, it's available. But I do not expect it to be a sports car. See IMO you are confusing the Power this car has and trying to equate it to something that it's not. It's not a E-Ray nor is it advertised to be. You assessment on why Lucid doesn't sell well is a fair argument, but honestly I personally think it is about brand awareness. People I encounter who talk to me about the car, 1 out of 20 have heard about the car, most have not, and then when they are interested and see the price tag....well IMO that tells the whole story. I personally like having 1 of 3 in my area. Overall a fairly good video. Honest and fair. Good Job. Good Luck and Take care.

Tesla has the software functionality that gives you more options. Better app with forward looking features even though some aren’t fully executed yet. The same issues raised in this video exist in the Rivian (regen and coasting.) Additionally, the Rivian will not "creep" at very low speeds. For multiple reasons, including charging infrastructure, cost, long-term reliability, value for money, and more; the EV market has hit the cap of current capacity and will only slowly rise from now on unless there is a revolutionary change in EV fundamentals. It's a good part of why the governments (other than California because California) have rolled back the requirements for vehicle manufacturers to have all-EV or mostly-EV sales by X date. The base model Lucid is cheaper than the Tesla Model S, has longer range than the Tesla, and is still much nicer inside. Lucid's issue with sales, as much as anything, is just brand awareness. That is improving. Lucid sold more cars by the end of August than it had in all of last year. Later this year Lucid's feature-rich 3-row Gravity SUV Model goes on sale and already has many people asking when they can reserve one. I have driven my Air GT for over two and a half years, thrilled with the car. Service has been both rare and awesome. There is no coast because Lucid has calibrated their cars to drive like a gas car that has a manual permanently in the lowest gear, not an automatic slushbox. You can coast with an automatic because of the torque converter, but with a manual you'll slow down just as fast as the engine braking will allow. Same with an electric motor, except now you can actually recuperate that braking energy.

We're not sure why this comment posted 3 times, but the effort required to keep the Lucid maintaining a set speed is more pressure than a manual transmission car would require on the accelerator. And we have heard from Lucid that they are recalibrating the pedal. Thanks for watching!

@@TestDriveVideos IDK why it posted 3 times either - I think there was a glitch.

Todd, I hope you mean that you prefer to coast off throttle rather than a bad one pedal system. Why would anyone want an EV to drive like an automatic? All EV's are one speed manuals. They should feel like that. Your brake pedal should be friction brakes only, and people should forget that cars ever just coasted and freewheeled. What happens if you drive your manual car around in 2nd or 3rd gear? You will get engine braking when you lift off the throttle. That's what I want my EV to feel like. Also why Porsche is sadly off the table for me forever. Their stubborn and stupid insistence to engineer good equipment and make it drive like bad equipment is infuriating. They made PDK, the dual clutch transmission that feels like a torque converter automatic. "I'm Porsche. I made ice cream that tastes like celery. I made potato chips that taste like Matzo. I made a dual clutch that feels like an automatic. I made an EV that feels like it's a gas car."

Guys do your research before reviewing a car please. The lucid comes with a regular roof.

We are fully aware of that. We are commenting about the one we were given.

Great car for sure, but who the heck has $130,000 sitting around. That’s a part of the problem. Lease may be an option or pick it up used 2-3 yrs later. BTW , the Pedal is a non-issue in the Tesla. Just saying.

EVs will only get better....... big driver of this is the efficiency. Once EVs are doing 5-6 mi/kWh range almost becomes a non issue. From a typical 70-80kWh battery pack you are talking 350-500 miles of range with really fast charging.

This pedal regen issue is reason for me not to buy one. I enjoy the natural coasting of my Taycan so much, never want to have anything else again.

The first company that can build a EV the size of the model 3 and around 30k and can get a range of almost 500miles. 0-60 in less than 4 secs. Then we will be killing the gas car.

Lucid made a low riding sedan when every body buys SUVs. What is the logic in that? I see a few in Atlanta but really no one takes these seriously.

Car reviewers are the ones pushing 0-60 times down our throats and then complaining about how everything is based on 0-60 times is… IRONIC
@TestDriveVideosАй бұрын
Car makers push 0-60 times. And sadly, many magazines set out to see if they can beat them. It is the only consistent metric most people hear about cars. And it’s irrelevant most of the time. Thanks for watching!
@alexibarra4675Ай бұрын
@TestDriveVideos HP is a consistent metric. Neither HP or 0-60 can be measured by a human to the extent where they can know the difference. So be different and talk about the car itself and what it brings to the table. This video was great for that reason, but I guarantee you'll be talking about 0-60 again in the next one 🤷😪

Absolutely not done right if it loses $300k with every sale after a few years of production. I like it but any company can engineer a car like that but it has to be profitable. 🤔 Range far when you can recharge at overnight at home? Like that it's not a Tesla?
@johnb85732 ай бұрын
Any new manufactured product has sunk costs. Tesla took 10 years to be profitable. However, I’m more worried that they aren’t selling more.

Cannot believe people buy Teslas over a Lucid. It's Chevy vs Mercedes. Sexy vs boring.
