Lucille Ball, The Undisputed Queen of TV Comedy stars in her hilarious follow-up to I Love Lucy!
LUCY GETS A ROOMMATE: Lucy brings in a new roommate. A shy, frumpy librarian with odd quirks soon gets on Lucy's nerves. Mary Jane and Lucy plot to get her a social life (and out of the house) by throwing a party to introduce her to some men. After a couple of drinks, Carol goes from mild to a wild party animal.

I wanted to become an actor, because of Carol. In 1976, she sent an autographed picture. 1978, I landed my first acting job as an extra in Peter Seller's "Being There". I was only 9. Jump ahead 2010: I was working on "Glee" with guest star Carol Burnett. I wanted to cry there and then, but knew I had to remain professional and focused on my work.

Every single person on Lucy's show fired on ALL cylinders. She was a visionary and wanted nothing but the best, and she got them... All super talents who performed flawlessly. No one did, or could have done, a better Mr. Mooney than Gale Gordon.. and of course, Vivian Vance was Lucy's right arm for many years. But Burnett was in a league of her own.. Watching them work together is seeing poetry in motion.

Lucy was so impressed by Carol's talent that she told her she'd work with her anytime she asked - and most notably did so when Carol had her first TV special. Lucy (who was quite proud of her well earned nickname of 'Lucille Balls') loathed being upstaged. Every writer in Hollywood knew, Lucy gets the biggest laugh, or else. She knew of a young upstart Redhead making ripples at CBS, and Lucy, basically asked for a full blown FBI style dossier on Carol. She must have liked what she saw, because, as the stories go, a few nights later, Lucy saw Carol, eating alone, at the 'little diner' across from the studio, and sat down at her table... ...by the end of the conversation, Lucy asked Carol to 'guest star' on her show, and gave Carol absolute permission to mop the floor, with her "Tired Old Wig that wants to retire"... This episode represents one of the..... no... The Most beautiful power transfers in the history of Hollywood.

Carol Burnett singing and dancing at the end reminds me of Carol's character "Stella Irving" in the 1963 Dean Martin Elizabeth Montgomery bedroom comedy "Who's been sleeping in my bed" The film has an all star cast! This Show has been dissed because of the greatness of I LOVE LUCY, but this show was excellent too; especially seasons 1-3 with Vivian Vance. Seasons 4 5 6 featured many, many stars...like Carol Burnett...John Wayne, Wayne Newton... Ann Sothern, and Joan Crawford!!

Carol guested on Lucy's show 7 times. This was the best of them. By this time, "The Lucy Show" in its 5th season, was a completely different type of sitcom from its original roots. You would never have seen comedy this broadly played during its first 2 far superior seasons. Broad: yes, but not broadly played. Other than the official season by season DVD releases, The Lucy Show episodes on DVD out there were from the inferior 5th and 6th seasons that somehow fell into public domain. Usually entitled something like "The LOST episodes", sometimes with a picture of Lucy Ricardo on the cover!
