Yep, this was pretty much who Duke was in real life. At this time the most popular movie star on the planet, Duke was always gracious and generous to his fans and wouldn't sit at a table in a restaurant until he signed every autograph, kissed every grandma and accepted a drink at the bar. His daughter (Aissa, I believe) recalled how as kids they would groan when they saw large groups of fans waiting everywhere they went and Duke would say "Remember kids, these people gave us the lifestyle we enjoy". Class, yes. Graciousness, absolutely. I think it was also just the solid, midwestern and old-fashioned virtues he was raised with. Also, it was overlooked how he was a natch when it came to comedy.

Lucille Ball was the greatest comedian ever and was seen as such in her lifetime. Came up #1 in different poles - received all kinds of awards in her lifetime. Marc Daniels, her first director on ILL, said that she was the greatest actor he ever directed, and he had directed people like Sally Field, Paul Newman, Laurence Olivier and others. Also when Orson Welles appeared on ILL and was watching her from the wings, he was asked why he was so absorbed - he said I am watching the greatest American actor. Yes, she did receive credit from many many people during her lifetime - a reputation which continues today 2022.

I remember wondering whether, had JW still been alive, would I have been lucky enough to have had the opportunity to meet him in person!?! I knew he was wonderful because of his reputation with all his old movies that my mom used to watch, my mom adored him, and with JW being a resident of Newport Beach, OC even named their airport after him. Omg! When John said , " you mouth off like that again, you'll be a dead man" I laughed so hard! Where do you find comedy like this today ..
@RoughJustice2k184 жыл бұрын
John Wayne didn't normally do comedies - yet he made an exception for some people, including Lucille Ball.

Amazing to look back and think about the old days with secretaries, shorthand, having letters dictated to them. The older days when they had secretarial pools full of typists. Lucille Ball was talented as well as a beautiful lady. Outside of the studio, she was said to be very focused on the family.

I was only a kid then, but I had myself convinced I'd meet him some day and we'd get married! I still love him, he was a great human being.

@K Ray After a bad choice, I met and married a man who was very similar to Mr. Wayne. We had 30 beautiful yrs together before he passed. Keep the faith, K.

@K Ray In my heart I'm still married. It's only been six yrs and I look for my husband every day.I guess I didn't get married til death parted us...but for all eternity. I couldn't tell by your name if you are male or female, but it doesn't matter, just keep the faith that God will show you the one He has chosen for you. It makes all the difference. Blessings!

FYI John Wayne wore a size 9 boots 🥾 He also walked with a swagger because he had scoliosis and wasn’t treated as child. He hurt when he walked, that’s the swagger. Truth. ✌️❤️🙏👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
