Today, we are doing a full-pull on a Southern California classic, The Luge. Located in Orange County's Trabuco Canyon, The Luge offers both spectacular views and rad descending. We are gonna concentrate on the main downhill portion. Most riders access the downhill as part of a loop that starts at Cook's Corner. The full loop is about 7.7 mile long, and you will climb somewhere around 1200 feet.
The main Luge DH is about one mile long and offers thrilling flow trail with constant exposure and gorgeous views during most of the 622 foot descent.
Doing a full-pull on the trail means riding the entire descent non-stop. In video form, it's an uncut view of that descent. If you've never done The Luge, this full-pull may help you be more prepared for when you do ride it. If you're familiar with The Luge, you may be able to pick up some lines. You may also be able to give me some pointers.
I hope you find this full-pull on The Luge helpful...or at least fun to watch.

@mtb_alan
@mtb_alan 3 жыл бұрын
Well...I'd suggest The Luge. Ha! Nothing gets you used to exposure like exposure to exposure. Just take it easy and work on keeping your eyes further down the trail (not looking off into the exposure). Also work on controlling your speed and keeping it consistent. The biggest danger on trails like that is getting too much speed and then trying to slow down too fast and then skidding. Hope that helps!

Is hanging bikes bad I saw intro background. Doesn't it do stuff to the hydraulics overtime?
@mtb_alan
@mtb_alan 4 жыл бұрын
It’s actually good for the suspension. And as far as hydraulics, it should be a closed system so if changing bike orientation affects the amount of air in the system, there is something wrong. Also, if you are servicing the bike regularly, there’s no real long term factors at play. Hope that helps! 🤘🏽

How difficult is the climb for this trail? I'm not the strongest climber so I'm hesitant to give it a try
@mtb_alan
@mtb_alan 3 жыл бұрын
The first part from Cook's Corner on the road is pretty gross. Once you're on the dirt, it gets better. I don't know how much pedaling fitness you have, but once you're past the road climb, there are several good places to take breaks and enjoy the views and just being outside. Also MTB Project has the full loop if you wanna look at the grades, etc. www.mtbproject.com/trail/7004137/the-luge-loop Hope that helps.

Not trying to nit pick you. For anybody when asking for feedback or opinions on lets say "what is better"? What is the criteria? I could assume that asking what is the better line you may be wanting to know what people think is the fastest line or smoothest line or funniest line. But even those descriptions are subjective. Allen I challenge you to determine what is "best" for you for what ever you are looking for. Stop and session sections. Watch others and try there lines but really it all comes down to are you having fun regardless of what others are doing. To improve your skills you need to try it all and in every way you can imagine. You will notice when watching great riders riding together they rarely take the same lines or ride a trail in the same way.
@mtb_alan
@mtb_alan 4 жыл бұрын
Of course it's subjective, Duane. That's kinna the point. I already know what I think. I am interested in hearing what others think.

Part of a loop meaning no way to shuttle to the top? 😔
@mtb_alan

You can shuttle to the gate to cut out the road part of the climb. But there's nowhere to park up there. Closest place to park a truck up top is near the bottom of Modjeska Grade Road.

What skill level is needed to ride this? It looks like a black diamond type of run...
@mtb_alan
@mtb_alan 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! MTB Project rates The Luge as a Black, but I think it depends on how fast you ride it. It is a great trail because can be fun for anybody who is at least beginner/intermediate. And people have a blast on that trail on all types of mountain bikes new and old. The climb is probably the biggest challenge for beginners. It's a pretty mellow climb except for a couple spots. Search for "The Luge Loop Portola Hills" on MTB Project. 👍🏽
