Mike, Congrats on 5,000 subscribers!! But I see that you're already at over 6,000! What a juggernaut! Ha! We met and talked for a few minutes at the Old School Comic Show in Concord about comics, hiking and skiing. Been following you from almost the beginning of the show. I've been collecting since I was a shrub- the comics cover price then was....12 cents! I remember one time when I was about 10, my older brother and I were told to stay in the car while my mom did some business in town. We were parked about two blocks from the "paper store" as everyone called it, our one source for comics. But like you- we didn't have any money- (and no lunch money as my mom packed our bag school lunch every day). We actually pulled the back seat up and out of the car to see if we could find the 12 cents for a mag.....sniff....no luck that day. Really enjoy the show- please keep up the good work! #5000

I collect comics because it has always been my connection to my father. He passed away when I was 16. I spent countless hours thumbing through his collection and reading his books as a kid. When he passed, his siblings sold off his collection, so I’ve spent half my life finding and replacing what I can. It’s a journey that I have spent the last five years sharing with my son. He gets so excited to see new books come and talk about them, and brings me such great joy because he never got the chance to meet my dad. #5000

I had a few comics as a kid. And grew up on TMNT, X-Men, and Batman cartoons and movies as a kid. The last ronin is what got me back into collecting comics. An original TMNT would be perfect for my collection. Congrats on the channel. #5000

Love all the videos. I started collecting comics when I was about 7 or 8. My father would go get the Sunday papers on Saturday night down at Tony's in Yonkers, NY. My dad would get my sisters and I a comic book every week. I got Batman and mostly DC. My sisters would get Archie comics and Casper the Friendly Ghost. Couldn't wait until he got home every week to read them. Congratulations! #5000

One of my favorite parts of your channel is that you talk about sharing the hobby with your son. When I busted my longboxes out of storage at the start of the pandemic and blew the dust off of them, my twin boys went crazy! Showing them so many of the books that I had collected as a kid has been one of my favorite memories in a long time. They got so into the characters and stories that they both had to immediately get their own shortbox. Now all three of us enjoy the hobby.. maybe one day we can get the wife on-board. haha. Firstly, let me say congratulations on 5000. There are hundreds of KZbin channels that anyone can watch and learn about comic books, yours has become one of my favorite. I like to include my eight-year-old son and it’s clean, wholesome fun that I don’t have to worry about foul language, but other negative things. I too am on the East Coast and I am lucky to have lots of options. My son and I have been going to the clifton comic show the second Sunday of every month and he has started to recognize the different vendors. I have not been up to your area, but it seems that you have lots of options as well. Once again congratulations #5000.

I got back into comics when my Dad passed away and I found my old short box in a closet that I put in there when I was a kid. It was filled with the forgotten comics I had collected in the 90s. All the cool 90s gimmicks covers that I had. it was like taking a trip down memory lane there use to be a comic shop down the street a few blocks from where we lived. I would go down there on a Friday or a Saturday after I got my allowance from mowing the yard and taking the trash out. It must of been enough to buy one or two comics and then I would walk down to the corner store and buy a soda pop and a candy bar if I had any money left from buying comics. I do believe I have used collecting comics as a way to take my mind off of the passing of my father. it was a lot to cope with at the time for me and I used comics as a mechanism to help me mentally cope with it. I don’t know how healthy that is or if it’s even normal behavior to use a hobby like that to cope with the passing of loved ones but glad I found my short box that day. since then that one short box has multiplied to about ten short boxes I guess they have a tendency to multiply when one hasn’t collected comics in the past 30 years, then goes diving headfirst into them again. #5000

What an incredible story Travis, thank you for sharing. It’s interesting how often the things that make us feel better are things from our childhood. I think we crave that feeling of innocence and security we had as kids. Life was simpler with a comic and a soda and I think we all crave that simple feeling in our anything-but-simple adult lives.

I started looking through dollar bins when I was young. It went in phases but eventually got didn’t to it so much. Then my great uncle died from Covid. I was very sad and at times even mad. I'm pretty new to your channel. I started collecting many many years ago, but had to part with my collection. Now, thirty odd years later, I'm slowly rebuilding what I lost. What I like about your channel is you don't concentrate on value, or "slabs". I collect to read, so most of mine are in decent condition but I doubt I'll make much cash off of them! My one grandfather would buy them and we would sit there and read them together. So I learned to read and draw from comics. I really started collecting in middle school. I'm just a guy from the Midwest that has been getting back into collecting comics for the past few years. I previously collected a few books here and there in the 90's, but was limited to whatever I thought was cool when I had a chance to spend some of my chore and lawn mowing money. Fast forward to the mid-2000's and I started to collect all of the toys I had as a kid in the 80's and 90's, and many that I just didn't get a chance to own back in the day. My hobbies took a back seat when we had kids, who I still try and get interested in the hobby now and again, and now I'm working my way back into comics. I was shocked when I realized how young your channel was, you're a great presenter and your channel has developed such a cool community. The only comics I had access to as a kid was the small selection at my local IGA grocery store. So it was awesome when my uncle would come down from Philadelphia to our small town in West Virginia because he’d always have a few to give away to me and my cousins. He’d even cross out the curse words so my Mom wouldn’t fuss. #5000

Got into comics in the mid 90s as a teenager. Went into a local record store that happened to have some books and spotted a Mcfarlane Amazing Spider-man book. Never saw art like that before and was immediately hooked. 5-10 years later I sold off most of my collection (300-400 books). I'm now in my mid 40s trying to find all my favorite books I sold off including the Mcfarlanes. Keep up the good work, sir. #5000

Such a Great thing to do for the comic book community this is the main reason I love the hobby so much! I started reading and drawing comics back in 1993 lol Jim Lee X-Men was my introduction to the world of comics! As I got older life got tougher and I fell away from the hobby for over 24 and I just recently started back reading and collecting so to see the community filled with so much love and appreciation just makes the journey that much more exciting!! Thank you for helping people like me who has been away for years catch up and even reminding me of a few books and characters and story lines that I have forgotten or just never heard over! My favorite comic book is most definitely my G.I. Joe A Real American Hero #1. I started collecting since I was 15 because of a reading disability. My English teacher figure it out and helped me by giving me comic books and asking me to do book reports on them. I thank you for giving me such a wonderful gift of reading and collecting. #5000

I started collecting during the pandemic when i was gifted a few bronze and silver age comics. After selling and trading I have a small but mighty collection of my absolute favorites! #5000
