I cringe when I hear someone going on a rant about how they “hate liars”. I always challenge that. I’ll say “never told a lie ?” Then they always justify what they say with the old line “small lies aren’t lies”. What they mean to say is “the lies I tell don’t count I only hate OTHER people who lie to me”

Someone has re-opened last week (like restaurants, but only for take away), others maybe will re-open next week (like hairdressers). Seems like everyone wears a mask to try to impress or please someone. To hell with the mask. Just Be yourself, enjoy life and to hell with trying to be "somebody" when you are already yourself. I do enjoy watching people wear masks who try to conceal their true identity. So I might enjoy this show/

Ferrante is a powerful narrator, but not a writer. Her language is a cascade of predictable adjectives and predictable combinations: irony is "good-natured", days "fly by", issues "unfold", conversations are "brilliant". It's all pre-chewed: "I was burning with desire, I couldn't wait to see him again". And then: "We were mad for love, time flew by". Nothing is unsettling. Everything proceeds in an epic way, but without style. And literature, you know, is just a matter of style.
