Nobody has ever explored the limits of lyrebird's repertoire? why?! Those are the most fascinating vocal chords i have ever heard!

I've heard the sounds of coal train carriages clashing together and the grunts of deers from a lyrebird near my home town. It freaked me out big time because there was no train around at the time!!

This is the best bird species in the world. I think they should start replacing parrots in all the pet stores and be breed in mass quantities because they are so awesome.

i visited friends outside Melbourne towards the snowy mountains and we were sitting on the back deck have a tea and from the forest behind us at night fall is a lyrebird doing a baby crying. The lyre bird was imitating their new born baby. It was a weird thing to hear coming from the forest.

The sounds they they make depend on the area that they live. E.g in the Blue Mountains of NSW,where I am from they mainly mimic local birds, however on the North Coast forests north of Newcastle they're more likely to mimic chainsaw sounds because that's where there is a large timber industry

Ms. Dalziell herself was worthy of several kinds of mating call, sadly the sound of an actual Rolls Royce engine operated by some oick likely having consigned the lyrebird to a life of frustrated solitude.
