I seriously think people don’t know what to do on a typical computer firstly, the iPad shows exactly this. I edit video(reels), music, photos and usdz. I also can ssh into any computer and type commands transfer files over server, on iPad and more. Literally everything my Mac can do. The problem is that the iPad doesn’t have the Mac workflow so for a lot of people they think it’s lacking in software, when in reality nobody is learning the software enough to fill that out. The simple fact you have to relearn something is what’s making people say this. I returned my Mac many many months ago because I know this workflow is the future. I use my m1 iPad to its whits ends. Just because some like to browse KZbin 24/7 or download a typical Mac program to feel “professional“ doesn’t make the iPad any less pro. Learn how to take advantage of the software and I guarantee you’ll feel different.
@techinrl98692 жыл бұрын
To KZbinrs, the only thing that will make an iPad “pro” is Final Cut Pro. Anything else and they’ll consider it a toy. If, and when Apple ever puts FCP on the iPad, you’ll find every last KZbin reviewer praise it to the skies as the pro-est pro machine there has ever been for pros. No FCP and the iPad is the worst device ever made to them. The funny thing is they keep saying the OS has to change when in reality all they want is one app. The form the OS takes is rather irrelevant. At least Greg admits what he really wants is FCP. The others just hint at it while trashing the iPad as non-pro.

Interesting discussion and perspective. I also use my M1 iPad for nearly everything, though I find that I turn to my M2 MacBook Air when I need to do things involving a lot of file management. The Mac OS Finder / Desktop functionality is harder to duplicate on the iPad. I also sometimes need to run an occasional Windows app for my business and the M2 MacBook with Parallels makes that a breeze. However, I have found that I can easily remote into my Mac from my iPad using Jump Desktop and perform those functions when needed. For me, the addition of the Magic Keyboard with trackpad support really turned the iPad into a more professional tool. I never thought Apple would add mouse / trackpad support, but they did. Stage Manager coupled with full screen external monitor support is another big jump for the iPad, and that is limited to M1 / M2 devices. I agree that many KZbin reviewers see “Pro” as video editing with Final Cut Pro. In reality, there are many pro users who are developers or business users that need desktop versions of productivity apps (with Macros and VB). I don’t think the answer is to simply port Mac OS to the iPad. Whenever I use Jump Desktop from my iPad, it effectively allows me to run Mac OS / Windows, etc. It’s great in a pinch, it is not the best for a touch first UI like iPad OS. I also think the future is a touch first UI - we just have to be patient with finding the best way to get there. In the meantime, it’s absolutely amazing to consider how much computing power can now be packaged in a fanless iPad case.

I’m an iPad Pro guy. My iPad sits on a stand on my desk and is connected to a dock and monitor at home. I do my work with track pad, keyboard and pencil on a 32” 4K screen. When it’s time to go to the office. I unplug the cable and put it into folio case. I drive to work get into my office. On my desk is the Magic Keyboard case. I pop it in there and I get to work. I do wish it allowed either external camera support or they had moved the camera, but center stage does decent enough. Then I have a meeting and presentation. So I disconnect from the keyboard pop on folio case and head to conference room. I sit and take notes with the pencil until it’s my turn. I head in up, AirPlay my ipad to the screen (sometimes have to use an iPad usb-c hud that clips to the side for HDMI connection) and start my presentation (if I’m doing graphs or slideshow I use Apple Watch to switch slides). All done I disconnect and go back to office pop on keyboard and continue thoughout the day. I have class that night so I take the keyboard with me and drive to school. I handwrite my notes, work on a paper with a group using collaboration features. My fiancé calls me so I pop in my AirPod pros and answer her FaceTime during the class break. I tell her I’ll order a pizza and pick it up on the way home. End call class starts back up and working along. I order the pizza and finish class. Grab the pizza and head home. Have dinner with my lovely partner and we chat about day and all. After dinner I go to my chair and pick a show and AirPlay it to the tv for my fiancé. I read the news or any interesting articles why the TV shows running. We chat a little bit more. I love my parents are FaceTime in me I answer we both talk to my parents for a bit and then I return to my home office plug into monitor and fire away a few end of day emails etc. I have a scotch, disconnect iPad and sit in my home office recliner and read a few chapters of a book of Apple Books or kindle or nook. Time for bed, plug in to the dock again and head to bed. It’s really a whatever I need computer. And I do not struggle to get things done. It works great in the corporate world, my law school, my home entertainment and my reading. I’m not sure what the rest of you are doing that you can’t use the device to do… But my very well paying corporate job runs smooth as hell off it and challenging law school doesn’t slow it down.

There were rumours of a redesigned ipad with a glass back, reverse wireless charging, an Apple Pencil 3, a bigger 14-inch version, thinner bezels, landscape oriented face-id and camera, a new magic keyboard with numeric pad, etc. They could also have upgraded the battery and given mini-led to the 11 inch model, but no, we just got an M2 and Apple Pencil (hover which is a software limitation not a hardware one).

I dont agree. Stage manager for ipad is genius interface design. I use macbook and i open lots of windows and windows do get lost behind each other. The philosophy behind stage manager is to avoid that situation where windows get lost behind each other which is why the limit they found was 4 windows and the window in the background keeps snapping to specific places where it remains visible. It’s necessary moreover for touch interface. Stage manager is really really good concept believe me.

They recognise that most people can’t afford to upgrade every year and I think they’re respecting that. By leaving the hardware as it is, the iPad that you bought in 2018 and spent a fortune on doesn’t look or feel outdated in 3years. ❤ them for that

It’s still a cool tablet , but just not much differentiations other than making a speedy device more speedier as far as the hardware goes from the previous model. A few more tweaks in the multitasking appears nice , but more are always appreciated.

This sums up my opinion entirely. There's nothing wrong with the hardware bump... this time. We've already opened the pandora's box of putting M chips in iPads and giving them 8 or 16 gigabytes of ram. I do question why the hell they bothered selling an M1 iPad Pro with 16gb of ram in the first place if they weren't going to do anything to make use of it. They could have put A series chips in the 2020 models, and 6gb of RAM, and the experience would have been identical for 99% of the users, and they could have made them significantly cheaper by doing so. And that's really the rub. Your experience on a 4th generation iPad Air or even a 2018 iPad Pro is not going to be meaningfully different than it would be on this M2 powered iPad Pro, because iPadOS simply can't max out the A12X in the 2018 iPad Pro let alone make proper use of an M2. Other than benchmark bragging rights, you really don't get much for all that power. I want to like the iPad Pro. I went out and bought a 1TB M1 iPad Pro in 2020, not for the storage (I don't even have 64G used), but rather for the 16GB of RAM on the hope/presumption that Apple putting that kind of power in the iPad meant they were going to release software that gave an iPad with those internals a reason to exist. I'm still waiting. So, it's not that the M2 iPad Pro is a terrible device. It is a great device. The software still sucks tho, and I just can't get excited about the hardware until they do something about the software. The sad thing is that I find my Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra more useful for doing things on, even tho the iPad Pro's internals blow it out of the water. Samsung has to deal with Android and Android developers that they have far less control of than Apple does their OS and developers, but they've still done 10x as much to make software to run on a premium tablet as compared to Apple.

I really wish the hover feature was something the incorporated into the system updates that come through, instead of having it just on this device. I feel like that would have been more beneficial. The upgrades made wouldn't warrant anyone to go out and upgrade their device, so I suppose it's just to have a "newer model" for the person who's in the market for their first iPad. Nothing really ground breaking for everyone else who most likely owns several Apple products already. I am curious about the iPad, vs the MacBooks now, seeing as how all you need is a keyboard and a mouse to pair up with the iPad and suddenly it's a whole computer Lol. At this point it isn't really about the best affordable option, but just having form factor options for portability.

Yes for the most part iPad Pro is just a spec bump with faster speed..... Get over it people! If you have an M1 iPad Pro why would you update in the first place? If you do not have an iPad Pro looking to purchase the largest screen size 12.9 inch. Why not purchase the latest, and greatest if you are looking for the fastest model? Now I just purchased an old 2017 12.9 inch iPad Pro with A10X Fusion chip FP32 768 GFLOPS, Retina Promotion display, TouchID which I like better than FaceID. Price for my 256GB WiFI was $ 449.00 (October 2022) on Amazon. Use my iPad Pro for content consumption. This size makes it great to read a book, and articles on the 12.9 inch screen. Almost the same as looking/reading a letter size piece of paper. That is what these old eyes where looking for.

Apple is more targeting to the new headset on WWDC. That s the main event this year. If you had an iPad from the previous generation. No reason to jump to the m2 models. Beside a little wifi improvement and a apple pencil change in the software with a more overclocked m1 as m2. Apple calls this. You buy twice the same device. First thing first, love the T-shirt, it’s awesome. And then I want to talk about my feeling of using the m2 iPad. I guess this gen of iPad is more fit for me type of person? My last iPad was the 9.7 iPad Pro largest storage, so you know, the 1st 1st gen. And I change it bc the ram now even have trouble to browsing. So I on purpose waited for m2 since I saw they decided to put it on pro. The software I do agree needs more compatible, but I guess one of the thing I like is the apps don’t require that much ram so my one purchase of the device can last longer. I do hate keep changing device. And then the hover, such a nice idea but as I drawing, I HATE IT. I guess just the function is too new, so when I use my vector drawing app, it can’t use it like I used to, it creates trouble. I have to close the hover to do drawing, and I just feel like it just looks cool, that all. And if I restart my iPad, the hover will become semi-on, in setting it’s off but in the drawing app it just on again. I have to go to the setting turn on and off again to make it work. The stage mgmt so far I didn’t use it much, but I do like it. For me, the awesome thing is now I can play the game on the side meanwhile do other stuff. Some of the games have those sick design that you have to open your app on the top and wait to finish. Now I don’t need to just silly waiting in there I can watch website or read a novel meanwhile the game still running. This just like in the pc. Helps me so much. So overall I still happy that I buy it. But if you already had a M1 Pro, I do agree that I don’t see a point to buy this one other than you want to collect or you just have to try.

The iPad Pro line has existed for a short time period in the great scheme of things, and compared to Windows and macOS it is a baby, when they are in middle age. Expecting the iPad to have thousands of pro apps is beyond incredible and really people seem to be living in fantasy land. The pro apps will come, 2-3 a year and will eventually get a good portfolio. But they will always be iPadOS, as Apple has said that macOS is NEVER coming to iPads. As for Apple releasing their own iPad Pro apps, there has been zero leaks that anything is in the pipeline, and with DaVinci coming soon, that suggests FCP may never arrive. As for the M2 hardware, it is fantastic, class-leading, and it seems crazy that we get such amazing tech and people are whining! It is expensive, as Apple always has been and likely always will, but with iPads all the way down to $350, complaining about price seems just like trolling. Get what you need or can afford. The iPad Pro 12.9 M3 will cost even more (rumour at least $200 extra) so get use to it. Your review was more balanced than many. I just think of the iPad line as a tablet, not a laptop replacement as some want; and I think the iPad Pros are just the best iPads you can get. I do not buy it and then complain that it does not have macOS apps, as I knew when I bought it, what it does, and it seems ridiculous to complain about something that is not there when you buy it. My usage case is when out on the road I use my iPad and then when I get home, it syncs to my Mac and I can finalise my daily work for distribution. It compliments my ecosystem.

It’s just the M1 to M2 isn’t that huge, but people got spoiled by the giant leap from Intel to M1 and are disappointed if they don’t get that annually. We can’t change from crap Intel processors to M-series every year. Skip three or four generations and you’ll definitely notice a difference. Tech isn’t meant to be upgraded every year unless you’re a KZbinr who by nature of the job has to buy every iteration or an enthusiast who just has money to burn. Companies are aware of that and plan accordingly expecting 4-5 year update cycles. Why do you think Apple keeps the same design language for approximately four years in a row for all of their products at a minimum? Apple isn’t expecting people who have M1 Max MBP’s to upgrade to M2 Max MBP’s, so there will be little difference.

I’m on the same boat, I feel that my battery doesn’t last long, but when it’s plugged in, I don’t have a problem for what I used it for. Sure, it would be nice to have an M1/M2 chip for better battery, better Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. But exports jobs are what, 30-45 seconds longer? I can deal with that for another year.

The issue is that people don't understand the product. It's not supposed to be a laptop replacement, Apple only made nods in that direction because of consumer demand. The point is that it's a drawing tablet. It's for artists and graphic designers as an alternative to a Wacom tablet. Of course anyone can buy it if they want, but it's not supposed to be for students who want one instead of a MacBook or for KZbinrs who want to edit videos on in. It's gotten more half baked "2-in-1" features over the years because people keep demanding them, but the target demographic has always been artists. If you're spending more money than a MacBook Air to use this device as a laptop replacement for laptop tasks, you are either very wealthy or very stupid.

I have the iPad Pro 2017 10.5 2nd generation , I had to replace the screen with a non-apple screen and the touch screen doesn’t always work. I can buy a 12.9 iPad M1 Pro for £1052 or buy the M2 for £1369. I worried about iOS support of the iPad as the 2021 version nearly 18 months old so, for an extra £317 I can buy the latest iPad and have longer IOS support. I’m not sure which one to buy.

This is an excellent "straight-up" video. Thank you, for talking about Apple's new M-2, iPad Pro models. I agree with you 100 percent when you said "why, have a M1/M2 laptop and also own an iPad Pro?". In 2022, you really do not need both. Almost everything that, an iPad Pro can do, you can also do on an Apple laptop. But, there are a lot of things you can do on an Apple laptop that, you still cannot do with any iPad model. The basic iPad models meet all of my needs and, just work great for me. Why? Because, I do not own an iPhone or modern Apple laptop, and still use Apple's "trash can" size 2014, Intel Mac Pro 8-core/ D700/ 64GB desktop. For myself, I have always felt that the iPad Pro models were, just for people to be able to show off that, they have enough money to own the very best iPad version. When in real life, what are they really doing different for me on my 9th generation basic iPad model with max RAM of 256GB and the data cell option (smile...smile).

@Jaquan Kelsor Well, you might be right. Because the rumor mill says that, Tim Cook took one look at the proposed new M1 Ultra Supreme tower Mac Pro design and said no, to its introduction. Which, is saying somethings since, we all know just how much Mr. Cook loves money (smile..smile).
