As a fabricator, I damn near died when I saw that box; absolutely gorgeous, whom ever the craftsman was, the things I would do to apprentice under them for just a week. And I imagine the scotch would be best served in a rocks glass with a single ice cube with a fine cigar after a perfectly grilled steak, relaxing by a fire place on a nice winters night.

Agreed. I design/build custom furniture and it's the first thing I noticed. The box is fucking gorgeous. There's more to it than what he shows. I've never seen one in person but there are pictures you can Google to see. It's a $120,000 USD. I wouldn't touch it even if I could get in the same space as one. Lol. I prefer to drink whiskey neat. But you'd definitely wanna set the mood while drinking it. Perfect Pittsburgh char on the steak, clear skies at dusk on New Year's Eve a 45-50* night , a couple of cigars, some chill music like Van Morrison on vinyl playing, with a few of the boys (friends, brother, father[in-law]).... Fucking'Aye.

Cat and dog sleeping at your feet on a nice rug made of skins from naturally passed Grizzly you honored by harvesting. Snow has built up a tad on the sill and reflecting the moonlight now. You stoke the fire and then stoke your cigar. Sit back down and take a sip. Ice cube has melted just so enough to dampen the mellow bite. Fire cracking decent again now. Cat stretches and you put your feet up and turn the page of your leatherbound novel. Relaxing finally. I always picture that scene when I think of what I would like in a room. Between that and a mountain cabin somewhere.

In general, the price of rare SM Scotch is a function of its scarcity, not necessarily its quality. While I am sure this is very excellent scotch, it is so expensive because there is not much of it left.

I was a bourbon whisky man when I still drank alcohol, but once I was given a bottle of Glenmorangie 25-year-old single malt scotch that at the time was about $375 USD, and it absolutely knocked my socks off. It was by far the best tasting, smoothest alcoholic drink I ever put to my lips. I can only imagine how nice this single malt scotch is.

That's not to say it isn't quality, but anyone with even 2 brain cells to knock together knows that quality isn't just a linear increase with price after a certain point. That price point IS higher than Jack Daniels which I can't stand, but dropping thousands on a bottle isn't necessary if quality/flavour is your owner concern. Good Whisky is good whisky, but if price and prestige is all you care about, then stick to wasting your money.

Example? I have worked in the business and I think it is training. Give someone who has never tasted wine a fine one and a bottom shelf one and there is no telling which one they will prefer, if they even notice a difference at all. The differences are in most cases subtle. Whisky is after all primarily whisky. It is the same with coffee, art, hifi … An untrained ear will not really pick up the difference between a $1000 and a $10 000 stereo, and definitely not between a 10k and a 20k. You must learn what to look for. And the higher up the price range the more subtle the differences. A very expensive and old wine is a collector’s item and not many would consider drinking it, likely it is not even very good. I have heard several renown whisky experts saying that whisky really does not benefit from more than about 20 years on the barrel.
