Today, we're going to take a look at a very nice pen kit from MachineEra which offers versatility, carryability, and environmental responsibility, all in a great form factor, the Fountain Kit.

I love the fact that Nick doesn't necessarily stick to knife reviews. It so refreshing and comfortable these days that I can often refer to this channel for watch and pen videos. :)

Ever since I saw the reveal of this I’ve been drooling over it, I’m so happy this review finally dropped. I recently lost my Classic, and have been debating on a replacement. Now I can have essentially a classic that I can use my favorite inks in? Fantastic! Thanks again for the review Nick

11:20 As far as flying with a fountain pen your safe if the pen is 100% full or obviously empty. The reason for this is what causes the ink to leak is the back preasure of air preasure changing, however you can't compress water which is basically all ink is. You can pressurize water like in a fire extinguisher but not compress it. So it's a problem of air bubbles changing size behind the ink pussing the ink out. Even worst case if the nib is up then air will escape without forcing out the majority of ink slight bubbles popping worth of ink is all you'd have.

Also, if you store it nib up the ink should settle to the bottom of the cartridge/converter/etc., so the only ink between the air pocket and the inside of the cap is whatever is in the feed, which should minimize the amount of leakage. I've heard plenty of stories of people flying with pens in all sorts of different ways, and having no problems.

@@spencer.watches very true it's the same principle that makes higher ink capacity pens be more prone to "burping". Say the noodlers neponest eye dropered, which may not make it through the tsa how many ounces is in your pen Sir? ;)

Environmental concerns were the reason why I decided to switch to fountain pens - really glad that Nick mentioned this one among other things.

After having the MachineEra classic for some time now, I prefer a EDC pen without a clip. I'll probably be getting this new kit at some point. Nice review

Im picking up the stainless version so I can blue it with a torch. Like the fire blue liliput, but better and less expensive. I tested it on the markup and it turned out amazing.

Love the idea of a rollerball running on fountain ink. Wouldn't the thin fountain ink cause leaking issues after a while? The fact that you got a leaky one makes me wonder if the tolerance needs on that ball are just too narrow to be realistic for regular wear. Or am I wrong in thinking rollerballs use a more viscous ink? I know it's much thinner than ballpoints, but for some reason thought it was thicker than fountain pens.

I switched to fountain because the oils from my hands get on the paper and then a rollerball will not work. Also signing receipts on a glass counter. The ball doesnt have anything to grab on to.

Have you considered a pen-sleeve, Nick? I think it'd side-step the cap issue you mention, and keep it from becoming an odd mass in your pocket.

These are nice. I wish they did mechanical pencils. I used to do a fair bit of drafting before cad took over so I love using pensils. Amyway what do you think of Olight's bolt action flashlight pen? I just preordered their new Olight OPEN 2 Copper from a sale (who knows when i'll get it because of the beer bug) as I was thinking it could maybe kill two birds with one stone in my edc. Plus it looks cool.😅 We'll see how heavy it is though. I don't know how comfortable it will be for writing with a flashlight hanging off the back.

Love the pen Nick. I'm curious if you know of a decent fountain pen that's on the heavy side. I'm left handed and find that a heavy pen gives me better nib control. On a side note, your voice puts my catahoula to sleep. Thank you for that, anything that calms him down is appreciated.😄

So, after watching this review, I mulled it over for a couple of days, and decided I would get one in brass, because, 1) I like the antibacterial properties, and 2) I'm a bit of a steampunk, so I will always choose brass, bronze, or copper over stainless for aesthetic reasons. And, of course, the brass ones are sold out. 😖 So, I'm waiting for the email to say they have them in stock again. *sigh*

Nick I need help!!! I am coming to you with a very specific issue I've encountered in the pen sphere and I am seeking some help from a more knowledgeable person... Is there a damn clicky pen in the market that actually DOES CLICK?! I keep seeing these beautifully machined ballpoint pens with these fancy schmancy mechanisms and ALL OF THEM are silent... What is a Parker Jotter afficionado to do if he wants a better quality/ hefty pen which actually produces a sound when clicked? I've looked at Karas, Machine Era, Schon design, Tactile turn, Hofestrkfrl (I have no idea of the spelling of that absurd german name) and more and the only decent 2 I could find are the Inventery mechanical pencil and pen switcharoo thingy and the Kaweco Special Ballpoint, sadly tho both of them contain plastic components, which at 50+€ of pen I would much rather avoid... Please oh Wise Nick help me out it is driving me insane... Obviously I'll accept suggestions from everyone else aswell 😁

Look at the bastion pen. It’s a bolt action pen that has some heft to it if you’re looking for a heavy pen. It’s also far from silent when using the mechanism.

@@motorboater211 in the words of Borat, "Very nice! I like!", but sadly not what I am looking for, I have a personal avversion towards "bolt action ANYTHING that is not a rifle" 🤣 If you know of any push button activation pens that click I am still looking and I am all ears 😁
