And also during the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries : - War of Robert the Frisian, when a guy who fought and tried to create his own realm in Frisia, Saxony and Galicia, decided to take the throne of the count of Flanders and rebel against the Crown - War of the Flemish succession, which was very big rebel time, succession war between 6 pretenders, civil war, feudal war, independence time, clans war, war between cities, political score-settling, guerilla and massive banditry in the Heuvelland (a region in the hinterland of Dunkirk, also known as the Mounts of Flanders, the Highlands of Flanders or simply the Hills or the Mountains), with huge chaos and I'm probably missing one or two things - Flanders War (known as the Franco-Flemish War in the United Kingdom), another rebellion because of taxes and because it is a big tradition to declare independence - Revolt of the Flemish peasants, another kind of independence war, but also a civil one and a social classes score-settling - First revolt of Ghent, by a guy who first wanted independence, but finally joined the English and swore allegiance to the English king (it was the Hundred Years War), before being assassinated because of that, leading to a civil war and another great moment of absolute chaos - Second revolt of Ghent, with another civil war (the step 2 of the First revolt actually) in Flanders and a rebellion inside of a rebellion inside of a rebellion inside of a war - Third revolt of Ghent, because of taxes and Burgundian rule - Revolts against Maximilian of Austria, because of Austrian rule - Fourth revolt of Ghent, because of taxes and Spaniard-Austrian rule - Dutch War of Independence, with, first, a Flemish support to the Dutch rebellion, and second, a Flemish rebellion against the Dutch provinces, with a bit of another civil conflict in Flanders, because of ideas of independence, taxes, religion and other things - Brabantine Revolution, in which Flanders was strongly involved, but finally decided to declare its own independence after two months, because, you know, another independence time - Failed Vendée of the North, an attempt to imitate the royalist revolt in Western France - Peasants' War, a kind of Vendée War in Flanders, but with an idea of independence, very classic here - Revolt in Nieppe forest, against military service and probably some issues about taxes

When the HRE joined I thought France would get steamrolled lol but it’s 1486.
@ephraimboateng52394 жыл бұрын
Ya, France was probably the most powerfull coutry in Europe up untill the German unification. The myth that france surenders all the time and that they have no army is bullshit. When your army gets decimated while protecting the evacuation of the british one, the only sound thing to do is surrender so that your people get sparred from more harm.(oblivously, the Nazis didn't care so they took "undesirable" french people also)
@scorpixel18664 жыл бұрын
The HRE was a power to be reckoned with, however the population advantage was completely one-sided for the kingdom of France until the XIXth century (Russia had gone ahead in total population around the 1750s already) which is partly why it progressively nibbled its way east, rarely losing even against frequent coalitions That and the western crown managing to push back feudalism and recentralize its power contrary to the eastern one who fragmented into a mess with Austria as the cherry on top

@NuukneinMapping4 жыл бұрын
@Primera Espada Go back to school, ignorant kid. We have won the most battles in Europe, and even when we were conquered once, it was the fault of Belgium who refused to expand the Maginot line in their country, to deter a German invasion. They tought they were capable of containing a german invasion... We always fought with our own soldiers, unlike certain countries who needed to rely on Hessian Mercenaries (Yes I'm pointing you Britain) to fight properly. And that immigrant things is totally false. Most ones today accept and adapt to the French culture, and most "Immigrants" people think of are 3rd or 4th generation ones who were born in France, raised in the French culture, and are loyal to the Republic and it's principles.
