As I understand, of the tricks is that when objects being glued together and activated, the contraption becomes a solid entity that obeys in-game physics and mod mechanics, therefore not being a part of the world structure, that's why it's so smooth and effective, yet there are downsides to it - collisions to the world are only detected in a few specific cases, otherwise being applied to the other entities only (e.g. trains are able to get through walls or lava with no problem until there is a path of one block wide to put the rails); redstone doesn't work within the contraption unless it's deactivated back to the world, as well as it behaving as a transparent object for an outside light (and the light from the contraption does not affects the environment respectively) . Yet it is still mind blowing and that's only a part of what this mode capable of.

the "chain" is just an auto-generated tether to show that the 2 carriages are connected
