+John I hope to get to Walt Disney World in August of 2022 for my 50th birthday, which may also be during a Golden Anniversary Celebration Disney is almost certain to pull all the stops for at Walt Disney World, since the 50th anniversary of the grand opening of Disney World would be October 1, 2021. Such a celebration is almost certain to last through 2022.

So do I. I was able to get to Disneyland a few times (including once for Grad Night) and just barely missed the Golden Anniversary celebrations there. (My last trip there was on Sept. 11, 2004 and they were beginning the process of sprucing the place for the Golden Anniversary celebrations.)

I was 6 in the summer of 1972, and got to go to WDW, and it was great.
@Uhfgood6 жыл бұрын
I had only been to WDW twice before moving down here to Central Florida. The first was probably about 1980 when we were set to go overseas (Dad was in the Air Force). So the one thing my Dad wanted to do before going overseas (for 4 years) was Disneyland. So we drive to Disneyland and we're in the parking lot and we open the door and what do we find? Water up to our ankles. It had been raining and practically flooding (very odd for CA). My Dad was so angry that we got back in the car and we drove all the way to WDW. Yes you read that correctly, we drove all the way across the country because my Dad was so angry that there was so much rain when we're set to go to Belgium for 4 years and he wanted to visit Disneyland. The only things I remember from this WDW trip was the signs (that Disney globe looking thing on the blue sign) and a hint of Pirates. Apparently the building that housed Pirates of the Caribbean in Disney World looked so different and alien to what I had known in Disneyland that I freaked out and would not go on it despite it being one of my favorite rides. So I'm about 4 or 5 and the building just looked creepy as heck. That's the only thing I remember from the trip. The next trip we took was in 1999 before they removed the sky-ride. I believe we got to ride Mr. Toad before they pulled that out. Now most of my memories of DW are from about 2015 until now (although not this year). I always enjoy watching these old views of the parks. It even reminds me of how Disneyland used to be. Thanks for posting this. One thing I never got to see was the original Journey Into Imagination seeing as it was built in I think 82 and they had changed the ride like almost the summer before we visited in 99. What they replaced it with is terrible in comparison. I wish they'd bring the original back. Now it looks like Epcot is going to get overhauled and so none of the original rides might be around anymore.

@cjs831727 жыл бұрын
I recorded most of them in, or around the year 2000, when the Disney Channel still had the late night classic programming block. I then took the liberties of doing a VHS-to-VHS recording, which allowed me to edit the commercial breaks out of the presentation (as well as use the 1970s opening for all the colorized episodes and specials), and after that, recorded them onto DVD, and it's from there that I began the process of ripping them onto the hard drive, from where I uploaded them. It's a complicated process. There were also episodes and specials, and this was one of them, where I simply downloaded it and uploaded on my channel, always crediting the original uploader, in that case.
@livyscrapbook7 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Wish they would still air specials like this on Disney channel today!
@cjs831727 жыл бұрын
I'll take that a step further. All the companies that own such classic programming and have such networks should create channels for such programming. It boggles my mind that Disney has never created a spin-off channel for it's classic programming, especially now since that includes not only all classic Disney programming, but also classic Marvel stuff, which they own the rights to, except the 1967 Fantastic Four series, which was created by Hanna-Barbera, and thus Time-Warner owns the rights to that program, but Disney owns the rights to all other Marvel cartoons. In addition, they also own the rights to the Star Wars franchise, and could air the two cartoons made in the 80s based off that franchise, but never has. In 2000, Cartoon Network did exactly that by creating the Boomerang network to air all the classic programming CN had in their vaults, including such classics as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Super Friends, etc., but they've sadly reduced the amount of classic programming on Boomerang. Then when one of the Discovery cable stations became The Hub in 2010, one of the main focuses of that channel was a classic programming block which included the 1960s Batman TV series and the Sunbow-Marvel series of the 1980s, such as G.I. Joe, The Transformers, and Jem, but as that channel changed to Discovery Family, less and less focus is being placed on classic programming, and the original Transformers series was removed from the lineup at the beginning of 2017, with Jem (which I never watched) having been removed previously. The Walt Disney Company also adversely affected the only sports network devoted to classic sporting events when ESPN Classic started to become another ESPN channel, instead of a channel devoted to the history of sports, as the founders of the Classic Sports Network had intended, and as ESPN continued to focus on classic sports programming the first few years after they acquired the Classic Sports Network, but over the last 5-7 years, it has become less and less a network for classic sporting events, though some of that has to do withe the fact that they no longer have the rights to show classic NFL GOTWs and other NFL programming that was once a staple of ESPN Classic, and along with the NFL, MLB, the NBA, and the NHL have launched their own TV networks, reducing the amount of classic programming ESPN Classic can show.
@livyscrapbook7 жыл бұрын
cjs83172 yes, I agree! They need to utilize their old masterpieces and bits of nostalgia for those of us who appreciate it while we're still around! I think they miss out by only focusing on the new- and they underestimate the adults who appreciate the character and classics of older Disney. A classics channel would be wonderful and I would most definitely watch

Much, if not all of this may also have been filmed before I was born. This was released in 1972, and I was born on the last day of August that year, so anything filmed prior to that was filmed before I was born, as well. Remember that Walt Disney World did not open until October 1, 1971. And if you can, I would check Disneyland out, as that was the original. I've been there about five times, including once for Grad Night in 1991, and it's an unforgettable experience.

@Emily-yl9oz5 жыл бұрын
kleeamd82 The water wasn’t clear then... The entire park is built on swampland, and despite their waterways being manmade, nature does what it wants. Florida is basically America’s Australia. They can only do so much to stop it. The water never was clean and clear, however. Think of it as lake water, which people also willingly swim in despite being relatively murky.
