I agre the rewind operation is among the last to stop functioning. I have four such A-3340S and only one of them has full functionality. But all can wind/rewind. Those made for the U.S market are fixed 120V/60Hz so if you live elsewhere best to hunt for the international version which can do all voltages and 50/60 Hz. Tape speed is governed by the mains frequency so for the U.S ones not simply a matter of getting an external 220/120V trafo. But those multi-size belt wheels is a key to conversion. They 3340S can be converted looking up spares on Ebay; but only a plan if you are the patient electronics repair guy.

Allow me to introduce a new unit of measurement for sound volume, which I call vovol* (abbreviated: volume voltage). THIS IS HOW IT WORKS: You use two pre-stages, one with positive volume values, and the other negative. For example, so has the pre-step with positive values a measurement from +0 decibels up to +20, while the one with negative values, has from -0 decibels down to -20 decibels. The highest voltage occurs when the value is +20 and -20 decibels (or: 20 vovol), while there is low voltage, when the value is on +0 and -0 decibels (or: 0 vovol). You can possibly also combine two different values with each other, by adjusting the value to +10 -20 vovol, which gives a crisper effect. Have experimented with this myself at work and at home. The adjustment can of course be set to taste. More information about Vovol: When the sound has high volume voltage, the speaker membrane is stretched like a guitar string, so that the sound becomes more sharper, realistic and noise-free. This can be achieved by using an equalizer with a preamp. First, all frequencies are lowered, to, for example, -12 decibels. Then you raise it up to +12 decibels, with a preamp. This is how I usually experiment, with vovol, because currently there are no tools, or apps, to do this. If you, or other who reading this, have an equalizer with a preamp, I think you should try it too. And thank you all for reading! :-) Great video!

Why did you put up the reel in reverse direction? The recorders always play the tape from left to right. In the video you rewinded the tape.
@GrimaldiSound
@GrimaldiSound 4 ай бұрын
Great question! You typically store tape tails out - meaning the end of the tape is on the right reel. When you take out of storage - to play or record onto the tape - you put it on and rewind it to the beginning of the tape!

@@lucaspipolo3076 this was just a guitar cabinet stand! It doesn't affect the motors as far as I'm concerned! They make specific stands for these that will allow you to change the angle at which it stands! I did eventually put this on a little end table to be vertical though!

Man they both have their pros and cons for sure! What sucks about outboard gear or analog equipment is that it breaks. What's great is it sounds great just about all the time! Plugins suck in the sense that there's 9 zillion things out there and half the plugins that "emulate" analog gear don't even sound close to the analog gear and people who never used analog gear think it does. There are some things that do a solid emulation but most don't really do the job IMHO - like tape emulation plugins. Literally none of them sound like tape to me. They all add this harsh brightness that tape just doesn't do. Plugins are great though because you can take them with you anywhere and load up sessions super quickly without recalling! I like working in a hybrid setting myself with a bit of both worlds! . . How do you like working!?
