It's one of the very few shows that get better with every season. Maybe with the exception of S4 which was still ok and had some great moments in it. S1 starts out bland though, it needs moments like the this episode's ending to hook you in. A lot of other scenes don't do much for it, are a bit boring and not all characters are likeable or engaging. It takes awhile before you're pissed you have to wait a week for the next one..

I'm still struggling to comprehend why the Normies abandoned this show. It boasts a fantastic premise and a satisfying conclusion. The story is filled with magic and fantasy, yet it somehow manages to maintain a sense of realism. I was so invested in the show that I even subscribed to their Patreon, but unfortunately, my request was denied.

The Magicians is one of the most underrated shows out there right now. This is a show that gets better with each season. I'm a big fan of this show, but I remember season 1 didn't exactly blow me away. Season 2 was much better. And season 3 is one of the best seasons of TV I've ever seen. If you stick it through season 1, you're definitely in for a treat.

@@jahseh8194 if you're into shows about magic then that's a plus. I'd highly recommend it regardless. The quality of the show does dip in the final season but that's because they knew they were about to be cancelled and had to shoehorn an ending to the show. I still stand by that season 3 and a lot of season 4 are some of the best TV I've seen. Don't take my word for it though, check it out for yourself!

I stopped after episode 1. Then picked it back up and made it to episode 4. I dont know how to describe it better than it is such a "tv drama" in the writing. If the crew keeps with it maybe I will watch with them, but it will take a bit to convince me that this show is good.

Normies beware of spoiler in reply to this below!!!! So episode 1 is a teenie tiny introduction to overall story. Yes it seems kind of formulaic/predictable at this point, I feel like its done intentionally for some reason to remind the audience of other shows/movies they love. But then the show delves deeper into its own world. Also- not surprised Chris didn't like it... it took 3 1/2 seasons for him to like AoS lol

biggest gripe by me is that the show doesn't really do magic the show is like more trying to work around it not trying to do it, good lord the season where magic is turned off made me the most mad, but i do like the characters so its sort of a they can be in whatever scenario and ill probably be entertained kind of thing

I would honestly say that Magicians definitely would crack my top 10 shows. The show does very much have it's occasional cliche, but it definitely throws in it's own original storytelling to outweigh its flaw. Would highly recommend you continue watching it.

You all should have continued on. The Magicians seems like it's Harry Potter... then you find out it's Narnia with Opium in the air. Or as it was originally sold to me "Harry Potter contemplates suicide, goes to Hogwarts, finds Narnia"

As someone who has watched S1 *14* times (and the other seasons on repeat) I would honestly be a patreon subscriber to see you guys react to S1-S5. It’s such an insane show from the writing, acting, special effects. This is without a doubt my #1 favorite show and has personally meant to so much to me. @@AbstraktZ it is! It starts a little tropey, magic school and all that, but quickly changes to be more fun urban fantasy fun. It does pull and inspired by like Narnia and Harry Potter but it is it's own beast. The show I think does a better job fleshing out side characters too. So it's just fun

Never clicked so fast! Hands down the best magical show. It *does* get deeper lol. The first season is a masterpiece. I think it's one of those shows that has something for everyone in it. Also Julia's story (Quentin's friend who got rejected from Brakebills) is in the second book but it happens concurrently with Quentin's story, so it's included in the first season of the show.

@@jaspertorres6698 Calling S4 a shitshow is harsh. It was weaker and 2 and 3, but still engaging enough and had a lot of high points. I'd give it a 6.5-7. I really hope S5 is as quality as 2 and 3 were and it's not the last of the show.

Nast33 the first half was def engaging but it falls apart in the second half so spectacularly badly that it sours the whole experience of season 4. Especially the finale. That episode just felt like the writers stroking their own dicks because "haha we subverted your expectations!" . Because tragedy and drama equate to good writing 🙄. That Aint It.

I hope you guys do continue with the show. Shit gets crazy. There's definitely some stuff in it that you will not have seen in any other show. And yes, at the moment it's fairly cliché. That's because the whole thing is a deconstruction of Harry Potter and Narnia. It's setting up the clichés to subvert them, expand on them, and take them in different directions. But more than anything it's fun, while still retaining drama. It can be laugh-out-loud funny one minute, and then heartbreaking the next. And the series 3 episode "A Life In The Day" is, in my opinion, the best episode of television to have aired in 2018.

This is a great show and if you stick around you'll know why they make sure to mention a version of "this is not a kids show". It gets real very fast once you get past the funny dialogues, especially because each season only has 13 episodes. Oh, and I forgot you mentioned *stereotypes.* I can't say too much but they _really_ go to town on calling them out in the funniest and/or weirdest ways possible...

Well, he was in a number of movies and had a lot of bit parts in a bunch of things after we see him in Lost (which is probably what Suraj probably remembers him most recently from), and then was in Z Nation (series regular in the 1st season, maybe the 2nd also can't remember, but only every-now-and-then in the latter ones if I recall), and was also series regular on The Man In The High Castle.
