It depends on what your goals are, and how sturdy your bag is. I've been using the same shopping bags for groceries since I moved out on my own, roughly 18 months ago. Instead of 200 plastic bags, my groceries during that time have been packaged in TWO reinforced recycled bags. That's a huge difference, and IMO if people started carrying sturdy reusable bags with them everywhere, we'd see less garbage in landfills and oceans and less petroleum&water used on manufacturing a throwaway item.

***** I'm unclear on what you mean by "it's rubbish." If you are saying you think this is a stupid video, I have to disagree. I mean mocumentaries might seem like a stupid thing, but really they are pretty hard to pull off, and are, in my opinion, comically genius considering the principle is to poke fun of something, make it funny, yet use documentary techniques so it needs to look serious, and the actors need to sound like they aren't in on it. This video I think was very well done, and it even had a promotional message in it.

+robert ocampo You dumbass, the Plastic Bag is a *sub-species* of the common Paper Bag. The key difference being the Plastic Bag is much quicker and agile as it is found in urban areas and must escape from the territory of any Foam Cups that they enter (As they are very aggressive if provoked.) The Paper Bag on the other hand, lives in forests where it can camouflage with surrounding trees.

I think banning plastic bags primarily raised awareness (although I have yet to find a study w/ proof of this, just have seen awareness spread from personal experience). It's a good step in the right direction, just not the end-all solution. Overall, people just haven't adopted the habits that will lead to a significant reduction in widespread plastic waste. If I use my resusable bag for 4 years and only have the option of getting paper when I forget it, that still amounts to X amount of plastic bags that won't ever end up in my hands. The ban is a bandaid. We need campaigns that meet people where they are and physically impact people in their daily lives. Most people won't make changes otherwise. We should be re-thinking all systems that still promote plastic use in other areas. E.g. using refillable containers at grocery stores or compostable or cloth bags for produce instead of plastic that's still there. Also, wonder what would happen if we taxed companies for using plastic when they could use something else?
