An organ isn't candy or something you can give away for free. It is an important part of you, your body. By donating one you're also putting your own body through things. You could also die. I wouldn't suck up to anyone but I'd appreciate and cherish that person dearly because I am alive and well because of them. Francia has a heart of gold to help her friend in that way and I hope that life blesses her with nothing but love, positivity and great opportunities in her life.

Organ donations have more stress when it’s between people that know each other. After giving a kidney, it can be frustrating if they are not managing their health to your standards and also frustrating if someone judging how you manage your health. Regardless, I don’t think it’s appropriate for the rest of us to be critical when none of us are the ones that gave Selena the kidney. The judgemental reactions reflect why there are so little available donors. ‘If I donated my kidney, I’d be pissed…” but you didn’t . How many people here are actually willing to donate? Too many people are comfortable with framing Selena as an ungrateful kidney stealer, based on suspicion. With that narrative, it would push more people away from donating. You don’t have to be perfect to keep living. Would y’all judge the relationship of regular people who have a transplant? When someone donates to save a life, they donate so that the other person can live their /own/ life. If you think that the other person owes you afterwards, that maybe you shouldn’t donate. It’s not like they can return that organ to you, if you don’t think that person deserves it. Francia can feel how she wants about her, but we don’t know enough about Selena’s health habits to judge her

I’ve been side-eyed Selena ever since I found out she guilt tripped her friend Francia Raisa into donating her kidney. At first I thought Francia voluntarily did that (without Selena hinting at her) so I looked at Selena at a whole different perspective. Like…she was damn shady for that. She had known Francia’s result before Francia did. She then called Francia and “happily” informed her that she was a match. Francia told this story in an interview and she said that she was taken aback. From Francia’s point of view, she didn’t really have any choices but to agree because Selena already knew she was a match and it would be extremely awkward for her to turn Selena down. For how much Francia went through for Selena, you would think Selena would be more appreciative of Francia and her kidney. Francia wasn’t even included in Selena’s documentary as far as I’m aware. Not to mention, Selena said Taylor was her only friend in the industry meanwhile Francia also exists and yes, she’s also in the industry. Idk man but I hope Selena gets herself together. Getting rid of her bad friends and actually value the rare good ones that she has.

Yes, Francia is so kind for even donating. As a former OR Nurse, there is a lot that goes on before a transplant and you have lots of limitations during the post-operative stage, everything could go wrong. It’s literally a life or death situation which her friend (Selena) took for granted, Francia literally risked her life for her to live and goes and does that?. In my opinion (I’m aloud to have one) it is a donation that should be worshipped for life, It’s a part of someone’s body.

Francia didn’t need to lose her kidney. It was said by doctors Francia had a much harder time recovering because she lost an organ she didn’t need to take out. To watch Selena go out and party after putting her body through all that for Selena hurt her to the core. Drinking after losing an organ from illness and now partying with a great friends kidney was hurtful for Francia to witness. Her journey her mother even spoke about was a long hard one to recover from. Selena recovered much faster sooner. To see her party being unhealthy was very hurtful after Francis put her body through all that. She even said her health and body isn’t the same. I can understand her frustration!

To give up an organ for a friend, an organ you don’t need to lose, I can imagine the frustration watching my friend go right back to the same behavioral patterns after going through what Francia herself said she endured , like needing help to walk and everything she couldn’t do herself. She had a harder recovery from what she explained. What her mother explained. Again none of us experienced any of this accept them and their close family. I too would be very upset had I put my body through all that to save my friend then o my to watch her go out drinking again. We all have our own thoughts on the situation. That’s totally ok.. I hope they have recovered from everything that transpired and are closer than ever . She saved Selena’s life! She’s a dope as friend/sister !!!

If anyone can speak on the Francia thing it’s me. I am a transplant recipient. I have an autoimmune disease that landed me in end stage organ failure with doctors in the hospital telling me I was about to die at any given moment at 25 years old. I needed a life-saving transplant as did Selena. The fact that she doesn’t regularly acknowledge/thank Francia disgusts me quite frankly. You don’t understand the agonizing pain involved in recovering from a transplant (if you even survive the surgery). It’s easier for a living donor, but it’s still a major surgery and a MAJOR sacrifice to donate a kidney. Kidneys and lungs are the hardest organs to get. You get placed on a waiting list normally and tons of people never get the organ in time and end up dying. An average of 22 people die every DAY waiting for an organ that never came. And I LIKE Selena, but I just really want people to understand the seriousness of this process.

I really don't even understand how Selena can do that to herself after a TRANSPLANT, I had a heart defect that got finally fixed and I couldn't do many things people do growing up like binge drinking, partying, energy drinks and alcohol because I could get life threatening arrhythmias easily, after my heart was fixed the surgeon told me to take good care of it and I do that, I didn't start doing crazy stuff because I'm so grateful to be healthy now and not having to worry about dropping dead suddenly.

I just watched the documentary and it was the most boring celebrity documentary I've ever seen. The editing was completely chaotic, I had no concept of time or continuity, there was absolutely no narrative or journey to follow along with. I didn't care to see her going back to her school, that dragged so much and I really wanted to fast forward. I commend how raw it was, but it was still carefully edited to portray her in a good light. She said she will share only her darkest secrets but obviously she didn't share any of them. Not that she should, but truth matters. She didn't talk about drug abuse which has to have been a part of her life with Justin. She's just so phenomenally self involved. She came across as ungrateful, self indulgent and narcissistic. I can't believe I'm even saying this because I like her music and have listened to her interviews recently and greatly appreciated what she has to say. This documentary made me see her in a completely new light that honestly shocked me. I am a filmmaker and film editer. I know what I'm seeing when it comes to creating a narrative and telling the story of a subject. This was a mess from beginning to end.

Also they never mention if Selena Gomez had two failing kidneys, it's extremely rare for both to fail at the same time. Usually one goes from alcohol adiction and the second is relied on after removal of the failing one. It's odd to me that they never state the condition of both of her kidneys, they just say that she has one that's failing. It almost feels like she must of had one fail years prior due to being an alcoholic cuz she never talks about what happened to her first kidney, why was her body rejecting the back up kidney?? I think this is the most accurate thing I read all day. Like of course before the surgery there must have been good intentions from both sides but something like that changes the dynamic big time. She literally gave her another chance at life. Francia was told before hand you’ll see Selena recover faster than you and it’ll change you forever. As soon as that kidney left her body it was no longer hers. She knew Sel was in and out of rehab beforehand. We all know addiction is very difficult to deal with, especially because Sel was dealing with mental health issues. In the doc it says after the transplant she had a psychotic break and had to be put into a mental hospital. There is so much more to the story and it’s so damaging to reduce it down to drama. It takes away the message of kindness that they both stand for at the end of the day.

I believe the issue Francis had was that Selena went back to doing all the things you’re not supposed to do when you have a kidney transplant (e.g., drugs, alcohol, etc.). I can’t blame her in this case. If I sacrificed for you and you’re basically crapping on my sacrifice and misusing the kidney, I’d be upset too. I could’ve kept it or saved it for someone who needed it. Mind you, Selena may not owe her something, but I’m sure Selena made a bunch of promises before Francia gave her that kidney. So, while Selena may not need to be forever grateful to Francia it must suck to have someone break a promise that deep and then say I only have one industry friend who’s high key a snake.

I don't get why she's a pop superstar either, girl can't sing at all. Watch any life performance that was not heavily edited in post, she's flat out HORRIBLE. And that with all the vocal training she has probably had in her life. Why choose something as your career you obviously have no talent for at all? I'm not a pop fan in general, I'm a metalhead mostly, but I acknowledge that there are current pop stars that can ACTUALLY sing, like Adele, Ariana Grande, Gaga, Selena Gomez is most definitely not one of them.
