Pretty sure Denzel would never have agreed to play a "black washed" character. Idris Elba did that two times first with Heimdall and then with Dark Tower. He should have put his foot down. Let’s not forget Shocker (Bokeem Woodbine) smh. When I first thought it was Logan-Marshall Green I was like “okay at least they kept all the villains their correct ethnicity” but when his character died and the mantle went to Bokeem, I was like “Are you fucking kidding me?!?” That’s 5 damn characters who’s ethnicities were changed for no reason whatsoever other than to tokenize! At least the first 5 Spiderman films didn’t have to go that route and they ALL excelled (financially) at the box-office, especially Raimi’s films where the ONLY main black character was Robbie Robertson (which he had VERY small parts in all three) but the films still excelled without having to tokenize ANYONE and NOBODY complained about the lack diversity in any of those movies!

Thor Ragnarok had an appearance of Valkyrie. There was a scene where the current character being valkyrie was being protected by a blonde character that was killed after a few moments of screen time. THAT was the Valkyrie from the comics. So, THE Valkyrie was replaced by A valkyrie.

Valkyrie is the starkest example, she's 6 foot tall, blonde and muscular in the comics. We got short and pettite, afro-mexican Tessa Thompson playing the cinematic version, such a hit and miss. Even worse, the Marvel interpretation wasn't even close to what they originally based their valkyrie on. In Norse/Germanic mythology Valkyrie are among the Disir, led by Freyja (which loosely means Lady). A Dis is maternal goddess who watches over and protects the folk like mothers defending their children. I fairly certain real Scandinavians and Germanics don't have black ancestral mothers.

War Machine, Misty Knight, Deathlok (agents of shield), Shuri, & Goliath have already appeared in the MCU. Although Misty and Deathlok have not been in the movies. Off the top of my head there is Bishop, Blue Marvel, miles morales, Night Thrasher, Rage, & Silhouette. There is also Brother Voodoo. They have already laid the seeds for his introduction. One of the sorcerers in Doctor Strange was his brother. They could still introduce Tom Foster who is a relative of Goliath. You are also forgetting villains. Technically Prowler has already been introduced.

(granted his character arc did have its differences of course) Before he was an member of the X-Men, he was apart of the Weapon X Program. Some real shit: Falcon in the comics wasnt very excited about being on The Avengers because he literally felt like a token member. He actually tells that to Cap, and says that he feels like that was the only reason he was there when being asked to come back. Then you've got Sam in the MCU, who has barely done anything but was given the mantle over Bucky (despite Bucky being redeemed by fighting against Thanos, having his mind fixed in wakanda, the fact that ALL of the Avengers were deemed outlaws during Infinity War for working with Steve Rogers, Bucky being the actual focus of multiple films, going back further with Steve than Sam, and literally foreshadowed to take the mantle as he had it before Sam in the comics and wielded it multiple times even before becoming the "Winter soldier" in the MCU. Sam only held the shield in like ONE deleted scene).... Comic book Sam would feel uncomfortable about all of this. You're free to like Sam (I do too), and you can think what you want about this but the raw reality is that they skipped over a lot of character development to make Falcon the next cap for diversity reasons, and to make a statement. This is obvious, and it isn't necessarily a bad thing but it would have been better progression if Bucky got the OG shield, and Sam first got that tech shield that Tony had been working on in his lab since at least Iron Man 2 (and possibly mentioned in Homecoming). The tech shield could eventually get broken during some battle and Bucky decides that his short run as Cap didn't feel right, so he gives Falcon the vibranium shield and mantle. This would have followed the progression of the comics a little closer, and we could see them as a team using both of their shields in cool ways while Falcon gets more character development and maybe even a personal villain. -and because I know people always scream racism about everything: I like Sam and want him to get the kind of character development other characters have gotten before he "evolves" into Cap. Also, I personally come from a mixed race and mixed culture family which gives me some perspective on this that many do not have. We can criticize the things we love and still love them.

Man, it is so refreshing to hear you speak about all these things. I subscribed not long ago, but every video of yours brings so much clarity. I didn't grow up with the comics and even now I don't really read most of them, so a lot of what I know about Marvel and DC comes from the movies and such, and usually I'm not as bothered because 9 times out of 10 I haven't read the comics. Still, you are entirely right about all this, and it's refreshing to see someone who does know his comic history and his comics speak about it and call the BS for what it is. I always felt conflicted with Nick Fury and Heimdall especially because I love Samuel Jackson and Idris Elba respectively, so I didn't mind the tokenism. But you're right that it is what it is, and it is unoriginal and usually not interesting.

The major issue as most of the popular loved characters have been around for 30+ years deep rich stories full of character. To add anyone now will take years to flesh out their story and develop their character so anything new is getting pissed on. I think originally comic books were for kids and early teens who do want characters they can dress us as and be like. Now there are grown adults wanting to dictate what comics should or shouldn't be based on there own childhood or the fact they want more adult complexity in characters.
