I remember going to the movie theater and seeing this movie with my cousin. I was absolutely Blown Away with the costumes and the cinematography at that time. That castle, that shadow and old Vlad creeped the crap out of me, particularly that scene with him crawling down the side of the castle wall. Still today, this is the best, most well made Dracula movie of all time! I've probably seen this movie about six times and I think I'm about to watch it again. 🦇🧛♂️

The origin of the Vampire is thought to have originated from George Gordon, 6th Lord Byron. He relayed the stories from The Balkans, mostly peasant folklore. The more glamorous, dangerous and sexual versions derived from Byron- his incredible effect of ladies...he was coined "Mad, bad and dangerous to know".

@Deanobucko917 I agree. People keep complaining that Draculas/vampires are not evil enough, not badass enough, that there shouldn't be attraction etc...but that's wrong, this one IS scary and twisted, but clasical vampires do use charm and seduction, mystery, to lure their prey.. besides that, there's always the element of being attracted to something or someone dangerous, unknown, mystical, dark. it's in human nature. And people don't you dare to compare Bram Stoker's Dracula to Twilight!

@JoshSitar I heard that even Francis Ford Coppola was kinda not too enthusiastic about casting Keanu as Jonathan but he wanted a character that the girls would scream and go after, someone young so he casted Keanu

The worst part of this film has a name... Keanu Reeves. His performance was unbelievable at best, laughable at worst. His inclusion was as tragic of a mistake as when Coppola hired Sophia Coppola to play Andy Garcia's love interest in Godfather III.

Vlad the Impaler was definitely a freaking sadist and a psychopath. Who impales innocent little birds as a means of entertainment??? Who can eat breakfast while looking out onto a field of decaying, impaled human bodies??? Thank God people can't get away with that type of behavior in this modern society. . . .at least not openly.

It's also important to remember that Vladimir was handed over to his country's enemies as a hostage for that country's good behavior, and he was very cruelly treated. His brother was with him as well. Only, Vladimir was eventually returned, and his brother had become attached to the enemy. Vladimir found that in order to protect his people, he had to become a monster.

No it isn't. There is no love story between Mina and Dracula in Bram Stoker's story, and most of Gary Oldman's scenes in the second half of the film never happen in the novel. Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula, is about Jonathan and Mina Harker, not Count Dracula. The adaptation that was closest to the novel was the 1977 BBC version with Louis Jordan.
@artandcard2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. While I do appreciate Coppola's inclusion of naming the characters the same as in the book and the artistry, the addition of the not-in-book tragic love story, with Mina being a willing lover, lessens Stoker's intent of Dracula being an evil manipulator who sexually assaults Mina. Mina is a pure soul with devotion to Jonathan, and the unsung hero who helps put all the pieces together.
