Dale and Buzz are a force. They did 50 states in 50 days, and the only time they canceled a show (to my knowledge) was the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011. It takes a natural disaster to stop these guys.

Still producing heavy sludgy records, and releasing the behind the scenes the day of release, nothing beats Melvin’s. Can’t wait to see you again in August!

I listened to available tracks on youtube for the first time today. I'm always a latecomer to new Melvins releases. Still, better late than never. I enjoy it and will be ordering the record and a couple shirts at some point over the next month. I see music like I see a painting. Some paintings interest me, and some don't. some paintings have unique facets (like light in an edward hopper ) that one may see independently in other painters at the same time or creep up later in time with other artists. Dimensions of influence. I'm not sure how I would classify this record. While thoughts of sonic youth and early butthole surfers popped into my head on my first listen, i don't think it was really pervasive through the songs. We probably just compare what it new with what we've experienced or maybe we have aural pattern recognition. my brain enjoyed what I was hearing. that's what matters. it was more than enjoyment too. I sat there wondering where it was going to go. sudden changes by instruments came in and took it the music somewhere. almost like in a jazz band where an instrument will sort of take over the song or maybe guide the momentum of the song for a bit. sort of like riding your bikes with your buddies when you were a kid and everyone taking a turn at being the leader, jumping off curbs etc. I will probably give it a good daily listen for a while. It's arguable that the jam concept of recording isn't new. I'm pretty sure we can all accept that. My understanding is that the record was a jam, a deconstruction of a jam to mine the gems and the rewriting of guitar parts. I'm not sure how much that has happened in recording history in the way the album was made. appears pretty pioneering in my opinion. I listen to the melvins here and there. I'm in the pacific northwest and in my fifth decade. I've been aware of them for a long time and have seen them live a few times. Additionally i have seen the dale crover band open for redd kross. Usually, it's billy fish that gets me happenin in terms of a melvins binge that lasts a month every year. It's worth spending a bit of money to support this band. I also recommend to anyone out there to explore this band alone and with headphones on. it will be weird and awkward and dissonant and tension filled at times. It will also be melodic with beauty and slay in a rocking way. I'm not even sure I get the Melvins. They are a band that I pay attention to. They are a band that I continue to "get around to checking out". I'm not sure what i even expect from the melvins. I had a fantasy of wanting to contact them and see if I could pay them for 2 jam sessions and they could help take my bedroom simple guitar rock to another place. sort of like if i painted a rothko and they had brushes to paint onto the same canvas and take it somewhere. Melvins could probably even do a "backing band" EP for musicians out there if anything good came out of such a thing.
