The making of the Bronze Star and other military medals

Ever wonder what goes into the making of military medals such as the Medal of Honor or Bronze Star? It's a lot more work than most people might think. We take a look at Graco Awards in Tomball, Tx., which just recently got a government contract for an order for about 10,000 Bronze Stars. The company believes the last few MOHs awarded may have been manufactured at their facility. (C.J. Lin/Stars and Stripes)

Our victory cross in Australia are made from the captured guns off the Turks from WW1 only enough to make 500 or so more as the brits use it too.

So bronze star isn't really bronze? Isn't bronze mostly copper with a little bit of tin?

ElGatoLoco698 , Yes it is. So I guess you can call it sort of bronze, but yea it's mostly copper. Bronze I guess sounds alot better than copper star.

It's in reference to the color of the metal, not it's composition. Likewise, the silver star is not made of silver.

The quality is far, far less then the quality of the medals produced from other manufactures in the past. It's a shame that the quality has suffered compared to medals produced.
