Mate, you just solved my entire visor issue. It's been killing me for the last month and in finding this vid you have answered my questions in full. I hope I can make mine work like yours has. Thank you

Are you able to see clearly through the visor after the Ipoly and the chromated paint?? Can we see some pics?? Great tutorial! I'm going to make the halo 3 armor and this is really helpful, thanks!

how well does petg stand up to scratches, also can you seal the visor so that moisture and water doesn't destroy the dye or chrome. I don't have a sprayer, can I brush on the chrome or will it not come out right
@DanielBignoux9 жыл бұрын
buzz lightyear it handles like most plastics so scratches can be buffed out. I have done some testing and a very light clear coat is a no go, the visor becomes foggy and all you see is a range of dark shadows. As for moisture its handles quite well since i sold a helmet 2 years ago and i has bee used at comic-cons and still going strong, since the visor isnt a glove it shouldn't be handle that much. If the chrome does come off just spray another coat. the paint is an airbrush paint but there is another product that is in a spray can form. look up spaz stix mirror chrome spray, its slightly better then alclad but more expensive.

How much would a finished visor cost from you?

I don't suppose you have a 3d print stl file for the visor? I printed and built the Big_Red_Frog version of the halo 4 helmet. The Buck for the visor there is a smooth visor and I need the actual one with the indentions. I love the way your visor looks. I'm not proficient with 3d modeling myself. What I thought might work was taking the existing STL for the buck on thingiverse and overlaying a 3d model and getting the shape that way... but I have no clue on how to do that.
@DanielBignoux8 жыл бұрын
The visor buck in this video was made out of bondo I used the inside of a cooking pot to get the curve and carved in the details by hand, then molded casted ect. My current visor is fitted to my helmet it wasn't made to be universal. Keep practicing with modeling, It took me a solid 2 weeks before I started my first model (and that was the needler). If your going to model it remember to hit the save button, I couldn't tell you the amount of times my computer crashed and I didn't save my work.

@DanielBignoux9 жыл бұрын
Mitchell Lamb I do not know i have never used that product before. By looking at some google pics of it i'd say it will not do the job better than alclad or spazstix chrome

I'm doing an odst helmet can u do a tutorial on how to dye an odst visor
@DanielBignoux9 жыл бұрын
+creeperkillers05 Its virtually the same concept as i did mine but different colour and alot stronger dye. Do the same I did but use dark blue or black dye depending on look, and 10min baths until you reach the colour you want for your visors. You can spray slightly the inside of the odst visor if you want a chrome effect.
@DylanN8749 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks

+Daniel Bignoux also remember not to make the bath too hot otherwise it will warp, do a test so you don't wreak your visor!!!

Hey I had an idea for a helmet from a game I played the beta for and i noticed when i came back to play it, I had a helmet made for beta players, and the mask part is kinda like metal with some scratches in it even some one scratched the word beta into it lol and I was wondering if you would have an idea how to have on one side clear glass like, not glass but something like a clear plastic, but on the outside look flat metal ish (or just plastic ) and have the scratches in it, but still be able to see though it normal while wearing it, and the rest of the helmet figured could just 3d print, but yeah if you know how or know any one that knows that stuff, if you can show me like a link to something that could help, (heres just as a representation vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/blacklight/images/f/f2/BLR_BetaHelmet.gif/revision/latest?cb=20120328094944&path-prefix=de ) (fyi posted this on another channel this is just a copy and past lol )

After a failed test batch in witch the hexagons came out to small, we now have hex decals available to the community, They are located in the description. Your welcome. Now hex your visor!!! This is so beautiful! Is there any other way to spray paint it? I don't have an airbrush... maybe with those sprays.. that are used to spray the flowers with water lol? But instead to be filled with that paint.. do you think it would work? xD
@DanielBignoux8 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't work but google "spaz stix ultimate mirror chrome aerosol paint" its more reflective then alclad but being an aerosol you would have to do very thin coats. If you spray it on too thick you would not be able to see through it
@sinister_rogue8 жыл бұрын
Allright, if I use the aerosol one should I color my visor with another paint before that as well? Like the one that you boiled :D
@DanielBignoux8 жыл бұрын
that also wouldn't work, it would make your visor very blurry and will not be able to see through it. But with dye you can colour it what ever colour you want.
@sinister_rogue8 жыл бұрын
so the only way is the way you did it?

yes, its alot cheaper compared to purchasing all of the equipment for hydro chroming.

@roserichardson94806 жыл бұрын
Late (very late), but if you have access to plywood, a drill, and a strong vacuum cleaner, you can improvise your own vacforming table.
@lucidnightmare9278 жыл бұрын
Are you selling those visors unpainted?
@DanielBignoux8 жыл бұрын
No, my current visor buck is fitted to my latest helmet and i'd rather not sell it separately as it may not fit other helmets.

Its clear 2mm PETG plastic, it is best to look around as it might be cheaper if you buy locally.

Daniel Bignoux Do you think Vacuum forming will work on a clay mold with a hardened putty on top which forms the visor. hopefully it wouldn't melt. lol
