Love the creepy creature! I'd be spooked into a nervous shock if I ever saw something like this walking around outside at night!

Thanks for sharing the BTS for this. I was excited to hear you used a GH4 as that's what I'm shooting with as well. Looking to put together my first horror short before Halloween. Looking forward to watching more of your channel.

I used to have a GH4. For night shoots I would never push it past 800 iSO, but one thing I did was put the metering mode to SPOT meter. Its much better at night. As long as I had sufficient light at what I was filming, for me, it was mini documentaries. l'd invest in NeatVideo. Even the pro's in major studios use some sort of professional noise reducing software. I use NeatVideo and it works fantastic! This video is very inspiring. Thank you!

I'm not sure if you'll see this, but this video really helped me. Also I loved Moonlight Man. My question for you is, what shotgun mic did you use? And did you record the audio separately or did you still have the audio running through the camera? Thanks!

Hi Harley! Glad it helped you. I used a Sennheiser ME66 with a Zoom H4N recorder. Did not pipe anything into the camera because it's simply not designed to record great audio. I did keep the camera's onboard audio track for a scratch track (just for reference and to help sync in post) but didn't use any of it in the edit because the quality is noticeably worse. I've also heard the Rode NTG2 is a decent mic for the price, but never actually used one myself -- only Sennheisers so far. Hope that helps!

I like the idea of a blue light, really does add a 'cliche horror movie vibe' like suspenseful music and the obvious 'jerk character who is gonna be killed first' (Like Money from Don't Breathe)
@dannyfdonahue

I kind of wanted it to harken back to the visual aesthetic of films like John Carpenter's Halloween, and the blue fill definitely helped that. It's also kind of a traditional "theatrical" lighting choice. Amber keys and blue fills -- pretty standard for stage lighting.

Danny is it possible to make a tutorial on how you made the creature blink? Or send me in the right direction of a video that had helped you learn? Would love to learn how to do this

Sounds crazy but do you think its possible to do a feature in this way, with your own DIY shoulder rig with the camera and mic? Great stuff btw, it's amazing what creativity can produce when there's a lack of budget!
@dannyfdonahue
@dannyfdonahue 7 жыл бұрын
Sure it's definitely possible, it just means that the feature would have to work in some specific perimeters. This rig setup really limits where your sound is being captured from -- it's all coming from straight in front of the camera, which is less that ideal for lots of scenarios. That said, one could perhaps use that to effect. Thanks, glad you liked my stuff!

I actually meant for other inspiring film makers out there. You've produced such spectacular work with almost nothing. While things like, I don't have the money, crew, equipment, etc. can be valid reasons, you've kinda' made them look like they might be excuses in some cases. Just sayin' :)

+Greg Jones oh gotcha - yeah absolutely! That stuff will stand in your way for as long as you let it. It stood in my way for years, and then one day (with a lot of encouragement from my girlfriend) decided that I shouldn't care about whether or not my set looked like a professional set, or whether or not I had crew or lots of equipment. I decided to just work with the few things I had and focus on making that work on camera. It's made all the difference. Definitely go out and just start filming if you want to do this stuff.

Hello again! So you use a Zoom recorder. Do you recommend it? I'm looking at the H4N or H6. Thanks! Btw, I've watched all your videos so you have a new fan!
@dannyfdonahue

Hey thanks! Yes I would recommend it. Easy to use and has served me well. Don't know about H6, but it's probably good too. More channels I think. People also like Tascam recorders, but I haven't used one myself so far.

@dannyfdonahue
@dannyfdonahue 6 жыл бұрын
Dreamwakr Channel Well the best option is to get a recorder and mic and record sound separately to sync with your footage later in post. I used a Zoom H4N with an ME66 mic

Danny Donahue thanks for reply have ? How can you record sound separate sync to iPhone without transfering files to computer I just have iPhone. thanks!
@dannyfdonahue
@dannyfdonahue 6 жыл бұрын
Dreamwakr Channel Well there might not be a way to do that. Not sure. Might have to just deal with iPhone mic. I think you can maybe buy a better mic to use on an iPhone though. Not sure how that works with video.
