Yeah, I think the head was scarier and its move was more natural. The frame moving monster was rather animated-like, reminded me of Evil Dead.
@dannyfdonahue8 жыл бұрын
Yeah it took some trial and error, but the head ended up being a more convincing and simpler solution. Thanks for checking it out!

Practical effects are always top in my book. Very well made here, and the film gave me chills.

I watched this because I was scared by the actual film! So good job! Anyway watching the behind the scenes details and the effort that went into the making of this film both made me feel better and appreciate what you did. I know the whole point of these films is to scare the viewer but I'm glad there is this to make me feel less frightened! I also totally agree that the creature coming through the door fitted the story better and it looked a lot creepier.

Yeah, in a way I wish it had worked out because there was a lot about the shot that I really liked -- just didn't have quite the punch I thought the last shot needed so I had to sacrifice it.

Gotta say this was so great. Even better seeing the different ideas you played with before coming up with the terrifying ending that made the cut.
@dannyfdonahue7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This one was definitely a longer process than usual to get to the final design, but it was also a rewarding experience to see it finally work the way I wanted it to after all the trial and error.
@andrewsampfer15497 жыл бұрын
Well it was worth the trial and error because the final production was truly terrifying. Less is more with these films this nailed it. I hope to see more from you. This is no joke I have not been afraid of a film since "IT" when I was a child. Or even 'Pet Cemetery" once again childhood. Congrats.

Super cool! In the final cut the head looks massive. I thought it was the size of the door!
@dannyfdonahue8 жыл бұрын
And I was worried it would look tiny. It's a little smaller than a normal adult human head and with the wide angle lens I figured it would feel really little, but without much else to reference in frame, it worked out nicely.

Great creature designs. I've been experimenting with stop motion, too. I think I'll just have to accept that it won't look completely natural and embrace it. Anyhow, fantastic job all around!
@dannyfdonahue8 жыл бұрын
Hey thank you! Yeah I love stop motion and a part of me wishes it was still used for mainstream visual effects. Unfortunately it didn't really work out for me here, but maybe I'll get to use it down the road. Good luck with yours!
@SuaatanaTube8 жыл бұрын
Stop motion is beautiful when done exactly right, and I think it is the most difficult form of cinematography to get right or even close to right. Puppets are more expressive and because they can be manipulated they are easier to use. I may not know a lot about techniques but I think the first and second ideas were solid, but I probably would not have thought about the idea of using the door and fading out of the darkness to get the quick ''shock-n-awe'' effect. But if I had to work with the stop motion with your first idea I would have done this: 1: When The Whisperer (Abomination) appears into the shot the lighting should have slightly dimmed to make the presence feel more enhanced. 2: I would have made The Whisperer way taller. I would have gone with abnormal tall in this case and have it stand near the corner. The Whisperer of my vision would have been tall enough for its back to hit the upper corner and ceiling in the room while rest of its torso would have been pressed against the ceiling and its head would have loomed over the bed while extending its arm for an attack. 3: I would have lowered the angle of the shot to make point 2 to be possible, the camera could have almost hugged the floor in this case and pointed more upwards to capture more of the ceiling. It would give The Whisperer a feeling of it being absolutely massive and looming presence. But I am really happy for you guys did it in the end. Being more subtle was way more beneficial in this case.

Omg man. You are very talented with an eclectic skillset that I wish I had. I've always had a wide interest in sculpting and doing makeup for masks or props such as that. Any particular way you learned? Did you go to school for it?
@dannyfdonahue7 жыл бұрын
For the most part I've had no formal art training and just figured this stuff out on my own. In this case I chose clay because it was a medium I had worked with before, but for later films, like The Moonlight Man, I did take a week long class on mask making with industry legend Jordu Schell. It was a lot of fun and really informative, and if you're interested in that kind of thing it's definitely worth looking into his classes etc.

Amazing! How did you do the teeth chatter animation on the short at the end?
@PeterPoulosCreative8 жыл бұрын
So awesome. As a indie maker myself how did you animate the jaw at the end?
@dannyfdonahue8 жыл бұрын
I duplicated the footage on itself in After Effects and masked around the jaw so only that element was visible on top of the already existing clip. At this point it looked exactly the same as the original footage. Then I animated slight rotation of that masked image with its center point at the jaw's "hinge" so that it appear to open and shut, and put some black behind it (for the black space in the gap of the opened mouth - otherwise the mouth would open and reveal the shut teeth of the original clip behind it.)
@PeterPoulosCreative8 жыл бұрын
+Danny Donahue ah very simple then, thanks for the reply! That little jaw click really adds so much to the overall shot, Great work.

Yes, the thing at the door worked. Also, for that amount of time. A second? The first two creepies you made -- all the work you put into them. Can you use them for a later film? I just hate seeing something that good go to waste.

I have an idea so her neighbour is realy noisy so she goes to her house late at night it's like 1 am she knocks on the door and then suddenly somthing or someone but we dont see who onley the out side of the door is hissing and whispering and scratching eventually she leaves thinking that its nothing goes back to her house goes to sleep then wakes up to hear the same whispering thinks nothing of it until she sees a lump in her bed so she pulls the covers back and then this tall skinny creature runs out from the bed into the closet terrified the women hides under the bed then the monster comes out from the closet looks around the stands with its feet right at the bed the the monster drops starts making unbearable noises and well she ded. And that's my idea let me know what u think here bud
