The Rescuers Down Under IS an extraordinary film! It was my favorite adventure film when growing up, and I still love it to this day. I can't believe it's underrated; it's awesome!

+joyunicycle I agree completely!! Everything about this film was done with outstanding excellence. It's such a shame it never got the recognition it deserves. In my opinion, it is because the original was not nearly as good so people never gave this one a chance.

+Steven L I actually think it should be in "Kingdom Hearts" now that I think of it. You know, Sora and company helping Penny escape from the clutches of Madam Medusa with Bernard and Bianca? Who doesn't want to see that?

joyunicycle It was originally supposed to be released August 3,1990, but since Ghost was doing so great at the Box Office, they decided to reissue Snow White instead and hold off on releasing Rescuers Down Under until the Holiday Season believing their only competition would be Rocky 5. Neither MGM/UA nor Disney suspected a Holiday Hurricane called “Hurricane Home Alone” that was about to hit. This little Holiday Family Comedy opened the same weekend as both films and DROWNED out both Rocky and The Rescuers Down Under. When Katzenberg saw the opening weekend returns, he immediately cried uncle and pulled advertising of the film and begin cutting down on the theaters playing it.

I loved this film. A rare phenomenon in that Disney actually managed to pull off a really great sequel that even actually stands alone as a solo film in it's own right! I love The Rescuers Down Under, and hey about time Australia, some of it's scenery, culture, accents, and animals were used! What few people will fully appreciate is all the beautiful colours used in this film, Australia has such richness of tone in it's different colours in the earth the mountains the cliffs and rocks the landscape throughout this vast wilderness is truly breathtaking! I'm still amused by the pilot announcement on the plane I was on, having a window seat and being my first flight to Australia I was so keen to look at all the scenery from London England right across the world via the route taken, but I knew we were flying over Australia before the announcement because the depth of the Red colour in the earth is unique to Australia it's so beautiful. So I knew that we were above Australian land before the announcement. I spent several weeks in Australia and the flora and fauna can't be beaten!

I miss disney old films, not only the 2d artstyle looks more appealing to me but their sequels were soooooooo GOOD! Unique villian design, they actually look terrifying, amazing scenery and shots. Like nowadays they make all the characters look like elsa-_- amd and the sequel is often foreseen.... Disney misses the magic that those movies used to have.

It is a shame this film has never gotten the recognition that it clearly earned and deserves. Professionally it is on the same level as Beauty and the Beast as well as The Lion King. However, the first rescuers was not nearly as well done ... so I think people were not willing to give this one a chance. Also, Home Alone also came out in 1990 which added some very stiff competition.
@PredatorBrendan
@PredatorBrendan 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, It seemed so. Well, many things in that movie were pretty good, including the flight scenes with that eagle, the animation and such. McLeach was a damn good villain and George C. Scott did a good job to voice him on it. It just that the first Rescuers wasn't the best, which I think that's the reason why it didn't do too good in the box office. I liked the original part of the story, just not too keen on the rescue mission part since it is like The Rescuers in the way.

I think you forgot to actually mention that this is rare, that Disney actually produced a really great sequel with superb characters, good storyline and superb animation and colours full stop! The scenery, and colours captured in this are breathtaking and so accurate, same goes for the accents. Shame they've not used Australia and all it has to offer again!

EmmanuelleLunada2010 Blame Home Alone. It was a Box Office Tsunami that wiped out all competition. Honestly, Disney miscalculated. The film was supposed to be released in August of 1990, but instead they decided to reissue Snow White, Simply put, Nobody not even Disney saw the Home Alone Hurricane that roared in that November. UA/MGM was so caught off guard by Home Alone’s Stunning Phenomenal Success, they pulled Rocky 5 out of theaters after just a month.

NO! Releasing old cartoon movies in 3D means they must fiddle too much with the image, ruining the charm of the original animation. They ruined Beauty and The Beast with that crap, the animation looks so cheap in the bluray release, not due to it being to revealing, but they had to do alot with making the animated pop out against the background for the 3D to work. Makes it look like it was drawn in MS Paint.
