1) Build houses close to each other to save space and not loose citizens' time for traveling around. For instance, you can build 4 houses with exit to the one side and 4 to the opposite side. 2) Try to catch around 5-10 animals of each type. They will birth faster. Do not increase you population unit you are sure that you have enough hay. 3) Put your piles outside the walls. You will save the space inside and will use less resources for the building. 4) The best way to feed your villagers is domestic animals. But first you should have fields with barley to provide enough hay. 5) Do not touch bears. They almost are not attacking you, but they are killing wolfs, lions and hyenas. Even if bear attack you, you can run from them and it will not go after your villagers. 6) Goats are useless after the cooper age. Sheeps are providing wool which is expensive. Sheeps are producing more wool than you need for yours villagers if you have them more than your villagers. Also, this is good source of skins and meat. You will not need milk from goats because you will have enough meat. 7) Build stables by groups of 2 close to each other with entrances to the opposite sides. 8) Build large monolithic structures outside the walls. They are large and use a lot of useful space inside. 9) Build bridges where your villagers cross the rivers. 10) Buy new technologies from traders using the wool after the cooper age. See point 6 11) Set animals limits and your villagers will automatically kill the rest. 12) Do not set continuous production of biface when you are able to make knives and flint sickles. This is much more effective tools and you have to save your flint - this is limited resource. Also, do not product wooden harpoons and spears if you can make them from bones. Wooden tools are too basic. 13) Remove continuous production of leather and skin outfits when you are able to do outfits from wool and flax

A tip I would give as only a week player that has failed several times. Don’t rush into new eras until you feel settled. Get your wood walls up before jumping into the copper era to help be a bit more prepared. Also, when you domesticated animals forget about goats and go right for sheep. Have only one stable and 8-10 sheep. Anything over is slaughtered and you shouldn’t bother with cows until you have a massive settlement with tons of straw stocked up. Cows EAT SO MUCH STRAW so if you plan on building new homes. Do that first, save up on straw, get only a few cows. They are insane in the winter.
@mast3r346 Жыл бұрын
its more efficient to survive just on meat (no grain bread at all) if you have low population and 150 animals,even works in neolithic era. this tactic maximizes welfare of citizens and attracts bigger migration due to low workload

one item to produce long after it is outdated is the bone harpoon,.. the bone resource pool you will find as you progress in the tech tree isn't used for anything much BUT the trader will buy bone harpoons for a good price even as you move into flint and slightly beyond.
@MarkGFL5 жыл бұрын
Thats a good tip. You almost always have plenty of bones around.
@TheBeardedFrogSage4 жыл бұрын
And it's a cheap source of fishing spears. So is wood. You don't really need the higher materials. Same with bifaces and bone knives. You can wait the few extra seconds. Save your flint and higher for combat weapons.

The stats are the same for flint or bone sickle…that’s what I went by. However the bone knife harvest twice as fast as biface, but if have the production time, they can be sold as extra.

Beware that placing small structures like Totem poles in small spaces between buildings can actually block a main route. It is very easily to end up with an extremely inefficient pathing system among your central buildings if you do this. It's actually better to leave a little bit of space here and there rather than be as compact as possible.
@nareshbura59335 жыл бұрын
I have two tips. When you are in earlier ages and workload is very low gather about 300-400 logs so when you upgrade and need logs for plaside, you don't need to go out to forest. 2nd with trader, if you are fast enough you can buy twice from one traider. Its like, when the trader arrives traid fast what you want, now exit, and again select the traider very fast. It works and the traider is refilled with same items as earlier.
@MarkGFL5 жыл бұрын
Thats a handy tip about the logs. And I didn't know you could do that with the trader, I'll have to try it - thanks!

At the start, set multiple stick collecting areas with a limit of 100. Build 3 crafters and set wooden harpoons to infinite. Switch to bone harpoons in Neolithic. Buy all the food, straw, leather, tannin, dry skins, flint (or ore/ingots) and outfits you can. If food is not regularly spoiling, you don't have enough food.

@@MarkGFL yes, sorry. I forgot to mention that. It's an easy way to keep up on the basics. There's also a useful exploit, you can re-trade with the trader before they walk away. I made the mistake you mentioned at the beginning where I had too many settlers when I reached the Neolithic period and just started farming and the hunting areas were empty of animals and found for the first time I was running short of food. This covers a lot the only thing as a new player I had run into and had to figure out on my own was how gate placement and managing works! It is a little confusing at first which way you're meant to face the doors and the arrow when placing them but I found that either way really does not matter in the end as you can manually mark where you want your villagers to gather in an emergency with the circle and sword marker. So whether the doors open inward or outward is really more of your own personal choice. Personally my main gates I that are the most defended I prefer having my warriors gather just outside the gate to defend it with all my archers inside the gate!

I have found that - with no gates (or walls) my villagers will congregate near the house closest to the expected raider attack. So I put a few towers (I start with two and increase as my settlement grows) where I know the raiders come through, and a single house alongside them, so when the alarm sounds the towers are manned and all the other armed sims rush to the area they'll be needed.

Disease on crops is PR. FIELD, so just make many small lines of fields 1x5, the reason you want one type of crop is because hay is the most problematic resource to get enough of to feed large herds of animals, so you want all barley fields. One note though donkey/horse attached to a cart doesn't count as animals that require stable space. Animals doesn't use a pregnancy system, so you can all male flocks and still gain animals.
@LethalOwl11 ай бұрын
Dated tip, regarding the field diseases. They will affect multiple fields if you have more fields of the same crop. Making fields smaller is a terribly inefficient use of space, too. You lose a tile’s worth of farming space for each row you decide not to use. Best idea is to nake 5x5 or not at all, unless you’re desperate.

On defenses, the wooden platforms are very important as they will allow your defenders to use their bows from inside the walls. Put your towers just behind those. The first level supports 2 troops per section and 3 upon upgrade. That can really mess up even large raider attacks.

One more thing; I was so happy to learn about this game. I had been waiting for Ancient Cities for forever and it seems to be in a four year limbo AND there was a great possibility I might have to get a new computer to play it. This game was a great compromise and a totally addicting game. Do you have any idea what happened to Ancient Cities??? I play a little Universim too. It took them a long time to get the ball rolling, but now they are pretty much doing everything they said they were going to do, maybe AC has a similar thing going on.

I've never heard of Ancient Cities, but like you I'm really glad I stumbled across Dawn of Man. I think they've just released a combat update for it that I really should go and check out.

A fun experiment is to go "Vegan", it's painful at the front end, no hunting, no fishing, later no domestication, the only meat & skins you will get is from animal attacks watch your people die of starvation & the elements. things will improve when you get Grain & Pulses gathering and Thatching then again at crop farming and Masonry, late game if you trade for wool you can be ahead of the curve since you are not wasting resources on animals and can have skipped entire lines of Tech and since you are not hunting or fishing folks are freed up for other jobs. an other thing is to go Carnivore, no food gathering just hunting, fishing & industrial gathering, you will have so much Meat & Skins you won't know what to do with them, skip Plant techs till you need them to back fill to unlock other techs, gather Grain for straw for building trade away the food component and later grain farming for Straw and to feed you food animals. you will have a strong early and mid game but will be doing lots of micromanagement of Hunting & Herds in the late game and one mismanages season can cost you scores of people that will take you years to recover from. Building tip upgrade asap, pick houses and stores in need of repair first since fewer people will be using them and you wont disrupt the housing market. on crops don't monoculture a field plant varying rows of grains and pulses, when you get pulses domestication plant some new fields strait away then that first winter rip up your grain fields and alternate Grains & Pulses, don't grow the same crop within two rows of each other, you will blight proof your crop based food supply chain.

You didn't mention managing welfare. Is there any way to hit perfect welfare?
@MarkGFL5 жыл бұрын
I don't know about perfect, but building lots and lots of spiritual structures (all kinds) helps, plus lots of beer to keep morale up. Other than that just make sure you have enough housing, food and proper clothes. Oh and don't overwork - ie set more workload than your people can manage.
@mast3r346 Жыл бұрын
@canadian hobit regarding maxing welfare you have to minimize work load below 50%-30%

You forgot the most important tip! If you play for 16h per day and club enough seals, you will receive a free tier 8 premium cash cow that secretes APCR tipped spears that can penetrate and 1 shot a mammoth. You can also buy these cows in the premium shop for $100.... oh no wait, I think I'm confusing with a traumatic game we used to play long time ago, what was it called again... Russian bias or something...

I only had a couple people starve on my first playthrough. If your people aren't working on the right tasks, your number of assigned tasks might be too high.
@cece63364 жыл бұрын
Ruben Hayk ive noticed that they starve even with a ton of food because there is work done far from the food storages. If they leave hungry then they come back starving and usually too tired to run home.

Even when tasks are low and I have priorities set they mainly do what they want unless I manually tell them to do something. They're pretty worthless at taking care of themselves.

Only issue I’m having so far, is w fishing. Hell, I’d be thrilled to be the one that just has to fish all day long but these guys are either lazy or suck at it cuz I never have nuff fish. I am heartily stocked w fishing gear so that isn’t it. I even tried to micro manage but 🤷🏻♀️ Cannot wait for the netting 🤦🏻♀️

my tip NEVER assign a hunting area because if a mammoth goes into said area the area will send 1 guy to hunt it and then well you know the outcome...

Setting something to high priority DOES not reset current tasks, they will finish what they are doing before choosing a new task where high priority matters.

But it makes sure repetitive tasks get done first in future.

Is there an efficient way to select and/or slaughter all of my old animals without trying to fuckin hunt them down one at a time?
@MarkGFL5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure of a better way, but if you double-click on an animal it will select all of that type visible on the screen. From there you can see which are the old ones in the group. Its not idea, but I found it a little helpful.

DOUBLE UP ON WALLS! Takes longer to break and Sometimes theirs a bugged wall that people can walk through. Games great, but has a few annoying bugs like people not using platforms.
@mast3r346 Жыл бұрын
its useless,takes resources and time ,just place house(gathering point) and change defense options to 0% melee, you will kill raiders easily even in iron age ,just have at minimum 100 population and same ammount of bows(op weapon)
@marke3628 Жыл бұрын
@@mast3r346 in some of my larger cities the people go to the wrong entrance sometimes and they get through. The double walls get them distracted alittle longer while people slowly get killed and replaced by other parts of the city. Double stone walls are a good investment for larger cities to have a fighting chance especially on ancient warriors when you're more worried about feeding a growing population without stretching the city out too far and the attacks are more a nuisance that could turn into a lack of workers to grow food turning into a mass starvation event haha
@steeneugenpoulsen81745 жыл бұрын
You NEVER WANT storage outside the walls, because carts goes back to storage, so when the raiders come they kill all your donkey/horses.
@MarkGFL5 жыл бұрын
Can't say I ever saw that happen.
@akuleet60295 жыл бұрын
I think they did that a few times although I mostly use sheep for the wool and micro my hunting during low workloads but if you place the storage right near the gates/walls where there's towers they should pull aggro away from the raiders and they likely won't go for the animals then.

Statistically, foraging and fishing keeps me alive, and the animals starve. Or eat grain, and get factory farmed. I want my herder option, and a more specialized tech tree. Human culture was NOT cookie cutter. I hope this game is called death of cookie cutter. Instead of Dawn of Man. Because I should have just played Warcraft III.
