My main problem with the text-to-speech voice is that it’s monotonous. No inflection. It gets to be much. But I do sympathize. I have a (separate) KZbin channel, and recording and editing audio is exhausting and often is the main barrier to making videos. Good change.

@The Chad Yes, I actually think Sawyer said it first in ‘The Long Con’, and it became a theme of the show going forward (people being conned into believing things were their idea). But Ben later tells Locke a similar thing in ‘Cabin Fever’ about making Hurley think coming along was his idea. Ben and Sawyer use the same techniques, as does the Man in Black.

Your real voice is much better. You’re still British so it’s similar and still has that classy air to it (I’m an uhmerikan) I’ve watched some of the older ones all the way through but have stopped many half way after getting annoyed with the voice. 20 mins in I just rip out my earbuds while I’m listening doing chores or whatever because I’m like “ugh what am I doing listening to a computer!?” So I really do appreciate the voice reveal.

I've only recently found your channel so I'm going through the backlog. While doing so I thought I would do my part to drive up engagement by commenting whenever possible. Having said that, I came across the text-to-speech narration earlier and was immediately turned off...primarily because I had already grown to love the dulcet tones of your actual voice haha. After watching this and hearing your explanation, it made sense why you did it....and if the voices hadn't already been ruined by a multitude of terrible KZbin channels using the text-to-speech option I'd say it might have even been a GOOD idea. But alas, such is not the world we live in, and I'm VERY glad you decided to do your own narration!

So, you will have already seen the superior versions of these old videos anyway. Unlike the Oceanic Six, you have no need to go back, so to speak! I share a similar story to yours! My kids were all newborns/toddlers/preschoolers when Lost first aired. I didn’t have the time or the energy to watch ANYTHING during that era! Years later, my hubby binge watched the entire series when he was temporarily living in another city for work. And then finally, like your story, he convinced me to watch it with him during the 2020 lockdown!! I was actually hooked after the pilot ~ the cinematic quality grabbed me immediately! He refused to spoil anything for me, which was great. I remember the chills I got the first time they showed the hatch with the word QUARANTINE on it!😱So much like actual reality at that time. I’ve now watched the entire series 3 times, and each time I notice something new. Thanks for your videos ~ I’ve enjoyed solving some of the show’s mysteries!

Dammit!!! I was sure you were Damon Lindelof...idk if you remember bur I think I was the first person to suggest it 😆😆😆😂😂😂 I appreciate the time you take to make these videos. I actually met my current gf a year ago and we've been slowly but surely making our way through the show. She's enjoying it so far. The coolest thing is she grew up in Hawaii and has a lot of personal connections to many of the shoot locations. We visited just last week and went to Camp Erdman where the Dharma cabins and the beach are. Crazy enough it's also where she went to band camp for many years growing up. We both just sat and reminisced...me about Lost and her about her high school years. It truly felt as if our paths were always connected just like the characters. :) Btw did you know the Dharma cabins have been repainted blue!?

I was actually thinking of your comments when talking about "not being Damon Lindelof" in this video. Part of me felt sad to take that mystery and speculation off the table. But I hope it doesn't deter fans from sticking with the channel. I love your story btw. How cool that your gf actually spent time at "the barracks" before they were used in the show. She has actual memories of going there in her youth. As if she were part of the Initiative! Amazing stuff! I had heard they painted the DHARMA houses blue. I guess they had their reasons for the redesign, but it's a shame the iconic look has been altered. I planned to go out there at some point in the next few years to do a tour of the locations, and that was one of the key places I was keen to see. I'm thankful that they haven't demolished that site and built condos there or something. Fans can still visit it, which is great.

I'm impressed that you were still able to enhance my understanding of Lost even further just as a fellow fan. Respect! And yeah it's super cool! She actually remembers a day when they closed off some of the cabins because Lost was shooting there that day. So cool! It's still a functioning YMCA camp. Probably won't ever get condos in our lifetime. The north shore tends to stay pretty rustic and minimal which is good. Oahu locals are pretty protective of their land so I think it'll probly stay that way. :) Make sure you put the Spitting Caves on your list of places to see. The rocks where the final showdown takes place and also seen breifly in "Abandoned" and "Confirmed Dead". Pretty neat spot. Me and the gf are starting a youtube channel and we're using that location on our channel page rn! @@LOSTEXPLAINED108 can we just discuss for a minute the one negative aspect about this show? the fact that they seemingly just start throwing random shit together after about season 2 or 3, i get the time loop thing, mostly just talking about individual choices of characters and such, but by the end of the show literally nothing they seem to do matters. the final episode is literally just them running all around the island, mind you, to places that used to take days to get to in about 20 minutes, oh shit let’s get to the plane no can’t take the plane let’s get to the sub oh shit the sub is sinkin let’s get to the boat ahh shit no we gotta go back to the plane wait i gotta put the cork back in hold up.

Great that there is more to come. Regarding candidates, on the lists the is only the last name mentioned. Could it mean that it might cover several family members? Kwons is one example but possibly it could mean that someone`s ancestor had also been a candidate. As an example Ray Shepherd could had been on the island during 50`s with US army.

I like your thinking! But the names on the lighthouse dial seem to be specific to the people chosen at the time. Because once a candidate is killed or no longer eligible, their name gets crossed off. Shepherd doesn't appear to have ever been crossed off previously, which means it was only ever intended to be Jack. Also, Ray was still alive off-island, which means had MiB succeeded in killing all of the candidates on-island, then the candidate power would have deferred back to Ray. And it is made fairly clear that the remaining candidates on the island in season six are the very last batch from Jacob's list. But I love the idea that Ray might have been on the island with the U.S. Army during the 1950s!

I love the videos. Keep them coming. Im sure there are many different angles to explore still. I will always see David as Jack and Kate's kid. My big question is about when Jack and company traveled to 1977. Hurley asks Miles how come adult Ben didnt recognize Sayid as the one who shot him. How could Sayid have always existed in 1977 as an adult when he was a 10 year old in Iraq at the same time. Im guessing its a time loop and theres no explanation beyond that. I guessed that Ben was shot initially back in the real 1977 when it first happened we just dont know by who and then when they time traveled it became that Sayid was the one who shot him. But then all the stuff with Daniel being shot and Eloise having his journal to refer to later when raising him confuses it. Help!!

I believe Ben doesn't recognize Sayid because when Richard takes Ben to heal him, he warns them the process will change Ben and he won't remember what happened. As far as older Sayid and 10yo Sayid existing in 1977...not a loop, as explained by the Miles/Hurley time travel discussion, just like all the others where during some time jumps there's older and younger versions existing at the same time. Time jumping Locke sees the hatch lighting up in the distance (where his slightly younger version was pounding on it), time jump Sawyer sees Claire giving birth from months earlier, etc. Whatever happened, happened.

Your «The theory of everything» video introduced me to your channel. Your «Why you should watch LOST» video made me subscribe. Your personal voice it much easier to listen to. (I see where you are coming from. Privacy and anonymity is one of my most important things.) That being said: I am looking forward to watching more videos. Your videos are satisfying to watch because I was always the type of fan, that would watch the show and had nobody to talk about. They became the missing piece to understand and appreciate the last two seasons. The first time I watched LOST, it was dubbed in German, but through reactions I got used to the original English. The community is much bigger in English and I became a part of it.

Great to see the new direction for your channel. I found your Theory of Everything analysis after deciding to rewatch the show for the first time since it originally aired and genuinely feel your video is pretty much essential viewing for understanding the finale and some of the point that weren’t fully explained in the show itself. The way you connected the flash sideways plot and the source, how you explained the mythology and the way the island works managed to solidify a lot of the points that didn’t fully land the first time. I do feel that if it wasn’t for the automated voice, that video would (and should) have gotten far more love on the algorithm. While I didn’t have too much of an issue with it, I do feel having an actual voice narrating ads some more validity to the content. Definitely here for what you do next, Lost is without a doubt one of the finest pieces of tv ever produced and your content is a real contribution to that legacy.

That's music to my ears! Thank you. :-) Ultimately, my main hope is to do justice to the legacy of the show and enrich the mythology for fans (and maybe convert a few cynics along the way)! I agree completely with you on the automated voice being a barrier to views and overall accessibility. Hence why I decided it was time for a rethink on my approach. Thanks for your great work. I just subscribed at the $2 tier. I hope you’ll begin your episode-by-episode videos! I’ve seen most of the show at least 10 times, and I understand a lot but there are big holes you’ve helped me fill in with a layer of concrete. Mostly it’s just a blast to keep watching the show and analyzing it and seeing others do the same. The way I see it, we can either be frustrated that certain aspects of the story are not better explained, or embrace that it leaves open a mystery to try and piece together. And I have always focused on the latter when it comes to LOST.

Thank you for this channel. I have to admit I’m one of those people who has been down on season 6, and still am after doing a re-watch. Despite that, I’ve always told people they should watch it because overall it was a great show. I even convinced my wife to watch it, which turned into my re-watch. The questions that I’ve still had, you’ve done a good job of providing missed details. I think the biggest twist is finding out the text to speech wasn't done because you had terrible mic quality, lol. The TTS was certainly jarring at first and I could totally see that alienating someone. That said I made it through the entire six hour video and eventually I got used to it. Definitely happy you're moving forward with your real voice though.

Hello, I have just recently watched this video. I am usually late with everything! I love the computer activated voice and I love your real voice. It’s all good. I too did not watch Lost when it first came out. I remember driving into work one morning and on the radio they were talking about the finale of Lost and how so many people were complaining about it and I remember thinking ha ha I didn’t watch it so I don’t care! It was only maybe in 2015 or 16 that I was looking for something to watch on Netflix and I tried Lost. I was hooked from the moment I saw Vincent anything to do with not hurting animals I will watch it. And I am happy to report that I loved the finale. What a perfect way to end an amazing show. From the first episode, my favorite character was John Locke, there was something so special about him, especially sitting on the ground while it was pouring and just looking as though he was so thankful for every single miracle that had happened. And I think I knew that he had been paralysed, or at least he could not walk before they ever showed that he was in a wheelchair. And when that wonderful episode came out with the shock of him being in a wheelchair in Australia, wanting to do the walkabout, I remember crying and thinking I knew it I just knew it! I also watched Lost over and over again through the years, I even started making charts showing who knew who before, during and after and sideways of the plane crash! But I did nothing compared to what You have done and what You have given me! I cry every time I watch one of your videos, (I am a big crier, too sensitive, too emotional) but it’s how Lost and how your videos have made me feel. I am so thankful to you. If you read this, I was wondering if you can do another video on Desmond he is actually one of my favourite characters as well and I just feel that love plays a bigger role in the Lost universe than anyone realises. And you may have done more videos on Desmond. I haven’t gotten through all your videos thank goodness I hope to spend a long long time doing so! Also, and I apologise if you have answered this question, but I did watch your video on Henry Gail and I don’t remember if you answered what was Ben’s real plan before he got sidetracked by Henry Gail? I think you may have said that he was trying to watch Jack and his interactions with everyone else, but couldn’t have just done that safely in one of the hatches with the monitors? I felt the same way - John Locke was my favourite character right from the start! The Walkabout episode is what made me fall in love with the show. I'd never seen anything like it before on TV. I'm incredibly flattered and happy to hear that you find these videos rewarding too, with the text-to-speech voice or my real voice. To answer your questions, I've made a couple of videos on Desmond. There is one that deals with his flashes of the future, which is the last Desmond-centric video I made. Here's the link to that one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3-ZhauVqKaLbac As for the Henry Gale question, I don't think he ever intended to get caught in Rousseau's trap and I don't think he ever intended to end up at the Oceanic camp. His plan was always to use Michael to lure out Jack, Kate and Sawyer (which The Others fulfil in his absence) and for Michael to bring them to him. There was nothing to be gained from getting taken prisoner, other than potential death. He already knew what he needed to know about Jack (and his vulnerable pressure points) just from observing him from The Pearl station monitors. Ben didn't need to infiltrate the hatch to learn anything more. His capture was entirely unforeseen and unexpected. He was improvising his way through that situation the whole time, which is why The Others are forced to piggyback on the original Michael plan and get Michael to break Ben out too. I can’t begin to explain who thankful I am that you made this channel. This channel has made me appreciate lost so much more than I ever had. My biggest problem with the showrunners was that they left too much things ambiguous and that bothered me. Why should I have to watch the show a second time and watch KZbin videos to understand the show. Ironically now with a second viewing of the show and mostly with your videos I’m no longer lost about the shows meaning or explanations. Every breakdown you have of the show makes sense it’s credible and truthful. I have a clearer of the show thanks to you. I’d love to see analysis of other shows like breaking bad. By adding multiple shows to this channel it would make it grow exponentially. The lost community is alive and well but it’s a niche community, I doubt that it would push this channel to million subs. But hey who knows I could be wrong.

That is the most I could ever hope for from doing this 🙂 Secondly, I absolutely get what you mean about analysing and explaining LOST potentially appealing to only a niche audience on KZbin. At the same time, the channel is seeing some healthy growth and the fan base for the show is fairly substantial. I don’t plan nor expect to ever hit a million subs tbh. I just want to cultivate good content for LOST fans looking for this kind of thing. As much as I love many other shows, I don’t have nearly the same amount of in depth knowledge or as much to say about them as I do with this one. By focusing solely on LOST I can make exciting content for that particular fan base and focus on building the channel around that. I’ve planned content into the foreseeable future and will not be running out of things to talk about or explore anytime soon. As long as some of my subscribers keep liking and sharing the videos then I think the channel will continue to grow. 👍

I’ve seen most if not all lost explained videos on KZbin in the past and Without a shadow of a doubt no one explains lost better than you. I’m not a KZbinr but I’ve been watching KZbin for a long time and I’ve seen several small channels grow. You certainly have the seeds for major success.

Now that would be an epic video! I do plan to -- at some point -- make a video all about the changes I would have made to the show if I had the power. Mostly small details but a few big narrative adjustments. Most of these changes would fall within those last three seasons too. Nothing spectacularly different, but to give an example: I have a very specific alternative way that both Walt and Rousseau's respective story arcs could have concluded. I look forward to sharing my thoughts on those. So, you will someday get your wish on a video like that!

It's gonna be nice to finally hear "Sayid" pronounced correctly ;) Back in the 2010s, amongt the biggest "Lost explanation"-videos out there was this horrible Reetae Reviews Lost-thing (username now is Velodus) with horrible research, taking things out of context and claiming things as facts (when they never happened). Even though those videos have tens of thousands of views, your channel has more subscribers. So the growth of your channel might encourage more people to get into the show while the other review gets forgotten over the years. In my own "LOST Journeys" videos I have made theories and explanations for the lockdown and Henry Gale, so I am very much looking forward to your take

Yes, I am aware of the Reetae reviews and I have the same problems with them as you do. They were made in bad faith by a former fan who clearly felt scorned by the series. But he has perpetuated some terrible myths about the show, which I am trying to combat on here. I consider several of my answers on this channel to be direct repudiations to some of his material. And yes, Sayid was a nightmare to get the text-to-speech voice to pronounce. I ended up having to spell it phonetically just so the voice could get an approximation of the pronunciation 😂 Anyway, all change ahead!

I have a question! In the episode “Greatest Hits” Desmond tells Charlie he had a “flash” of Claire and Aaron getting on a helicopter that leaves the island, but that it would only happen if Charlie died. That’s why Charlie decided to sacrifice himself. But why did Desmond have that flash when that isn’t what happens? Aaron leaves on a helicopter but Claire doesn’t. It kind of makes Charlie’s death feel like it was for nothing. Or if not for nothing, it wasn’t what he thought it was for.
