Its not the worst but like joe said be fair to ep9 this is also just bad writing for stuff to happen.

There were very very few groups of mandalorian soldiers during the clone wars, with the helmet design and the armor color very high chance of it being deathwatch

The idea is to have a less-rigid space where other creators and authors and the like can have room to experiment with the Star Wars IP without having to worry about adhering to very strict canon lore and stymieing oversight from the people in charge of the IP - that benefits the creators for obvious reasons, but the ability to pick and choose popular or promising content from the EU to 'canonize' is beneficial to the people in charge of the IP - it lets them keep their hands free while still producing marketable material. That's the whole point - you can't make the EU canon, in its entirety - because it often conflicts with itself in multiple places, and a lot of the material is also sub-par - that's a side-effect of the benefit of the EU - they can't all be zingers. That said, Filoni knows his SW - but the dude has serious enmity from me for making Grievous a fucking joke and retconning his superior original backstory because "he was too sympathetic" (because we can't have sympathetic villains.... IN FUCKING *STAR WARS)* so y'know - his track-record isn't perfect by any means. The dude has a Plo Koon fetish, he's only human.

Those “Regular Mandalorians” have Deathwatch insignias. At first, their leader, Pre Vizla (Who was voiced by Faverau in Clone Wars) was loyal to Count Dooku, it is established Vizla and Dooku had a falling out, so when Darth Maul returned, he entered into an uneasy alliance with Deathwatch. It ended with Vizla being killed by Darth Maul and half of Deathwatch swearing allegiance to Maul, while the rest, who wear blue armor, rebel against Maul’s rule. The Deathwatch members loyal to Maul painted their armor red. In Solo, Dryden Voss has red Mandalorian armor on display in his office, which is how I called Darth Maul being the true leader of Crimson Dawn and why that movie was a guilty pleasure for me.
