Q: Is your Electricity Bill outrageous?
A: No. The whole show is on a smart plug that turns on right before the show starts and turns off after it's done. Everything is LED lighting. It increases the bill a few dollars, but the Christmas Tree in the house pulls more electricity than this show does.
Q: Don't your neighbors hate you?
A: No. I checked with each of them before it started running (been running for 6 years now) and none of them mind it. Most of them actually tell me how much they love it. There is no house across the street, so no one is getting this blasted right in to their windows. We live in a pretty small town, so the traffic isn't a problem night-to-night.
Q: Don't you hate having to listen to this on a loop (and don't your neighbors hate listening to it constantly)?
A: No. The sound is broadcast through an FM Transmitter only. If you stand in the yard, it is silent. I also only run it from 5pm to 10pm each night (not all night).
Q: Why do this? This isn't anything to do with Christmas.
A: Yes, I have realized that. 2020 sucked. I really liked this theme song and wanted to do something that brought a smile to people's faces. This was the canvas I had, so I decided to visualize the theme song.
Q: How do you do this?
A: 1. The lights are RGB LED's (mostly bullet pixels, some square pixels - WS2811 pixels with IP68 water-proof rating) from Ray Wu on AliExpress. Highly recommend working with him. Great seller.
2. The lights are controlled by an F16V3 lighting controller (www.pixelcontroller.com)
3. The sequence is scheduled from, and runs off of a Raspberry Pi (www.falconchris...)
4. The sequence is created in a program called xLights (xlights.org)
Q: Aren't you afraid of Disney suing you?
A: No. KZbin instantly recognized that the song was owned by someone other than me and made sure I couldn't monetize it. Any ads that run on it are paying them, not me. Hopefully they aren't so dense as to sue me for the free publicity.
