This is my favorite pitch meeting he's ever done. He had his character go on a side quest to comment on The Madalorian's reliance on side quests. But even if you don't want to read it that way, it's just hilarious in its own right. It brings in more of the style of his Ryan George channel, which has a slightly different tone than the Pitch Meeting channel.

The Baby Yoda merch was slow to arrive due to holding back any prototyping so the first episode with Grogu would be a total surprise. Prototyping has to be done months in advance and it's the way leaks are started. They immediately began prototyping new toys after the first episode but it pushed their arrival months. So Disney likely lost tons of money purely to hide the Baby Yoda surprise. Disney knew they were going to lose a ton of money early, but knew the impact it would make for the series.

Yes, what you said resonates with me loudly. And it started way back with all the Marvel movies. They spend time introducing new characters and basically promoting upcoming movies than flushing well the actual movie. All this time, I thought the problem was with Marvel studios but now I understand that it's Disney the problem.

I don’t know if you guys remember when it first came out and there was no Baby Yoda merch, Etsy sellers were creating all sorts of things for a solid few months before Disney sent out cease and desists and started their own Baby Yoda merchandising. I think that’s what the ending article relates to.

I've got Grogu figures and plushies of different sizes, socks, a baseball cap. I had a t-shirt but I can't find it. I reckon my Sister nicked it. There was a massive dry spell before the merch started dropping though, and I think it only added to people's desire for the stuff. In terms of leaks, hasbro and other toy-manufacturers are frequently responsible for spoilers in shows and films, because prototypes of the figures get leaked very early on. Even when they don't leak, toy-companies put up pre-orders, or stores like walmart leak listings for upcoming products many months, sometimes over a year, in advance. I think, in the end, Disney made the right choice.

I don't watch Star Wars, but I can tell you that the first episode of Netflix's Daredevil has more story, character and setting establishment, and a sense of fulfillment, than the whole of Secret Invasion. It's like you can feel that people have cared about this project, and have worked hard to make it the best it can be with whatever means they were provided. Which is very sad, since Fury and Hill are two of my favorite MCU characters.

I definitely agree with what you said about Disney+ shows, specially the ones related to Star Wars. I still haven't finished the Mandalorian season 2, even if I liked what I've seen so far. As it's the same formula but not in a completely satisfying way (unlike most Marvel MCU stuff that is similar, BUT satisfying). It's also the same formula Star Wars has been following since the beginning (or at least from what I remember of the first 2 trilogies). It's enjoyable if you watch one movie every couple of years, but it gets tiresome if you watch that stuff more often. At least for me. It's like the movies from phase 1 of the MCU. Except for Avengers and Captain America, the rest of them I only watched them once (and I fell asleep on 2 of them).

For how Disney didn't make Baby Yoda Merch, I think Jon Favreau was to "blame" (or more like praised) for it. Coming from Marvel (actually, being the one who kickstarted the whole franchise), he knew by firsthand experience that toys merch leaks are the one surefire way to leak anything and any surprise guest that's gonna appear in your show or movie. So I'm fairly sure he's the one that ordered 66 on the baby yoda merch and killed it in the egg before it became a potential leak. He really wanted the world to be taken by storm by the reveal of the first episode, and he was totally right ! Without this surprise reveal, I feel like the Mandalorian would not have half the instant cult classic status it has gotten when it came out. Also, the series was not necessarily bracing for impact to become such an instant cult classic. Don't forget that when it came out, people were still reeling from the impact of the Last Jedi, and by that time, half the fandom had already quit star Wars altogether, their passions extinguished by the horrid one-two punches that were Force Awakens and Last Jedi (and ho boy, they were in a wild ride with the incoming Rise of Skywalker), so a lot of people had completely lost hope on Disney Star Wars at that point. Besides, Mandalorian was "just" a Disney+ series, a little side project that Kathleen Kennedy didn't even look too much at, since she was so busy with her "Force is Female" trilogy, so there were not even that much marketing going into it. And all these conditions made it quite a tall order for Mandalorian to pull off such a miracle. But as we know, the rest is history. And afterwards, there was an interesting side effect with the fact they didn't prepare any merch about baby Yoda : After the instant cult classic reveal, EVERYBODY in the WORLD was craving some Baby Yoda toys... and there were none in sight ! Which made people craving for it even more and created such a massive demand that wouldn't be quenched for years to come ! So in the end, sure, it might have cost Disney a few millions for the first year, but I believe they already waaay more than made up for it already by now and for the years if not decades to come. I wouldn't be surprised if for these past 2 years, baby yodas merchs have been selling more than Mickey merch.

I don't think Disney mini-series are 'just candy'. Look at Wandavision. With 8 episodes it told a story literally about sitcom tv whilst also exploring grief. A film could not do that. And you have to remember the negative reception Netflix series got for being too drawn out and that was with 13 episodes a season. Agents of Shield did 24 a season and 20 of those sucked! That's why Im looking forward to She-Hulk; its an 8 episode law procedural rather than a cheap movie split into 6 parts (Falcon and the Winter Soldier). I want the shows to celebrate the medium and ground the movies.

Yes, Disney deliberately held back on telling toy companies about Baby Yoda so that it wouldn’t leak. That being said, when MANDALORIAN came out it took the companies a while to create the toy concepts, toy ideas, approvals and produce the toys which is why most of the toys came out right before season 2

In defense of SW and Marvel fans who dislike several of the recent movies and TV shows ... they complain of poor plots with inferior writing, bait-and-switch tricks by Disney and the disrespect paid to beloved characters. Politics has nothing to do with their complaints - but it appears to have everything to do with Disney's programming choices.

The show at times is kinda dragging, like they ran out of stories so they stole some ideas for the episodes from other shows, for example the episode where Mando, Gina and baby Yoda ran to a remote village and hired by the villagers to protect their village is the similar idea like the movie "Seven Samurai" by Akira Kurosawa, also the episode where Mando met a marhshall wearing a Mandalorian armor but he had to help the marshall kill a giant worm to get the armor back, is like the movie "Tremor".
