Umi I live in Miami Fl and have 300 mango and avocado trees on my 1/2 acre corner lot with a house and a swimming pool on the lot too. Everything is super healthy and perfect. If I told you how close some of my trees are to each other you would say I’m crazy. I keep most trees at 6’-8’ after each crop is taken. I am not going to give my trees nitrogen anymore to shut down vegetative growth. You should become obsessed with tipping every chance you get during the growing season after the harvest. Enjoy your bounties!!!

It looks like between the first tipping and the second tipping the tree flushed twice. If you had tipped every flush early on you could have doubled the number of branches in your canopy. This might have reduced the apical dominance and slowed down vertical growth.
@umisfarm9419
@umisfarm9419 5 жыл бұрын
you are right. some was done intentionally in order to create more space and some I just didn't have the time and missed the flush. I still have a lot to learn.

Some types of trees become less productive if not allowed to grow to their preferred height. That's what I hear from some farmers anyway

They are nearly 4 years. I top the tree at hip high or a little less. So the fruit is off the ground. You will do 3 to 4 rounds of pruning in year 1

Thank you so much for sharing. I enjoyed it tremendously, high quality too. I'm also learning UHD farming after watching videos like yours. I have planted 360 mango trees that are less than 1 year old, planted 3 m x 3 m apart. I hope you can indulge me by answering questions about watering and weed control. How do you water your trees if there's not enough from rain?. How do you control weeds? I have sprayed with glyphosate, but the weeds keep coming back, and I plan to do another round of spraying soon. Do you use drip irrigation? Will you stop watering the trees after they reach a certain age and height? How often do you fertilize and what kind fertilizer and how much? Thanks again.

Hey man lovely mango plantation you have! 😍 I was wondering how you applied to SARE to get the grant. Did you say that this orchard would be used for education and stuff like that because I want to start a small mango farm but I don’t have the money and I’m 16 years old. Could you please help me out sir? Thank a lot

its been 4 years. do you have any regrets? ie will you change anything to density if you able to go back in time?
@umisfarm9419
@umisfarm9419 6 ай бұрын
No regrets because it was a trial and I didn't know what the outcomes would be. I do think my trial was too dense, which creates problems with getting a tractor between the rows and needing more fungicides to deal with powdery mildew and anthracnose. So, I widened out the space between rows to allow more sunlight and airflow. I learned a lot from this project

What number Fertilizer do you use for your mango trees during the first 2 years ???
@umisfarm9419
@umisfarm9419 Жыл бұрын
Hard to answer without a soil and tissue analysis. 8-8-8 is a good basic fertilizer, but I mostly apply minerals rather than blends. I use Calcium + Boron before flowering, 0-0-16 after fruit set. 4-10-40 after harvest pruning and 1 round of micronutrients

I have many varieties but the main ones are Rapoza(Hawaii), Keitt(Florida), white pirie(India), and Nom doc mai(Thai). Hawaii are subtropical islands and mangoes are subtropical fruits so very compatible. Spain is out of the tropics so not compatible. But you can grow in greenhouse or in pots successfully see how Japan does it. Not much is known about rootstock effect on mangoes. I use what we call Common mango, it is a small polyembrionic type that doesn't have a name. All tropical regions have mangoes maybe Africa or India is closer to your location
