i decided to record some glitched female symbol cries
this is one of my favorite glitches because it fucks up the audio

When an encounter with this or any other "glitch" pokemon occurs, the reason everything destroys itself is because of the sprite. The game has a decompression algorithm that loads the pokemon sprites and scales them. Of course, in a normal battle its loading the correct data. When you battle a glitch pokemon, the decompressor uses a start trigger and a start trigger at certain bytes. This means the sprite is technically a large chunk of the rom.being displayed on screen, and the rom is huge. Thats why it take so long for the game to load the battle, the sprite is literaly the same size as the main game code. The decompressor keeps going until it hits an end trigger for the sound driver, and it fucks up the sound. Also your hall of fame stuff is gone because the decompressor goes over that to.

Basically there's an algorithm of take value at x memory address → start reading memory beginning from the address designated by that value → process that data with a whole lot more of memory jumping Depending on what value is at that first x memory address the decompression algorithms for sprites and sounds can take wild paths through random sections of memory, some being game data that's supposed to be static like pokemon species and some being dynamic memory like current time, current contents of graphical buffers, etc. (That's how you get sprites that are different every time, like female symbol's.) The sections of memory designated to hold data during sprite decompression (decompression buffers) are just before Hall of Fame data, meaning that if what it tries to decompress results in an abnormally large sprite, it will write garbage not only there but also further into the HoF data, corrupting it. This isn't necessary though - sometimes the data just happens to specify a correct size, meaning that the game still reads garbage, writes it to the buffers and displays a nonsense sprite, but no memory outside gets corrupted and the HoF survives.

For anyone who cares, the reason it takes a while to start the battle is because of the gameboy/emulator/whatever trying to load a big file. The weird sounds are a corrupted version of a normal cry or sound (at least I think so).

It won't necessarily be because of a large file, but more to do with the fact that it isn't programmed to respond to this "Pokémon", so it takes the game a moment to process what to do and just sort of mashes a bunch of stuff together and hopes for the best, just so it can somewhat perform the task it was given. If it was due to file size, then all of the Pokémon would react this way, glitch or not.

The technical reason for the battle taking long to load, is because the sprite decompression routine is reading garbage data from memory, which can take a really long time to decode. This will happen on real hardware, and emulators don't read large files from disk, only from the really small ROM image they have loaded into RAM.

Encounters with her are a good reminder pf how music in games work It's not audio files that just play wjen triggered likw in games now Rather in the Gameboy it was 3 or 4 tracks playing music Think it as isnturments that would play the sounds or soundtracks whenever needed This is why the music can glitch so bad and be so disjointed, it's not one single thing playing, but rather different "insturments" being played wrong by the game

Once I’ve actually tried to start the game with this glitchmon and I’ve noticed something Basically every fight is replaced with a Female Symbol wild encounter, even if it’s a trainer battle. And yea what happened was that I fought Blue with my Pikachu. I’ve lost bc Female Symbol kept on critting. Then tho, when Blue won, it’s winning trainer sprite got replaced by a square of glitched red and yellow pixels while saying ‘Am I great or what’ (that gave me the dang willies) And then, as a cherry on top, his overworld sprite changed into another random sprite (in my case the Surf sprite), and Red’s overworld sprite got aligned a bit more in the right than it should have Nice

Yeah, Gen 1 glitches can be a little spooky if you don’t know what you’re expecting. A good one and one that thankfully isn’t easy to pull off has to be the firey red hell map since from what I understand it’s a Japanese exclusive issue and does require some other glitches to be set up beforehand but the results are pretty creepy nontheless

that is typically because on emulators, it crashes the entire emulator, not just the game itself. these unknown opcodes are also accompanied with the most obnoxious repeating 2 or 3 notes ever, and just fixing it all is a hassle in general. crashes just, crash, usually nicely, and with maybe one long note. except the gba crash sound. that's worse.

Yes there is a way to encounter it without cheats. Like most Glitch Pokémon in Yellow, these encounters require the Mew Glitch and a Pokémon with a certain Special Stat value. In ♀ .‘s, you need a Pokémon with a special stat of 193 or by trading another glitch Pokémon from RB known as ゥ (C1)
