I first started 'The Many Faces of Cashel' project in 2014. The aim of the project was to collect old photos of people and place around Cashel. Later I started making portraits of the older generation of people of the town and documenting their life stories and memories. During 'Lockdown' I've gone over the audio recordings (over 100 hours). In this first episode I've concentrated on early childhood memories and school days. This episode is made using the voices of 22 people. Sadly, 11 of those are no longer with us. For the families of those people I hope it will bring them joy to hear the voices of their loved ones, but I'm also aware it will stir up emotions of sadness and loss. I hope I have done this in a way of sensitivity and with care.
Nothing in this movie is meant to offend or hurt people. Throughout there are nicknames used, that is only to identify and not to belittle people. I hope it will be a record of a century of memories and stories that would have otherwise been lost. I hope it will last long after all of us who watch it for the first time today and will stand as a document of those times for the child who is not yet born.
I hope to upload parts two and three in the coming weeks.
