I want to thank you, MotoMan, for featuring a beautiful spec on the Rolls Royce Spectre. That paint color with the contrasting coachline is quite elegant. Now I realize that Rolls Royce saw their first EV as an opportunity to make a definitive automotive statement, "more than just electric . . . it's a Rolls Royce".

Great points of thought, anytime you make people think you make things better or at least start the conversation! The Fact that BMW at least is thinking about long term supply chain issues speaks volumes about their management. We are still in a supply chain disaster four years into covid with little progress being made!

The new depreciation king has entered the ring. I was shocked at how much my Taycan lost in value - this car will lose a HOUSE in value in a couple years. Good luck RR...

RR is actually expecting residuals of the Spectre to be relatively high. The 2.5 year waitlist helps with that. Years down the line it's likely that the Spectre's battery capacity will have degraded less than that of other EVs due to how few miles will likely be put on a Spectre.

I have been trying for a few minutes to make a reasonable case for the price of the umbrellav but even as someone who works in brand marketing I have not been able to figure out a sentence that wouldn't be laughed at 🤣 EDIT: The best I can come up with is that RR have to charge this much so that their customers don't feel like they got a cheap umbrella and those customers get to have the fun of top trumping their billionaire friends for the most expensive umbrella. If I could afford one I would think nothing up upgrading to the high end umbrella but for the rest of us that don't like on a giant yacht powered by caviar it's comical.

Car enthusiasts have the ability to understand so many different complex concepts. From the difference between horsepower and torque, octane, the difference between a spark ignition engine and a compression ignition engine, thermal efficiency, the difference between a turbo and a supercharger, among so many other things. But when it comes to electric vehicles, the bad-faith questions about the ability of the grid to meet the demand from EVs, the emissions of EVs from charging and how it compares to the emissions of a gas/diesel/or hybrid. Or the emissions footprint of making an EV compared to a ICE car. The mineral argument isn't completely irrelevant, but it's so stupid, I think it's more of an attempt to gaslight than be serious. Don't get me wrong. It's sad there's a profit motive for dirtbag people in the DRC who force children to work in 'artisanal ' mines. But why is cobalt a problem when talking about cobalt in the context of EVs, but not in the context of oil refining? The use of cobalt for desulfurization is something that has been done since the 1920s and 1930s. Only now, when EVs are popular, it's an issue. It's a really great squirrel to point at if you don't like EVs. I already said car enthusiasts understand *so many* complex concepts, but when it comes to the repeated open-ended questions about "where does the power come from, and how does an EV compare to an ICE car on an emissions basis?" these questions are asked as if they can't look it up themselves. And when faced with that evidence (like what the Union of Concerned Scientists has collated specifically to grid emissions and EV charging) it's quickly dismissed based on absolutely no evidence of bias. To make things even more frustrating, people in the car community 'still' peddle hydrogen like it's a serious solution, despite the obvious fact 99% of commercially-available hydrogen is from natural gas, or sometimes coal. Then they defensively say, "oh yeah but, what about green hydrogen?" It's so f*cking defeating. When you have grown-ass men saying embarrassing shit like that, despite the fact green hydrogen take 50 to 55 kWh per kg to produce at room temperature, and a Mirai holds 5 kg to go 647 km. Can you begin to understand how this hold conversation comes off like gaslighting when an Ioniq 5 has a battery capacity of 77.4 kWh and goes 488 km on a full charge?

The most valuable commodity in the world and the only one you can't buy is time. That's why wealthy people fly private jets. I can't picture a sane, wealthy Rolls-Royce owner wasting time detouring to find a charger, then locating a second functioning charger and wasting his time at the side of the road.
@markcoopers1930
@markcoopers1930 2 ай бұрын
They'd never have to. Like you said, their drivers will have the owners flown anywhere thats beyond the range of a gas tank. Their drivers don't even risk stopping at gas stations in the Phantom while the owners are in the vehicle, even that inconvenience is too much. So the EV should work fine.
@MuffinMoney
@MuffinMoney 2 ай бұрын
I would certainly go with the Wraith/Dawn if I had the choice. I feel that the Spectre would be the worst car (really any electric car) to keep mechanically going for 10-15 or even 20 years. In a gas car, whether a 12-cylinder or a 4-cylinder, there is always a way to fix something if it breaks and for a reasonable cost. Surely people paying $500k+ will swap out their cars in less than 5 years, but I just don't see an ALL electric vehicle maintaining it's life as well as ICE cars, even into the future...
