Thank you so much for the video. When visiting Finnish schools, banana tree is always a simple story that helps me embedding many topics into one. 8 out of 10 students are not quite sure what tree is it when I show the photo and the most popular guess would be the ‘palm tree’. Fun facts for the kids: each banana tree produces banana fruits only once. But almost all parts of a banana tree can be used for so many purposes. Banana leaves are good to replace plates when eating, a good wrapper not just for cooked food, during my childhood, it was very common for banana leaves to be used to wrap fish in the market. From the stem we can get rope, banana peel is edible, curry, subzi, and even to substitute minced meat to make meatball too, also pulled beef. Part of my childhood is to use banana leaves as the umbrella. We can reduce the usage of plastic significantly by utilising banana trees. Greetings from Northern Finland.

Mam, please, tell me what is called banana root? Is it the portion remaining under the ground or the finger like parts existing just above the ground?

Can we cook regular banana stem which mean the banana tree does not bear flower or fruit; for decoration. Please advise.

No, if it is not a real banana plant I would not use the stem.
